    I’m a jeweler and I alloy to 20k for rings that get scratched and bent more easily. Alloyed properly, 20k is near same color but can be buffed with compound. You can’t buff 24k and 22k is a stretch, because it will grind in and discolor the gold. You have to burnish 22 to 24k so more time consuming. I wear 24k around my neck and wrist.

    • @ThomasofAllTrades
      @ThomasofAllTrades  5 месяцев назад

      That's nice. I gotta get a ring custom made. I think I would go with 20k rather than 24. I'm afraid it would just get deformed when worn on my hand. Wrist and neck should be ok with 24k jewelry.

  • @sinesaii

    Most American gold is 14k or 18k. 10k is usually more towards “urban” products such as over-sized Cuban chains or diamond-studded pendants.
    Indian jewelers will often carry 22k as well as 24k jewelry. The 22k is visibly more yellow than 18k, and both the red and the yellow are strong enough for most uses (although 18k red gold looks better in my opinion).
    Chinese jewelers make all kinds of items in 24k, but it is soft and expensive. In addition, it seems like white gold is an American/European thing. I lived in China, and I never saw it. I have been working with Indian jewelers, and they similarly do not deal with white. White gold only comes in 20k or lower, with most 18k or 14k. Of all the types, only white gold looks good in 10k.

      As a American, It's extremely hard trying to find 18k gold in America from my experience.
      Go to any place that sells jewelry here. And most of it is 10-14k like he said. We are extremely cheap with the production of gold jewelry. Don't like using much of it. And like making stuff as thin as possible. Then Complain about how fragile gold is. Then mark in up 3000% over top of spot.
      We do the same with silver. Except we do at have it at 925. Or 92.5% silver. But again, it will be fragile, weigh only 3 grams at most. And cost like anywhere from $30-$100.Be very thin, then Complain about how fragile silver is.
      We aren't serious with our jewelry. It's just all for show.

  • @blackpearl9504

    Finally someone said it!
    I have a 99.9 fine silver ring I wear all the time( I suspect it's slightly off like 99.0 or 98.0%. For certain reasons and observations.) and I get the same thing. "It's a lie because silver that fine is too soft for jewelry and will break." i see arguments like this all the time online, along with the belief that 24k gold jewelry is impossible.
    My ring is like 20 years old and completely intact, and looks almost perfect. Not crooked or anything. Silver is tougher than gold. But still treated like it's extremely fragile.
    I keep saying to people it's only that fragile if you make it that way. And that the key is to MAKE IT THICKER, AND MORE SOLID. And don't beat it up carelessly.
    Our jewelry is often made super thin. Tbh, we're cheap. That's why it's so fragile.
    We want to take 0.7 grams of gold or silver. And FORCE it to stretch into a entire necklace and wonder why it broke. You get what you pay for.
    If you want a sturdier purer piece. USE MORE GOLD OR SILVER. The thicker it is, the stronger it will be. Yes it's more expensive to make. But you are exaggerating how soft these metals are because you aren't trying to make it sturdy. You want to use as little as possible. So you can mark it up as high as you want.

  • @xinghuali2842
    @xinghuali2842 2 года назад +11

    Yes is too soft the reason why it’s alloyed, but it depends on how you take care of your gold pieces. I have 21k, 22k and 24K ring, bracelet and necklace. It’s popular around Asia I got mine in Saudi Arabia, Dubai and Thailand. Been wearing it for 6 years now and still in good condition.
    N

    • @ThomasofAllTrades
      @ThomasofAllTrades  2 года назад +11

      Exactly. I think also the reason why American jewelers make 14k and 10k is because of the cost of gold.
      I just don't like it how they say we don't sell 24k because it's too soft as if it's impossible to make a 24k jewelry.
      18k to 24k jewelries look way nicer to me.

Try bending a 2mm thick 24k, and 18k gold and you’ll see, we have a workshop and worked with gold for years. You can even pound a 24k gold and turn it into a gold leaf that’s how soft or pliable the metal is.

    Selling and purchasing gold jewelry is a scam in western countries. In middle east and east gold means money. You can cash it whenever you want according to the weight of the piece not according to how its condition is cause they immediately melt it for the next piece that they want to make with the same piece. Also there are amazing rules about pricing a piece in Asian countries. For instance there is a standard service in Iran which easily you can check name of the workshop and the artist who made the piece by sending sms to a specific official number

    Long story short.
    There is no profit in sell pure gold cause your paying for what you get.
    In gold alloys you’re paying more for less gold Period.

      They still can add some mark up for the gold and they get discount from their suppliers but a lot of American jewelers sell 14k to 18k because they could sell less gold and get more money.

      Gold coming from the explosion of a supernova is fact-based, scientific, empirical evidence. Facts which you certainly don't have for your god.

      @ThomasofAllTrades  Год назад +2

      I mean...you're right. God did make everything, including stars that could explode and produce gold through a process called nuclear fusion.

      Gold was formed by an exploding supernova star and it released trillions of gold pieces with silver, lead, and uranium in the outterspace before the planet was formed. Lead used to be gold, silver, and when uranium stops becoming radioactive is become lead. Gold and silver are perfect alloys together.

      @@ryanvv9349 still reading fan fiction novels eh.... Let me educate: A fact, by our interpretation, is something proven/witnessed-- who the hell do you know has witnessed an exploding star reproduce gold? It takes an insignificant temperature, far less than the sun, to melt gold. Anything close to a quarter of the heat from the sun would completely evaporate the metal. You took someone's theory and decided to label it fact because it appeals to your ignorance. We can't even travel beyond the moon or there successively... Why would you accept a person's propaganda about an exploding star...? And if it was from an exploding star don't you think traces of it would been photographed on the surface moon and other planets? Gold is no more than the dirt of paradise. And all Perfect praise is for God Almighty.
