I'm 1st team all Kuminga fan. He hasn't quite earned a max contract to date, but this dude is genuinely special. Whatever you think of Ja Morant, Anthony Edwards, Zion and Giannis at their respective positions, Jonathan Kuminga can very well be that type of player at Small Forward. Superior athlete with the skills to back it up. It's reading the game that will need to develop most. Not keeping him will be a huge regret.
And I like his jumper more than most people. The form is solid, and if you look at month-by-month shooting splits last season there's a LOT to love moving forward.

Good analysis. His shooting needs to drastically improve and his read n react skills. Driving into 3+ defenders into the paint while having someone wide open at the 3... And still deciding to try and score?😂
Also, defenses give him a disrespectful amount of space when he's out at the perimeter. If he can't make defenses pay, by knocking down 3s... It'll be easy to crowd the lanes and force him to make a tough basket, or a bad pass.
No way in hell Kuminga is worth a max. BUT, I do think some teams would give him the max and he is a valuable trade asset if the warriors still want to compete.

I like how one of the first highlights in this video is Kuminga driving on Vassel who plays solid D, somehow getting his shot off, but only to be rejected by Wemby moments later 😅

40% is just below average, so it's not great, but not bad either.
The midrange is the worst shot in basketball, and shooting it well should not be a focus for most players.

He works extremely hard to refine his game so I won’t believe he can’t get there.
JK has had a full arsenal on offense, until the 2nd half of last season, when (by his own admission) he lost confidence in this outside shot and began consistently setting for a drive, where defenses which watch his videos could sag. Score or not, teams are savvy. If he's drawing defenses into the paint (this video shows), he's so bent on getting to the rim that he doesn't see his array of shooters open on the perimeter! He starts with the perfect ploy of collapsing the defenses, and then ignores his success. JK is 6'7" with extraordinary hops, but the NBA is becoming 6'10" with extraordinary hops. At playoff time, when "next-level" takes over, JK gets blocked, leaving him with out a confident alternative. Kerr was not shy about implying how that example is a team shortfall. When JK has the ball, it diminishes the guesswork facing defenses, if he's not a perimeter threat. Athleticism or not, that's a more limited package than deserves a max. contract. 🤔

I like the Kid he's very talented but we can all agree that hes still hasn't got to his full potential YET, HE deserves the MAX when but too early to say i think he's still need to master his craft especially on his postups....to me i feel like patience is key and work smart
I think the clip against Wemby (min. 0:52) is a good example, why he's not worth the max. He had an open passing lane (to Draymond), did it himself and got blocked.
He has to improve in situation like that.
Impossible to answer that question if he doesn't get consistent minutes. Hopefully with his rookie extension looming the front office will put pressure on Kerr to give hime 35+ mins a game.

He’s not worth the max if they still in championship contention which I feel like they are by them signing buddy and Kyle. if they decided to rebuild sure give him the max because he is they future no doubt about it. However, if give him the max that’s absolutely going to cripple them financially to have any chances of building a legit championship roster around curry. Curry still has about 2-3 more seasons of playing at this level that GS needs to capitalize on. At that point if they giving him the max they might as well trade curry, dray, and Wiggins lol what value he still has left and just start the rebuild. Moddy, Bpodz, and kuminga not a bad start plus whatever they can get for trading curry, dray, and Wiggins and possibly buddy and Kyle at the deadline if they have any value.
Is he a real 4? His lack of wingspan hurts his interior D and rebounding. He's 6'8" and has a wingspan of 6'11" and green is 6'7" and has a wingspan of 7'3". Big wingspan has helped green alot in his career. Both Scottie barnes and Siakam has 7'3" wingspan.
40/60. Not worth it right now but if he proves next season, He is definitely a worth max player. Hopefully pride and ego won't break something in the team.
If Kuminga was gonna be worth the max he would’ve shown it by now, but even the most optimistic Kuminga defenders are still talking about what he “might” become one day.
JK will score 21.5 points, 5 reb, 3.5 ast with improved, more consistent defense, and he will earn a max extension.
A max would be crazy but in this climate I wouldn't be surprised.
Hmmm not sure he needs to develop an iso game he needs to add what you call “The PG package” to his game cause him and PG are not that far off from each other PG was athletic just JK before the injuries but PG added and polished his footwork his dribble timing and him pace to be a threat from anywhere in the court and can get by you without relying on his explosiveness too much in game.

