Oh my god. My uncle Steve wrote this song, drummer of cold chisel. It gives me so much healing and happiness hearing people making soul moving music with his words. Thank you. Uncle Steve would be looking down on you all thanking you all so much making such a beautiful version of his song. I can't thank you all enough myself. Keep it up, absoloutley amazing!! 🙏🌟
You can not be serious these guys sound like their asleep when Jimmy and Cold Chisel sing this song they give it some "guts" it really means something then!!! WAKE UP JARRYD JAMES AND CO!!!! BEFORE YOU SING!!!!!!! OR AT LEAST GET OUT OF BED!!!!!!
@@kerryhead9418 its not a straight up cover. Its a new rendition to the song which youre obviously not a fan of. Stay away from soul and rnb if thats the case.
As a child born of a Vietnam Veteran who fought that bloody war in 1966-67. This song let alone this version really brings it home to the soul and heart. Years of pain and turmoil growing up with a father who was lost in that jungle and lost in that war. Even though he physically made it home. He was mentally lost forever.
In fairness Khe Sanh is about veterans struggling with life after the Vietnam War, but this song doesn't have that link. Steve Prestwich (the writer) never once intended the song to be interpreted that way. It's all about going home after years of life's ups and downs and not knowing how you'll cope with being in your original home town. Steve came to Australia from England when he was 17, so the Vietnam thing wasn't on his radar.
Either way mate. It touches a lost and forgotten but also everyday life’s dealings with mental issues caused by a father or uncles service. The constant reminder and line of “ain’t nobody gonna steal this heart away” rings home. And when you as the defendant of that soldier or already dead soul. KIA or not. Brings it home more than those who have never dealt with it will ever imagine. Regardless of intention of who wrote it. We…. Yes we. Those who are here and present and constantly deal with it or push it away. Will always know this song as a “dealing with the ptsd and stress of the conflict murder and death created and caused during our families member of social embrace”. I hope that makes sense. Anyways. 👍🏻 Live and love long.
And live! In an era full of computers and sampling and ultra over produced music... it's so wonderful to see Australia is still producing musicians who can make such wonderful tasteful music with real instruments.
Most of the views are from me! I swear. This is one of my favourite songs! It is so raw and vulnerable and powerful! And then here the boys are, singing it together, with such deep connective emotion. It gives me ALL THE FEELS❤️ Thank goodness for music and the people who make it for us, to explore our moods and emotions and life experiences. ❤️❤️❤️🔥
I’ve mentioned this same comment on another ‘like a version’ recently, but it makes me happy when younger bands and artists cover older songs instead of the songs we hear almost every day on JJJ! This is your time to show to country and world what you’re made of, and covering something newer is just boring after waiting by the radio at work every Friday to hear a song I heard them play the day before!... Well done guys, great cover 👌
Crystal Oliver I’m so sick of hearing the same songs played week in week out that are either recent or newer songs or less then two years old when there is an infinite list of awesome music to play and cover and make your own and really show the listeners who wait all week to hear you what you’re made of! Fleetwood Mac, Zeppelin, Poison, Mötley Crüe, Prince, I could go on for days, but just some examples of potential covers that will burn into your brain and heart! Maybe like 10 years ago Thundamentals did Matt Corbys ‘Brother’ and I will never forget it as long as I live! They owned it and made it theirs! Cher Faker and Nick something doing Sonia Dada’s lover you don’t treat me no good no more! Absolutely killed it! Ocean Alley absolutely killed the late 70’s song ‘Baby Come Back’, absolutely beautiful! I could go on, but you get my point, show us what you’re made of! Show us you’re better then a synthesiser and loop machine and a nine month old song!
Crystal Oliver 8 weeks out of ten I am seriously disappointed! I wait all week knowing a good band has the privilege to play ‘Like a Version’ and play another high rotation track! I love watching Rockwiz Duets, it’s always great musicians playing awesome songs and more often then not the two singers and opposite team members are so different in their styles that they blow you away with a killer cover! Angry Anderson and Sarah McLoud from SuperJesus doing Highway to Hell, Abby Dobson and someone else playing Al Green ‘let’s stay together’, Patience Hodgson and the dude from the Panics playing ‘there goes my girl’ by the Pixies, and my personal favourite, Troy Cassar Daley and Sal Kimber on Banjo playing ‘I’m on fire’ by Bruce Springstein! Check it out, pure beauty and so much emotion, they really mastered the formula to a good music tv show for its time! How old are you? Do you remember Recovery?
I’ve been so in love with this song for as long as I can remember. it’s one of my favourite ever songs, this isn’t even as good as the original, it’s better
This cover legitimately gave me chills. That doesn’t happen with every song for me, only the really good ones. That moment where everyone comes in... So good. Those harmonies are delightful.
I don’t know if that’s Joyride pulling out that top harmony in Falsetto, or If it’s the fella from the Middle East. But all those blokes have amazing pipes!
nobody gonna steal this heart away When the war is over Got to get away Pack my bag to no place In no time no day You and I we used each other's shoulder Still so young but somehow so much older How can I go home and not get Blown away You and I had our sights set On something Hope this doesn't mean our days are numbered I got plans for more than a wanted man All around this chaos and madness Can't help feeling nothing more than sadness Only choice to face it the best I can When the war is over Got to start again Try to hold a trace of what it was Back then You and I we sent each other stories Just a page I'm lost in all its glory How can I go home and not get blown away Ain't nobody gonna steal this heart away Ain't nobody gonna steal this heart away Ain't nobody gonna steal this heart away Ain't nobody gonna steal this heart away Ain't nobody gonna steal this heart away Ain't nobody gonna steal this heart away
I know I’m late to the party, but this legit brought a tear to my eye.
This is some magic.
My ears are not worthy. 👌🏽

