It's crazy how the ending is so freaking brutal that I felt bad for the villain, when I shouldn't. It was just how Howard was whimpering as he dies, normally the villain dies being a defiant or disrespectful. But it made sense that Howard was whimpering, realizing that he killed his best friend and wife. Great movie.
Marvel's Punisher character is based on the fictional character, Mack Bolan, the Executioner, a series of novels that began in 1969. He's a Vietnam veteran who winds up in a war with the Mafia. So the original veers a little more in the direction of Rambo, while the Marvel adaptation veers a little more toward Batman.
The extended version is even better. it shows a little of his time in the armed forces, and it reveals who sold him out. Also a lot of people don't seem to notice the person he stabs through the mouth is the same one that kept him from getting to his family.
The Punisher is my favorite Marvel character and besides John Bertal did a great job, this one with Thomas Jane is unstopable! Thomas Jane is the best Punisher ever!
Thomas Jane gives an amazing performance in The Mist. Well worth checking out. The Punisher was a Spider-Man villain when first appeared in the mid-70s and by the 80s became an anti-hero. His original orgin was he was on a picnic with his wife and 2 young children and they witnessed a mob hit. The mob killed his family and thought killed him. The Garth Ennis Punisher story Welcome Back Frank was a major influence on this film. Frank's neighbors and the Russian are from that.
He wasn't really a Spider-man "villain". He was an adversary to Spider-man because he was convinced by public perception and was fooled by The Jackal into hunting him because he was convinced he was a dangerous, super human, mutant criminal. But after fighting him a few times he saw that Spider-man was actually a hero. That's where Marvel missed a big opportunity in the last Spider-man movie. When everyone saw Peter Parker as a bad guy for killing Mysterio they could have used part of the story of Punisher's original appearance to debut Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle in the MCU the same way they debuted Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock.
@clbaker8356 - there is a lot of good actors or cameo there, in that movie (The Punisher): - The guitar player in the diner, that's Mark Collie - a professional country music singer - the guy with piercing in his lips = Ben Foster, from the classic Pandorum movie, or The Mechanic. - and one of the neighbours - Rebeca Romijn - the original Mystique from Marvel X-Men movies, or even older one Femme Fatale (or even the entertaining The Librarians series)
Yeah I've loved this one since I first saw it as a kid. The writing is actually quite good, and it's got a great mix of pulp, humor, cheese, action, and straight-up serious drama.
John Travolta played Howard Saint, Ben Foster played Spacker Dave, Rebecca Romijn played Joan who also played Mystique in the X-Men movies, Roy Scheider play Frank Castle Sr who played Brody on Jaws
@@Azalin4savioR I just finished watching Dos Cavazos react to The Punisher. That was a real knife Thomas Jane stabbed him with. John Wick also gave him the night off.
One of my favorite movies. Fun Fact: When she stitches Frank up the actress accidently went to deep and stitched his actual skin instead of the prosthetic so his pained reactions are real.
To recite on of the coments from one of the videos with Punisher: "Punisher is the only character who doesn't have a active villain because he killed his counter part long back." This is why i love this guy: he don't have any powers or gadgets to deal with bad guys in non-lethal way, so he just have to use traditional human method - violence. He easy to sympathize then other heros due to they godly-like powers to do all peacfully unlike humans who had rock and stick from the beginning. He's not a fully good guy since killing is still bad, but he do what other super-heroes can't: sacrafice public image over justice.
I just want to take the time to appreciate and thank Kacee for pronouncing decal right. I know soooooo many people who say "Deckle" and it's like "No, it's D-Cal. Say it right!" so, thank you Kacee.
In the comics there are many punished story's that are just too brutal to make it to movie form, speaking of ghost rider frank castle is immune to the penance stare, cause really don't feel bad for anything he's ever done.
@@KillbotSw Oh there is. Put it this way, Garth Ennis, the guy who made The Boys, wrote some Punisher runs for Marvel. In one of them, a mobster digs up Frank's dead wife and child and pisses on them. Frank responds by drugging the man, shooting him in the gut and leaving him in the woods to suffer. This mobster was also sexually abused by his aunt, who was also a mobster.
In the comics frank was at a picknic with his family and was cought in a mob crossfire but this origin is so much better and really sets in Frank's find set
That picnic origin hit alot harder because it was a random act of violence. People do get caught in the cross fire of gang shootings and criminal behavior most of the time. Stray bullets has taken lots of lives over the years.
