I owe this play so much gratitude. In high school I was cast as Tom and it was on of the greatest performances that I have ever done and is what continues to inspire me to pursue theater. Thank you Tennessee Williams.
Apex Predator My college opened this play tonight and one of my friends is playing Laura. I wanna play Laura someday. She's such a beautiful and delicate character to play, not to mention she gets to look at all of those beautiful glass figurines. Beautiful, but so fragile, just like her.
i find it hilarious that the abc version of glass menagerie stars two future "law and order" district attorney's (sam waterston-jack mccoy and michael moriarty-ben stone)
I absolutely agree, saw it the first day it was out in 1987. Years later I had the great privilege to meet Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward and tell them personally how much I loved it.
The 1966 television production of The Glass Menagerie starred Shirley Booth and Hall Holbrook, and is, in my opinion, the best screen adaptation of the play that I have seen. Shirley Booth is far superior to both Katherine Hepburn and Joanne Woodward. The video is available for view here on RUclips, and I encourage everyone to watch it.
Thanks for the recommendation. Shirley Booth was a great actress of course, but I don't see how anyone could top Ms. Woodward. If you can find it, there was a fine recording of the play made in the early '60's with Jessica Tandy in the part and Monty Clift as Tom. He was clearly not well but still did a great job.
It's the opening night for this play at my college and one of my friends is playing Laura. Someday I want to play Laura in Glass. I auditioned for the show, but she's a better choice than I probably ever will be.
Well, that's awfully nice of you to say. I'm currently in an Intermediate Acting class and I have been given the absolute honor of playing Laura in a scene from the show. I got the role yesterday and I'm still slightly in shock. Laura's been my dream role ever since I first saw the play. I even started a glass collection of my own and I realized that, back in my senior year of high school, I had a slight crush on a guy named Jim. I'm also incredibly anxious, I have a slight limp, I've become very shy over the years, and I have my own record player.
I'm pretty sure you guys made this video now because of the broadway revival just ended a week and a half ago, so i'm utterly surprised that you didn't talk about the most popular stage adaptations in here, too.
I'm reading a monologue from this play!! :) After I perform my final performance I'll come back and look at this. I can't watch someone else perform the piece I'm doing or it'll mess with my mind and I don't want to imitate anyone.
Thank you mojo, helped me ace my assignment, regarding this story. And I did it without wasting my time reading the book. I understand this is a well-written story, especially at the time. But this story... not for me, I wanna frag my brain on dumb stuff.
I had to do a group project on that book for AP Lit in 12th grade. I'm sure it's well-written, but I had SO MUCH TROUBLE with that book. I couldn't finish it. Also literature like that transfers over into pop culture. The movie Easy A is a perfect example, I think.

Thank you for making this. I was just assigned to do a scene from this play.
The John Malkovich with Karen Allen and Joanne Woodward version is the best IMO
I absolutely agree, saw it the first day it was out in 1987. Years later I had the great privilege to meet Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward and tell them personally how much I loved it.

I’m playing Laura for a scene in my class and am super excited to play such a challenging character
Jessie Lee If you can get a recording of the play with Julie Harris playing Laura it is very good.
love this play
I remember when I read the book. I may get hate for this but... I didn't like it... at all. I thought it was too drawn out, confusing and dull.
and that's ok, I've learned that people either love or hate Tennessee Williams' plays. No different than anything else. Just your opinion.
janeyrevanescence12 Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait... wait...... wait......... a tolerant person on the internet? ... Is this a dream?

If you found it boring that means you didn't really pay attention on the play... It's actually quite exciting, just really depressing
