  • Hello! I hope you're doing great!
    (Why did I say “PS4” so weird??)
    Wow, this one was a blast from the past. I used to play this game all the time when I was a kid like I'm sure a lot of you did. What I'm actually kind of surprised by that I didn't mention in the video is that the 64 version didn't have any kind of multiplayer option whatsoever... I could've sworn that I would play against my friends in this game all the time! It's pretty awesome that it has it now though. Were you excited about this game at all? Out of all the remakes and re-releases that have been coming out lately, this one was definitely at the top of my list. Battle for Bikini Bottom and Destroy All Humans! are right up there too though... What do you all think of this trend in the video game world of the remakes and re-releases? There are some that I'm definitely excited about, but I would always prefer to get new games rather than just reliving the past. But I guess that's the trend everywhere nowadays. If you got this game, or maybe still possibly play the original, I'd love to talk to you about it! Where does this rank for you in all the Star Wars games? You think anything can ever top KOTOR?
    Thank you so much for watching!

    I'm really happy to see childhood favorites from my past like this one come to modern day consoles. Like you, I still own my N64 and have a copy of Racer for it but I would still get a PS4 version. Though I haven't played the remaster yet I can already tell you one really important improvement it will have and that's framerate. I'll always love my N64 version but when the game is played in 480i mode with an expansion pack it tends to have some very noticeable slowdown on more graphically intense tracks. It's bad enough that it can ruin races. You can rectify this by switching it to 240p mode to make it run much smoother but then the visuals take a complete nosedive as a result. The Dreamcast version doesn't have any of these issues but those copies are harder to find and it can be difficult for the average gamer to hook up a Dreamcast properly with a high quality video setup. The PS4 and Switch won't have that issue as they're part of the modern age so everyone wins there, lol.

    • @ellyssl
      @ellyssl  3 года назад +1

      I never had a Dreamcast so I would love to get to try it on there someday but I don’t know where I would ever find one lol. But yeah I agree, even though it is awesome to play it on the 64 like I always did, you can’t really beat the remaster with the better framerate and visuals. There’s a part of me that really loves seeing the childhood favorites coming back and a part of me that wishes they would make new stuff, but I guess you just have to accept whatever it is and hope that they did a good job with it and luckily this one was done well! Thanks for watching 🙂

    I remember playing this on the N64 but I never could beat the game so I just kinda screwed around as the wolf guy lmfao. Then when it finally was released I played it on switch and beat it, the stable fps and clearer pics really helped with the more challenging maps and esp the maps where you have to turn on a dime 😅😅 man I love this game and wish there was like 100 more maps to do.
    Also I think it's cool the Inferno is the very last map you do and it has duel of the fates playing. Epic as all hell
    Ps: Anakin's podracer ALL the way 😎

      That game felt “old school” difficult! I can’t wait to play it again. That lagged also costed me many races.

    It's so weird to see the N64 version next to the PS4 version, since in my memories the former looks exactly like the latter. Nostalgia's a strange and powerful thing, isn't it.

    I think the big difference to the N64 version is because this is likely based on the PC version and then upscaled, while the N64 version likely was a scaled down version of the PC game.

    This game is the only reason I never sold my N64. Still have it. So I won’t be buying this, but good review! The N64 version would look far better if you had the console hooked up via S-video on an original CRT Television. It looks that way because the game was original developed for the older tech, which why the picture is stretched out and the colors are all bled together. Glad to see this release for younger gamers to enjoy as well!

    did they fix how there is limited amount of money in the entire game? (you only earn money by winning the race for the first time so you better always get 1st place the first time you pass). I remembered how i ran out of money to fix my part and i can't upgrade parts either as there are no way to win anymore of them. I stuck at the swamp planets where you have to make multiple bank turns. Those turns somehow also burned my pod. I didn't win after the second time and i need to repair my part or i stand no chance at a retry ... no money ... so start over? ... no thx.