Always thought Tom Jane's Punisher was terribly underrated, it was a pretty faithful interpretation of the character and a good film. Recommend looking the short film Dirty Laundry that's supposed to be a follow-up to this film it's actually on RUclips.
Thomas Jane was originally considered for Rick Grimes in the walking dead, so we would've had 2 Punishers in the same zombie killing show (also RIP to Mr sunny disposition aka comedian John Pinette)
It’s funny really how the Punisher hates the police cause in the comics they didn’t do anything to help avenge his family yet alot of people use HIS symbol to support the police
Aside from the john wick films this is my favorite revenge plot. The story telling in this movie is top notch. Vastly underrated movie. And hes a great lead in yhe mist. 2 of the most tragic stories in movies and he played them so well. I alwaye recommend this to people who like the mcu before they took on darker tones. This is how i found your channel! Glad to be here!
Love this movie! This is actually the second film adaptation of the comic book character. The first was Dolph Lungdren in the 1989 version of the same name. Lindgren plays a New York police officer, Frank Castle, trying to bring down a mob boss corrupting his precinct but when he gets too close, they kill his wife and kid with a car bomb. Castle spends years to exact his revenge against those responsible The third adaptation was played by Ray Stevenson in Punisher War Zone in 2008. It was intended to be a sequel to the first film, but it was cancelled due to the poor box office performance of Thomas Jane's Punisher. The fourth iteration of the character was Netflix's Punisher, played by Jon Bernthal.
They already thought this one was brutal, but Punisher War Zone is on a whole nother level...like really uncomfortably brutal. It was kind of a guilty pleasure movie for me, didn't think it was bad at all really but definetly not for everyone
The Jolly fella was John Pinette, he was on Broadway for about 10 years hence the singing, super funny Stand-up comic and all around amazing human being. RIP ❤
The curved object Saint's other son picked up that said Front towards enemy was not a bomb, but a military grade Claymore Antipersonnel Mine. Even more interesting is that there is a story going around that the actor that played The Russian actually got stabbed by the real butterfly knife during the fight scene. They forgot to use the prop knife. The other son could not throw the mine at The Punisher because the trip wire was attached to the cord over his head. When the tripwire is moved, it goes off..
52:18 "that was his dads gun" this was one of my favorite movies as a kid and still got a soft spot for it seen it over 20 times and I never made that connection lol
Fun fact: The red and white striped shirt the Russian is wearing was typically associated with former members of Soviet Spetsnaz groups. The red indicates dishonorable discharge, usually for killing a superior officer.
@@hitmanmonaghan6633The Blue and white originated with Russian Navy, but was later adapted into a bunch of different Russian military, generally associated with standard service with honorable discharge.
The bit where thomas jane gets thrown through the wall and outside his apartment (that you didn't show, boo!) was a stunt he did himself and in the making of one of the movie production staff says he'd never seen someone go through a wall this hard in his career
You should watch the Punisher fan film Dirty Laundry. It's made by Thomas Jane, the guy who played the Punisher in this movie. He made Dirty Laundry because THAT was his vision for what the ovie he signed up for was supposed to be.
Unlike current day Marvel movies who rely very heavily on CGI, this movie used as many pratical effects as possible. Also the DVD of this movie came with a small comic that had a conversation between Punisher and his father. Father: You swam to the north island are you crazy? What about sharks? Frank: Dad you know we never had trouble like that in these waters before. Father: Yeah! You know where I heard that before right?
Fun fact about the fight scene with "The Russian"... the balisong he stabbed into Waldo's chest was supposed to be a prop knife, but he had the wrong one. Thomas Jane actually stabbed the guy, and he just kept going with the scene like nothing happened. The blood on his shirt is very real.
(At 8:30) Oh, he's going to do more than just go after Frank Castle. He's going to make this personal. And what better way to make this personal, than to take EVERYTHING he loves away from him. In this case "Family"
I seen this movie back in theaters 2004 at least 27 time's and was lucky enough to Meet Thomas Jane some years ago super awesome guy I got a hold of The Skull Vest from a auction back in the day, 😂 Love This movie 🤘 Great reaction
Fun fact about that fight: The part where Thomas Jane stabbed Kevin Nash was actually real. Obviously, in most movies, they use fake knives or digital effects to make a stab look real, but in this case, they forgot to switch out the props between takes, and Kevin got stabbed with a real knife. They kept it in the movie because both actor's genuine reactions made the scene better.
I love Jane's punisher. His facial expression was just perfect. He had that emotionally dead look in his eyes whenever you see him. His portrayal was also great. I feel like he's exactly what punisher would be like if he's real.
