Interesting, that we use the same tag from that manufacturer in europe. The big advantage is, that it has the same mounting mechanism. So I can just replace the tag in another country, without glueing the second tag to the windscreen.

I use the one tag for everywhere ("everywhere" being Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane).
Mine's already mounted on the top of the windscreen so no relocation to armrest for me :D

Ok i had heaps of problems with my spare tag
Now firstly the battery was fine, it was used in a old valiant we had and it sat in the glovebox most times and worked ( strange considering all the metal dashboard )
Now in the 2005 lancer it worked ( withe car never uses tolls and highways ) but again it sat in the console / cup holders and worked
Now into the commodore - it doe snot worked, i place it everywhere is does not work
So i take it to services NSW and they change it xmas 2023
The replacement does not work
Today i find out why
The last 2 model tags the bracket has a pin that presses internally to make contact with the battery
So if you do not have a bracket it will not work !!! The bracket needs to be installed so no double side tape or squashing it in the corner of the windscreen and dashboard like i used to do
So what i also learnt is that most modern cars 2015 or newer have a change in the windscreen, between the 2 glass is a heat layer - this is to help the front windscreen not fog up as much - the problem is it interferes with the etag reception
The only safe place is the black dot shielded area behind the mirror - it is not for decoration or a spot where the sun does not dry out the mirror glue - it is a area for electronics - the commodore had windscreen water sensor - it is like a laser pc mouse when water is on the screen if reflects into the laser beam and wiper comes
to test hold the etoll tag with bracket attached and place in that black are and go past a toll point - it will beep, if it is on the base of the windscreen loose it does not beep
What about model y?

You mentioned “almost” every single time. Have you had any issues with it not reading the tag where you’ve placed it? I’m thinking of doing the same, but only if it reads successfully every time.
I have had it not read once or twice, I think my passenger had their arm over the arm rest. If I was to pull a number out of the air I would say ~98% success? If it fails you'll get charged a 'video fee', in NSW I think it's ~50c extra.

Yep still in the same spot. I've had the adhesive become less sticky but I just replaced it with some stronger adhesive. I haven't been driving too much but overall it's reliable enough for me.
Worst case you get hit with a 55cents video processing fee.

Are all the tolls barrier-less in Australia? In Ireland we have only one.
But other toll roads have an express lane for toll tags, same type as yours.

Hey I was exactly looking for this as I also feel sticking in windshield sucks on new Tesla . Btw did you ever missed any toll??
It's not 100% perfect (maybe 90%?) but where I live if it does miss a toll it will use video to recognise my plate and charge me an additional 50c, I can live with that so keep it attached to the lid =).

thanks for this video, just got my model 3 and didn't want to ruin the clean internal layout with an e-tag. Will install as you have tomorrow and give it a test. Worst case I pay $0.55 a few times or end up moving it.

It is possible to remove the woodgrain section of the dash, I have done it before but I don't think there's much space in there. I wouldn't anything in there that could mess with the operation of the vents. The tag under the armrest seems to be working pretty well for me so I'm just gonna keep it there. If you have other findings or better places to out the tag let us know!