This is so delicate and beautiful I have listened to it 4 times in the last 20ish minutes.

the view are from me and you both!, i’ve cone back to this too many times!
Bloody gorgeous. You know you’ve made it when Matt Corby is your back up singer.
B is for Branding matt corby and jarred james was actually in a band together when they were young .
They've known each other for half of their lives. Used to play together. Matt said he actually learned some of stylistic vocals from Jarryd.
Surprised he stayed quiet the whole time. Disappointed he didn’t belt at all LOL.
@@wowawewah That makes sense since Matt obviously has a great head voice which resembles Jarryd's

Really sensitive cover boys, one of my favourite Chisel songs. Big thumbs up!!
This cover legitimately gave me chills. That doesn’t happen with every song for me, only the really good ones. That moment where everyone comes in... So good. Those harmonies are delightful.

Came back for a listen 2 years on and was about to write something very similar until I saw my own post 😆
I’m surprised Matt has shoes on 😂 What a weapon
they're not really shoes lol
GOOD BECAUSE HE'S VOICE CERTAINLY IS NOT A WEAPON THEY SOUND LIKE THEY ARE ALL ASLEEP!!!!!
Kerry Head you’re so wrong about Matt sorry. Look up his solo music, he is probably the best male singer alive right now.
More Matt Corby needed.
possibly the most beautiful thing i’ve ever heard
Absolutely beautiful rendition of an old aussie classic! Well done boys! 💗🙌🏽

Cold Chisel original kids..Ian Moss is Australia's secret musical genius.

It’s very soulful I guess I’m used to Jimmy’s version oh and John Farnham . His back up,guys a very good as well . Xox
I don’t know if that’s Joyride pulling out that top harmony in Falsetto, or If it’s the fella from the Middle East. But all those blokes have amazing pipes!
It would've been even nicer if Matt Corby has his own verse towards the end. 💗
This is sonically delicious.
Maybe the 5th best version of this classic...
1)Chisel
2)Farnham
3)any Australian audience sing along
4)Keith Urban
5)Jarryd James
Nothing like the original.
Not meant to be.
Awesome cover of an awesome song.

Max gawn has put on a few in the off season
nobody gonna steal this heart away
When the war is over
Got to get away
Pack my bag to no place
In no time no day
You and I we used each other's shoulder
Still so young but somehow so much older
How can I go home and not get
Blown away
You and I had our sights set
On something
Hope this doesn't mean our days are numbered
I got plans for more than a wanted man
All around this chaos and madness
Can't help feeling nothing more than sadness
Only choice to face it the best I can
When the war is over
Got to start again
Try to hold a trace of what it was
Back then
You and I we sent each other stories
Just a page I'm lost in all its glory
How can I go home and not get blown away
Ain't nobody gonna steal this heart away
Ain't nobody gonna steal this heart away
Ain't nobody gonna steal this heart away
Ain't nobody gonna steal this heart away
Ain't nobody gonna steal this heart away
Ain't nobody gonna steal this heart away
Smooooooooooth
Very nice
For a second I think he took on the shape of a unicorn....
How this isn’t the top comment I’ll never know
FIRE
Why is this still not on Spotify
Coeur d’Alene hat. Dope.
Any other NW fans recognize the hat. Dope.
Don't know if this'll get heard, but my hometown is cda, the hat, specifically of the floating green. More curious as to how it relates?
2024 come on!! 🔥
Max gawn has put on a few in the off season
Why is this version out of all the covers in these session not on Spotify or Apple? 😏
Never heard if this dude....got a smooth voice. Nice cover. That big dude looks like True Geordie.....
Very nice.
