You are one of the most knowledgeable skincare formulator I have seen on RUclips. I binge watch your videos. I have just started my started my skin care brand and I wish I could do your course but I don't have the budget now.
Also I wonder you show certain branded ingredients to add in your product which are not available in India. Will your course mention location specific substitutes?

Hello Belinda! Thanks for another great video :)
I get a bit confused with the term synthetic.
Does it mean lab modified with petrochemical feedstocks or not necessarily? What is the synthetic component made up of?
    Thanks a lot in advance!
    Abi

Its easier to assume synthetics are related to ingredients derived from petrochemical feed stocks because personal care ingredients are generated from them. However, I would classified synthetic as any ingredient that is not 100% derived from Nature. It gets more complicated when an ingredient derived from Nature (like plant, animal or microbial) and further treated or extracted chemically. Like Avocado extracted with Propylene glycol (from petrochemical source) as solvent - this we would classify as Naturally-derived. Lastly, some ingredients are nature occurring but they can be manufactured using only synthetic means. Though their molecular structure is identical to their natural forms, they are purely synthetic due to their origin. I think break down the word synthetic along this line may bring clarity and avoid confusions.

@@IsaacAdjeiSafo Thank you so much for your detailed response! Now I understand more clearly the distinction :)
I wish more distinction was made between ingredients made using petrochemical solvents + biodegradability of an ingredient as opposed to just focusing on synthetic or not synthetic discourse which frankly does not mean much imo....