When I saw this movie, I thought Thomas Jane was really good as The Punisher... they announced John Bernthal as The Punisher my thought: "Oh, good call" And when I saw him play as Punisher my thoughts: "He freaking nailed it! OMG He was just a brute force and someone who you don't want to mess around with." Like The Punisher. lol Great reaction. :)
39:24 you are seeing a man actually stabbed in the collarbone. There was a mix up with props and a real butterfly knife was accidentally handed to the highlander and then he unknowingly stabbed him. Waldo was such a pro he didn’t even flinch and carried on with the scene. Respect Ps: couldn’t remember the actors names, sorry. But Waldo was the heavyweight champion for awhile!
Any man who loses his family he loves will change him, but for it to be the entire family line from him and his wife is very extreme and definitely sells the point that he lost more than family he lost his sanity.
Punisher warzone starring Ray Stevenson is a Punisher movie in-line with the awesome and uber violent punisher max comic series. It's not an origin story either which I prefer especially when you're making a stand-alone movie. The Punisher is a relentless, merciless vigilante that just won't die. No superpowers here but his will is undeniable.
@@Nimzzeee I know. It's ironic. The only thing I can say about Dolph is that he didn't say much and the movie itself was so bad that it became entertaining to watch. War Zone and Stevenson, though, were just disappointing.
Did you know the Russian actually got stabbed in that scene!! They forgot to switch out the prop knives and that was his actual reaction to getting stabbed 😎
I immediately clicked on this once I saw the thumbnail lol. This Punisher movie is one of my favorite movies! I wish they followed up with a sequel and had Thomas Jane come back
9:49 Without a towel to lay on “doing it” on a beach is definitely not as glamorous as the movies make it out to be. Also W/O a towel I highly recommend NOT being the one on their back. 😜
This older Punisher wasn't bad, but it takes away from how shocking her first impression of the character would have been if she went into Daredevil season 2 blind. I'd have saved older scrapped takes on characters for after seeing the current fully fleshed out version spoiler free.
The original origin of Frank Castle's transformation from family man to killing machine is brutally sad. He became a shell of a human filled with the burning rage of a napalm strike and the ice cold finality of a nuclear winter. A man with nothing to lose and doesn't give a fuck about anyone or anything (including himself) is someone you should both fear and be wary of.
This one is my favorite Punisher. This feels very grounded with crazy elements. I like this balance best. The Netflix version is cool but didn't really feel like the Punisher more like a bad ass dude killing people. I would like a bit more comic book vibes in the new ones.
Like 85% of the best Marvel movies came from them. The Punisher show was made while Disney owned Punisher. There's zero reason to hate Marvel being owned by Disney.
In this version the punisher's military backstory is that he's ex delta force turn ex undercover FBI agent. And in the original comic book storyline is that he's ex marine and lost his wife and kids.
My favourite movie version of The Punisher, I always loved the character, and Thomas's voice is perfect for Frank, and since this movie I always heard his voice while reading comics, plus the game The Punisher, voiced by Thomas Jane was awesome, and one of the most brutal games I played, mom bought It for me on my 13th birthday 😄.

@clbaker8356 - there is a lot of good actors or cameo there, in that movie (The Punisher):
- The guitar player in the diner, that's Mark Collie - a professional country music singer
- the guy with piercing in his lips = Ben Foster, from the classic Pandorum movie, or The Mechanic.
- and one of the neighbours - Rebeca Romijn - the original Mystique from Marvel X-Men movies, or even older one Femme Fatale (or even the entertaining The Librarians series)
FunFact: Joan is played by Rebecca Romijn (Mystique) and Spacker Dave is played by Ben Foster (Angel) both actors were from 2 of the X-Men movies
This was one of my favourite movies when I was younger, I still quote it a lot with my friends to this day. Super good early marvel films.
Also.....
The Singing Assasin was Played Country Music Singer Mark Collie, The Russian was Played by WWE Star Kevin Nash.....
Ben foster would later play Angel in X-Men.
@@CoastalNomad Big Sexy, Kevin Nash. Super Shredder.
Dont forget the wrestler Kevin Nash played The Russian.
The video game inspired by this movie was one of the ones I played multiple times when I was a kid. Loved it!
