Y'know what, you did NOT have me until like halfway through, but now I've finished the video? I am very much on-board. Let's be real: I hate Sword and Shield. They are far and away my least favourite titles, below even XY, and I genuinely don't see myself ever replaying them. BUT I think a big part of why I hate the Kalos and Galar games so much is that the potential is painfully obvious, and never delivered upon. A sequel would not fix SwSh, sure, but it would certainly be a great way to breathe life into a region that is in DESPERATE need. I love the idea of putting the new legendary into the ice biome, the part of Galar that appears to be the least explored, and it would even work for why it was inactive for so long - it froze into dormancy. A few extra cities and towns would do *wonders* for Galar, poor Wales needs SOMETHING so either that could be the postgame area, a secret hidden area like Anville Town, or a DLC. Yes, yes, YES to us seeing what happens to our original squad. Give me Fairy Gym Leader Bede - hell, make him replace Raihan as the final challenge in the Gym Circuit. Show me Professor's Assistant Hop, giving us our starter just like his brother did in the first game and travelling around helping us unravel the mystery of the region. Give me mentor Marnie, a quiet Gym Leader who we've learnt a lot from, who accompanies us at various points as a bodyguard of sorts. With Hop taking a Bianca-like role and Marnie a Cheren-like role (from BW2), these two could really flourish as characters. I'd love a solo-traveller Leon, this eccentric man who gives advice and always seems to be lost, we don't know who he is but he knows us (through Hop), only to be revealed as the true final battle of the game like Cynthia in Gen 5, or Red in Gen 2. Give us a Rose who has lost all purpose, maybe Peony has moved back to the mainland and is taking care of him. The Champion spot could be empty like Gen 7, or make the Champion Raihan - he IS said to be capable of achieving Champion status just about anywhere, but stays in Galar specifically to one day beat his rival Leon, and having a Weather-based Champion, even a DOUBLES Champion, would be so unique. I know it's the biggest crack idea ever, but if Raihan WAS the Champion, and he DID do double battles, why not have Bea and Allister, and Melony and Gordie, become our first dual type gyms, doing double battles. Ghost and Fighting cover each other pretty well, and we could see a friendship between two very different trainers, and Melony and Gordie could become a great mother-son duo, with Melony's Aurora Veils making Gordie's bulky Rock types even sturdier. These battles would prepare the player for Raihan's champion fight, but also make himself distinct, as he doesn't need a partner to be the best. SwSh sequels legitimately have a LOT of potential here, provided they can make the transition into a new villain we've never seen before go seamlessly, which is the real make or break point that I don't really have an answer to myself.
Hopefully in this spikemuth isnt just a straight line lol but i definitely agree that there was a lot left untouched on swsh that could’ve helped improve the games
I don't think it NEEDS a sequel... It did get _two_ DLCs after all... Its also wayy too soon for a sequel. But someday in the future they could definitely pull it off.
Honestly, I'd like to see Galar just get a second chance in general. Part of this is just due to SWSH's controversial nature, but I feel like part of it is also how the last year of Gen 8, Galar's time in the sun, was taken up by Sinnoh, technically twice. Granted, remakes in general could be argued to do this, but I would argue that the previous remakes(minus FRLG) have had some connections to their spotlight region Johto is not only connected to Sinnoh via the Sinjoh Ruins, but also with how Sinnoh already had cross gen evos, a lot of its most notable ones coming from Johto ORAS' version of Hoenn not only had the addition of Mega Evolution, but I also can't help but feel Kyogre and Groudon got some symbolism from Xerneas and Yveltal respectively. Also a hanful of flowers in Sootpolis being the same type as had by Eternal Flower Floette Let's Go not only had the Alola forms but also the Mina fight. I could also see the idea of having newer trainers instead of having Red and Leaf as a reflection of the idea of newer fans meeting older ones(Granted its loose but its still an idea I like) Aside from Laventon heavily implied to be from Galar, there's not much of Galar and Sinnoh crossover. I know why it makes sense from a historical perspective, but I'm talking from a game one This is normally where the anime could help but Pokémon Journeys was Pokémon Journeys.
Thank you finally someone who sees the true joy of this game. This was my first ever Pokémon game and the first game I ever got on my switch and the first game I ever played in general.
You're so right when it comes to the map being misutilized design wise. Kudos. Galar deserves a sequel fr. A competitive region about passing of the torch is worthy of a second sports season. Legends would have a set of Gens 2, 5 and 7 Starters like Arceus did. I'm imagining Totodile, Snivy and Litten tbh. A crocodile, a snake and a tiger who are MORE SAVAGE bc of the WILD AREA.
One thing i hope they do when remaking the region's like Galar or paldea is that they put more detail in the wilderness like secret cave that not just a hole with a item in it like something you can explore in.
this video doesn’t really feel like “Sword and Shield deserves a sequel”, it feels more like “my sword and shield fanfic”. Very little here is based in what actually happened in swsh
I defiantly felt like there should have been more shadow organisation, linking to the royalty and Macros cosmos pulling the stings, but dude you cooked on what could have been added, but defiantly agree with making the north of Galar another wild Area. I wanted to like sword and shield but i agree it defiantly felt hollow with a shallow plot compared to the rest, reflected in the town and city sizes where the were unexplorable and disheartening.