JK needs to improve his playing IQ. It's not just about athleticism anymore.
No one would give him the max. He’s a sub 100M player until he can lock down zone defense and quick off the dribble jump shooting to become the primary scorer on his team and defend opponents best players be it AD or Luka.

If Kerr didn't rig his minutes, he would have absolutely gotten a max. He would have gotten what Bobby Marks called the "Fun Max" where a young player gets a max contract because they put up good numbers and while they aren't quite an All-Star level player yet, they're on the trajectory and are projected to be if they continue to improve.
In 26 minutes per game, he averaged 16.1 points. When you adjust for his minutes per 36, he's averages 21.9 points, 6.6 rebounds, 3 assists. Normally, guys like Kuminga would get plenty of minutes and opportunity, and it just hasn't been there. A lot of casuals will say he's not worth the max, but Kuminga is on a similar tier as Cade Cunningham, Scottie Barnes, and Franz Wagner. Those guys aren't Max level players, yet they still got it because they meet the criteria I mentioned above for the Fun Max.
Mike Dunleavy and Steve Kerr are playing a dangerous game, they can't mess with Kuminga's role and cheap out on him because they didn't give him the opportunity to play to his full potential. If Kerr doesn't embrace Kuminga as a full time starter next season, I can see the relationship falling apart
He’s not elite at anything besides attacking cutting and that’s just not good enough. Cade is elite at passing drawing doubles and iso scoring. Fran’z is literally good at everything and Scottie is basically kuminga is it’s more range and much better defense😂. And stop using per 36 stats as if it’s the end all be all. He’s sucks at passing and defense,reading defenses. He’s not an elite shot creator and is a negative when the balls not in his hands because he also sucks at shooting
@@justinholland6132 Cade is good, but he has turnover problems that come with his passing. And he's statistically one of the worst isolation scorers in the league. Franz shot 28% from 3PT last season and is a much worse shooter than Kuminga. Scottie is good, but he offensive scoring is not good enough yet.
All these players have severe flaws, Kuminga included. However, they're all still max players because of their age and production. Also, per 36 is flawed when you're using it for someone who plays 10-15 minutes per game. Kuminga's playstyle is not gonna fall off by playing 6-10 more minutes per game.
@@justinholland6132 I love how you list something Kuminga is elite at but for Franz you say he is "good at everything". So what you really said is Franz isn't elite at anything but Kuminga is. Also Kuminga has a higher off rating than Cade, gets to the line more than Scottie, and BLOWS both Cade and Scottie out of the water in terms of iso scoring (yet you list Cade as elite at iso scoring, I doubt you even look at the numbers and are just going off what you feel). And again he's had to do this while being limited by Kerr while the other guys have been able to play through all their issues.

Not even close. Defense wins championships. Short players need help, as Steph is ultimate proof. Last season, during Draymond's big suspension, Steph tried to carry GSW...he couldn't and it wore on him for the remainder. GSW was undersized and undermanned (bench), since end of 2022 finals, when their FAs scattered. Last season, Kerr repeatedly stated that without Draymond, the Dubs aren't a championship team. Green is pending HOF, which leaves his critics stuck in fantasy. Wiggins had very little support last season, especially when Klay got demoted. AW is GSW's most versatile defender, who can't carry the defense as is often was last season, and focusing on defense detracts from offense. Much better than fantasy fans revise their fantasies.