Thomas Jane was the one of the Vegan Police Officers from “Scott Pilgrim VS the World” 😂😂
To recite on of the coments from one of the videos with Punisher: "Punisher is the only character who doesn't have a active villain because he killed his counter part long back." This is why i love this guy: he don't have any powers or gadgets to deal with bad guys in non-lethal way, so he just have to use traditional human method - violence. He easy to sympathize then other heros due to they godly-like powers to do all peacfully unlike humans who had rock and stick from the beginning. He's not a fully good guy since killing is still bad, but he do what other super-heroes can't: sacrafice public image over justice.
The sequel wasn't a reboot. It's a new story. It definitely has its own flair. I'd recommend it: The Punisher: Warzone
Harry Heck was played by Country singer Mark Collie. I met him many years ago in Nashville. He was super nice and talked to us for like 15 minutes.
I just want to take the time to appreciate and thank Kacee for pronouncing decal right. I know soooooo many people who say "Deckle" and it's like "No, it's D-Cal. Say it right!" so, thank you Kacee.
This movie slaps so hard. Honestly the best live action Punisher in my opinion.
In the comics there are many punished story's that are just too brutal to make it to movie form, speaking of ghost rider frank castle is immune to the penance stare, cause really don't feel bad for anything he's ever done.
They just showed his whole family being killed pretty sure there's nothing off the table
Not how the Penance stare works. That's just from one terribly written comic.
@@SSD_Penumbra Kind of feel like everything that happened to his family in this movie was 10x worse than pissing on their corpses
In the comics frank was at a picknic with his family and was cought in a mob crossfire but this origin is so much better and really sets in Frank's find set
There was also the Kills The Universe Frank, whose family were caught in the middle of an Avengers/X-men battle.
That picnic origin hit alot harder because it was a random act of violence. People do get caught in the cross fire of gang shootings and criminal behavior most of the time. Stray bullets has taken lots of lives over the years.
@ultrainferno. Oh i like this version wway better
Always thought Tom Jane's Punisher was terribly underrated, it was a pretty faithful interpretation of the character and a good film.
Recommend looking the short film Dirty Laundry that's supposed to be a follow-up to this film it's actually on RUclips.
Thomas Jane was originally considered for Rick Grimes in the walking dead, so we would've had 2 Punishers in the same zombie killing show (also RIP to Mr sunny disposition aka comedian John Pinette)
really?
It’s funny really how the Punisher hates the police cause in the comics they didn’t do anything to help avenge his family yet alot of people use HIS symbol to support the police
And he hate the police officers who do that even more
@@superthorc6894 not as much as corrupt cops.

16:22 "They forgot about physics". Classic villain trope. Put it on a t-shirt 😂.
Castle spends years to exact his revenge against those responsible
The third adaptation was played by Ray Stevenson in Punisher War Zone in 2008.
Hell of a workout….
@@txmetalhead82xk Has an explosive effect on muscle development.
Kevin Nash Not only would he take on Hulk Hogan in the ring, he was also the Super Shredder.
What does the blue stripes mean?
"It's so loud! Is it supposed to be so loud?"
"Oh no, it's beautiful."
My favorite part.
Frank: I have work to do. Read the newspaper everyday, you'll understand.
Me: *The Publisher*
Fun fact about the fight scene with "The Russian"... the balisong he stabbed into Waldo's chest was supposed to be a prop knife, but he had the wrong one. Thomas Jane actually stabbed the guy, and he just kept going with the scene like nothing happened. The blood on his shirt is very real.
“Sardines, whiskey, and hate” omg that had me crying
There's a short that's worth checking out on RUclips called "Dirty Laundry" starring Thomas Jane. There was no other sequel made.
The punisher vs the Russian will always play on repeat in my head😂😂
The Russian is also played by former wrestler Kevin Nash
He also played Francis in John Wick
Fun fact about that fight: The part where Thomas Jane stabbed Kevin Nash was actually real. Obviously, in most movies, they use fake knives or digital effects to make a stab look real, but in this case, they forgot to switch out the props between takes, and Kevin got stabbed with a real knife. They kept it in the movie because both actor's genuine reactions made the scene better.
It’s a shame he didn’t talk.He did the voice of the Russian in the game. I guess he couldn’t mention the other superheroes because of copyright.
I remember watching the beach scene as a kid and I was so shocked 😂 I was like this is the most violent film I've ever seen
I love Jane's punisher. His facial expression was just perfect. He had that emotionally dead look in his eyes whenever you see him. His portrayal was also great. I feel like he's exactly what punisher would be like if he's real.