    Guys listen! Please. I am one of the longest running players of this game. Benn playing it off and on frequently most my life. I got it for 64 when it came out, and I'm 32 now. My name is Timothy. I use to rent this game fro. The video store and beat it multiple times before I had enough money to buy it. No offense to cars, but I'm just a Pod Racer for life. I love The intense speed, an average 400kph. And if you have a second player sitting there waiting for you to pass, you really do see them fly by. So amazing! Pods can go into such radical terrain. The game is not just a bunch of raced, it's an adventure. But everyone, I want to state for the record FoR ReAl! The Nintendo 64 version of this game is superior to This new one. There is something about the druving.....driving...... ItS JuSt EasIer.... they dumbed it down, and I did side by side comparisons. They changed the drift effect in some manner. In the N64 version if you hold down Z(drift) you can postion your Pod in more of a diagonal slingshot angle. And it feels more satisfying to me that way. The original is way harder, and it's not the frame rate. It runs 90% fine basically and you know what?, you can go into the setting and turn the resolution down and Turn Lense Flare off if you think it's running slow; but it runs more than well enough. This new PS4 version did a disgraceful job and trying to revive the game. The weather effects are terrible, Howler Gorge ect. have a sad attempt at the N64 comparison in the N64 version the snow flakes get all long and steaky to show how fast your going. And Baroo Coast ect. There's rain coming down on you in powerful streaks, the PS4 version didn't even try...... there's nothing..... the beeping sound effect when you can no longer select characters/menus left and right has been changed, the Scrappers Run ect. Tracks they changed the railing and made there own, they changed alot of the floor grating in that stage. If you look at the original it wasn't grating in a screen pattern, they were originally long metal dark brown like bars that went on and on. And they damaged the atmosphere of the game by adding in Star Wars soundtracks that were not originally in the game by the way.. but they play during every lap.. on N64 you get the best of both worlds. The first 2 laps or 4 laps if your playing in other modes, you get no music at all, that way you can hear all the gears, and machinery and nature sounds that you pilot into in all the different environments. How am I suppose to hear the creaking canyon walls Andobi Mountan Run if the music is playing on every lap? But I think most importantly is how skillful and fun can the game be? The N64 wins in this case. If you want to take good credit at being good at Star Wars Episode I Racer in the case of these 2 versions; N64 for sure. It's just so much harder to pull everything off, but so much more satisfy because any series of corners you pull off when boosting feels like so much more of an accomplishment. And to me, it actually feels like the game is more fast paste with the N64. Probably a combination of the graphics. You do need to play the game on an old Ray Tube TV to play it to it's truest greatness. I'll always have a Raytube in my life somewhere. If my current ones ever break, I'll have backups, you better belive it. =] The ones that are a box shape with a square screen. Those TVs are Shogun, King, Arbiter, and top everything for Console of Xbox 360 generation and below, using the Red, White, and Yellow cables. Believe it or not, but for all these year until perhaps super recently, the old Ray Tube box TVs have superior refresh rates. Basically on those TV, the time it takes for the signal from you pressing the buttons/sticks ect, to travel down the controller cord, get processed by the console, then that information getting sent to the TV to Display it; is faster. The fastest. All your actions are displayed in real time more, and less in the past. If you compete with someonene in Halo, Call of Duty ect. With a Ray Tube TV, you will have an advantage. But yeah, the N64 version is actually better and best if you play it and on a Raytube. Pod Racer 64 takes alot more skill needed to win, better esthetics, Just basically better everything. Old games are meant to be played on Ray Tubes \ because that's what they were designed for /. I recommend the N64 version for sure.. I'm Mars Guo for life =)
    I love his look and energy, I love The look of his Pod and how it handles. And I love his long boost time for sure. Got to go fast!!!! =] He's just my calling in that game. to me, the PS4 ect. Had there chance at making it better in some kind of strong lightvif they gave it online multi-player but nope...... Couldn't even be bothered with that. So there's no new feature. Nintendo 64 already has 2 player. It's superior for sure. I mean hey, it should be. It's older and more original after all.
    Good night everyone. And have a great happy new year also for sure. =]
    Take care my fellow racing friends.

    At 3:30 you said "I was expecting less because it's a game from the last century".
    I'd say it is the other way round. Games from the last century and even decade are the games that were still good and offered quality over this money whoring bs that gets produced today lol

    • @ellyssl
      @ellyssl  3 года назад +1

      That is a really great point. I still give modern games the benefit of the doubt because there’s been some amazing ones, but yeah it’s really sad to see how much it became about the money this past decade. I don’t expect it to happen, but I really hope that changes sometime soon.

    • @el_Cabi

      @@ellyssl agreed, I did give them the benefit of the doubt until recently with Cyberpunk. For me that was the nail on the coffin and now I won't buy a game at release ever again. Too many times companies have let the consumers down

    • @ellyssl
      @ellyssl  3 года назад +2

      That’s completely fair. Everything that happened with Cyberpunk was a nightmare. And with games dropping in price a month or two and sometimes even weeks after being released, it doesn’t really make too much sense to buy them the second that it’s available