If I remake the Sword and Shield game Chairman Rose will have a Steelix in the team Gigantamax Steelix. Also I myself would be in the locations that Steelix is in
I’ve kind of been tempted for a while to redesign galar not for a sequel concept, but a redesign of the original games as a whole, as I think those games should’ve had a better story/map (especially with route 10 practically being a line)
Sword and Shield are my fav Pokemon games! The region is so fleshed out and storyline being character driven more than anything is perfect for a sequel. One of the most down to Earth stories (other than Eternatus lol) and I’d absolutely love to revisit it 🫶 We need to see GMAX Pokemon destroying the region IN GAME too. I wanna fight them like a Zelda Boss mixed with a Legends Arceus Noble…
Ah postwick. Havent had to deal with the pain of hearing someone mispronounce that in a while XD (pozzick btw). Personally im hoping for a legends eventually where we get to see what eternatus looked like before, always felt that it being a skeleton was a big missed opportunity kinda like original kyurm
I don't hate the DLC path the games are taking instead of 3rd versions, that said I wish we got more sequels like B2W2 that show us how the region changes after the events of the original stories.
SW/SH and scarlet/violet are both case studies in how not to make a game *individually*... however take the best of both and mash them together, and i believe theres a special experience somewhere. *edit: nice video btw, subbed
As a fan of SwSh, I think Galar region's story, Dynamax, came out largely unseen due to the limitations of its production environment and experience at the time. Just as SV (though of course it's buggy) expressed Paldea region's charm and characteristics, especially its story, well through open world, Galar has ample potential to receive the same treatment.
It is my perspective that Sword/Shield were just terribly written story-wise with you not learning anything about what was going on with Macro Cosmos behind the scenes until the last five minutes of gameplay. Had the games been made in an earlier generation, you would have been at the forefront of helping Leon figure out exactly what as going on instead of Leon blocking you from doing anything other than the gyms. I think it is way past the time to rethink the entire pokemon single region concept for each generation and go multi region like they did only once with generation 2 games. We shouldn't be restricted to just gym challenge stories. In Violet/Scarlet's base game, Arven's storyline where he was trying to save his mabosstiff resonated with so many people because who wouldn't try to save their beloved pet from harm? Had the entire game been about trying to help this young man save his dog, I would definitely have been totally on board with it. Imagine a world trekking story where we are trying to find a location where Eternatus or whatever other dangers that can potentially end the world be stored away or sent to a safer place. I would not be opposed to going back to Galar though. It is the first region where the gym challenges felt like an actual sport as opposed to a rite of passage that everyone attempts in the earlier games. If a Sword/Shield 2 is to happen, I would like them to expand much more on the open world that Violet/Scarlet showed us and make entire areas open for exploration instead of just having a smattering of wild areas.
Sword and Shield are just the new X and Y. Hated upon release, defined by its flaws, but now the kids that grew up with it are starting to find their voices on the internet so suddenly there’s a cult following behind it, and now people are demanding a sequel/Legends to make up for its failure. It’ll happen again one day.
Honestly I hate the dlc format since they retroactively make it so the stories never get an updated copy unless they get a remake but even now that may not happen if BDSP is the new remake route. Plus all of the DLC we’ve gotten this far basically has just been a glorified postgame that could be extra content that’s easily put into the remake games
So to be fair - I enjoy the premise of this video, the problem I have with this concept is that Galar is done. They made the region the way they did because that was their vision. To Sequel S&S - would be step a backwards for the franchise and realistically wouldn't be on the table for at least the next decade. You are much more likely to get a Legends Galar then sequels.
Pokémon fans deserve a decent game. Sword and shield deserve to be buried and forgotten like a repressed memory, they released in a sorry state and fans were forced to pay for dlc that should have been included on release. fans deserve to have a full Pokédex and not have to pay upwards of 100£ for the absolute soulless detritus that we've been given over the switches lifetime. Legends Arceus was the exception. Pokémon orange and grapes. was the biggest insult.

if they do a sword and shield 2, i definitely want them to expand the glimwood tangle more because it has so much potential

I think that they will do necrozma after z-a then legends eternatus or legends darkest day after legends necrozma.
Honestly, I'd like to see Galar just get a second chance in general.

Cool koncept, this sounds great!

Almost like all Pokemon content creator

I think sword and shield needs legends games
I think that there should be a legends game based off the prophecy so we can see first hand what happened and experience it
If I remake the Sword and Shield game Chairman Rose will have a Steelix in the team Gigantamax Steelix. Also I myself would be in the locations that Steelix is in

Yeah I feel like SW and SS need a legends game before a sequel, makes sense to create hints in a legends game for a sequel

Yeah I fully agree because where tf did chairman rose escape to

I have a feeling that we will get a legends game of gen 8 that will be good like this video so swsh 2 could be liteallry black and white 2 2.0
I disagree, we need a sun and moon 2