When I saw this movie, I thought Thomas Jane was really good as The Punisher... they announced John Bernthal as The Punisher my thought: "Oh, good call"
And when I saw him play as Punisher my thoughts: "He freaking nailed it! OMG He was just a brute force and someone who you don't want to mess around with." Like The Punisher. lol
Great reaction. :)
39:24 you are seeing a man actually stabbed in the collarbone. There was a mix up with props and a real butterfly knife was accidentally handed to the highlander and then he unknowingly stabbed him. Waldo was such a pro he didn’t even flinch and carried on with the scene. Respect
Ps: couldn’t remember the actors names, sorry. But Waldo was the heavyweight champion for awhile!
One time the ghost rider used the penance stare on frank castle, dude didn't blink
Ray Stevenson was an awful Punisher. He made me appreciate Dolph in the role.
@@TheBS1000 Ray Stevenson's punisher is the most comic book accurate representation on screen to date whether you like it or not.
@@Nimzzeee Regardless of how the character was written for that film, he's still a bad actor.
@@TheBS1000hey if you can appreciate Dolph then I can't argue with your opinion 👍
@@Nimzzeee I know. It's ironic. The only thing I can say about Dolph is that he didn't say much and the movie itself was so bad that it became entertaining to watch. War Zone and Stevenson, though, were just disappointing.
(At 19:00) Except The Punisher's NOT a hero, he's an anti-hero. Heroes don't take lives.
There’s a deleted scene that shows Frank finding the person that told Howard Saint where his family was going to be for that vacation.
This and Constantine where very underrated imo 👍 great reaction. Also if you liked tom Jane "the mist" is a must watch 😊
The Russian was a great early meme lol.
“In Soviet Russia, Waldo finds you.”
Did you know the Russian actually got stabbed in that scene!! They forgot to switch out the prop knives and that was his actual reaction to getting stabbed 😎
Well he is Big Daddy Kevin Nash I expect nothing less. You can probably stab him now and get the same reaction.
They both apparantly got stabbed in this movie thomas jane got stabbed too lol. Thomas Jane and Kevin Nash that is...
Coming from a major Jaws fan I absolutely love the fact that the Punisher’s father is chief Brody 😂
Gritty hero movies with a decent plot without the cinematics tend to low key be great
I immediately clicked on this once I saw the thumbnail lol.
54:10 smh its a mine with a trip wire if he threw it, the mine would just explode on him 🤦♀
This older Punisher wasn't bad, but it takes away from how shocking her first impression of the character would have been if she went into Daredevil season 2 blind.
One of my very first marvel movie, really enjoyed it 🔥🔥
@20:43 The late, great John Pinette (Bumpo) doing his own singing. What a talented comedian, actor, and singer. He is missed.
This one is my favorite Punisher. This feels very grounded with crazy elements. I like this balance best. The Netflix version is cool but didn't really feel like the Punisher more like a bad ass dude killing people. I would like a bit more comic book vibes in the new ones.
You are a naughty little boy who needs to be disciplined
Stop the cap that's punisher
only recently read the comics from teh 90's and SO much of this movie pulls directly from that period... the icy torture, the projectile knife..
Yessssss I fucking love Thomas Jane as The Punisher! Nobody reacts to this. Lol
Fun fact: when punisher is fighting Russian waldo, Thomas Jane actually stabbed him in that scene. The knife was supposed to retract and didnt.
Good movie, great cast 👍
@42:40 Casey: (paraphrasing) “His neighbors came in clutch.”
Me: “Oh, just wait and you’ll see just how clutch they can come in.”
I actually hate that Disney owns Marvel now...
Like 85% of the best Marvel movies came from them. The Punisher show was made while Disney owned Punisher. There's zero reason to hate Marvel being owned by Disney.
@@lex_rodriguez Hence the word "now"

Same with Star Wars. Trash!
In this version the punisher's military backstory is that he's ex delta force turn ex undercover FBI agent. And in the original comic book storyline is that he's ex marine and lost his wife and kids.
The first season of Punisher goes pretty hard, definitely worth a watch after DD S2
Too much crying and yelling. Graveyard scene in DD S2 was fantastic, though.
All three punisher movies are great in their own special little ways
You guys are in for a treat. I hope you’ll be watching the other one
Bruh that “why are you killing me” gave me chills! Forgot how underrated this movie was.
The Punisher series was better than the old movie.
I made a mene about the Russian, actually.
"In Soviet Russia, Waldo finds you"
never seen the new series punisher but I absolutely love this movie!
Both Punisher seasons are great. Thanks for reacting to this movie. I've always liked this one. It fit the period of time it came out. All the best.
I was just thinking about this film the other day, nice to rewatch it again
