Likes with likes. Target rule. My table seems to spawn supplies every night while I'm asleep. No matter how much organizing and tidying I do, the table never stays clear.....
I'm working on not going crazy. 😉 I need to get rid of so much so I can put away so much. It's ridiculous. Your videos always make me feel warm and fuzzy. Thank you for these much needed tips. Don't be surprised if you hear from me. 🥰
A lot of this I had learned some of this new a light bulb moment I have also learned how to make little drawers and other storage hacks as well as other tips I'm also extremely spoiled crafter with a whole room dedicated to crafting I also use it as my office I love 💖 if
A few years ago I decided “could” was a trigger word for me. In a store I would see something and think oh I could do this! I could do that! Finally realize that yes I could do that but what I’m going to do it and was I going to do it within the next year……. My bank account is much much happier as is my craft room!
I do the same thing! I ask myself what I'm going to do with it and if there are other projects (that I have supplies for) that I'm more excited about. It's a good reminder that just because I'm capable doesn't mean I have to do all the things and that the project I came to the store for is more appealing.
Oh, yes! I refer to it as the "Infamous four words" AKA, "I could do THAT!" SO many different projects started, so many different crafts I've tried and not done much with. I'm getting better, but only because I now pause every time I find myself thinking those four words! I'm still bad about picking up supplies for crafts I already do, but at least I'm not picking up a new hobby/craft every week!
Sometimes I will take a photo (or save the file, video, or whatever, on my computer) of the thing/idea I see that I ‘could’ make, instead of buying the supplies. Then I feel like I have time to mull it over, plan adaptations or whatever, and ensure I truly want to invest in the project. I’ve had things that sat in my to-do areas so long that they are sort of out of style or my taste has changed, and then there is the guilt over not using those items.
Hi Norrine, I recently found your channel. I enjoy your cheerful personality and well thought out suggestions. I have watched this video 3-4 times. I have been in the midst of a complete craft room reorganization and used your suggestions to improve my process. I took my time and made those decisions to keep, toss or donate. I focused on zones. For the first time I have everything I need and want in its place. “I could do something with this” has been my downfall. Now I ask myself “But will you?” Ha! Thanks and job well done.
I recently moved cross country and used many of your suggestions to decide what to take with me. I kept only crafting supplies I had used in the past 6 months. I donated everything to a local elementary school- they were thrilled and I was happy knowing the supplies would be put to good use instead of sitting on another crafters shelf.
Oh!!! To think of all the sweet little crafts those hands are going to make for their families this holiday. So glad you were able to let them go. How is your new space doing?
I’m Halfway there to getting my all my spaces into Zones, but am Waiting For My Family to Catch On to What I’m Doing…I Love ALL of YOUR ORGANIZATION Tips and Tricks…THANK YOU!
So this is a bit odd but I was buying things I did not need thinking I might craft with them because I saw someone haul them. Then started watching someone who crafts with junk. It inspired me so much and now I’m on a mission to only use what I have and not make something perfect but make something beautiful to.
Wow. Just wow. Thank you. I don't have a craft room or even a designated area and our home is overrun with all the "stuff". I just said to my husband I need to corral EVERYTHING and see what I have to see what we would need for storage to make a specified area for crafting. I will be able to look at my supplies with a more discerning eye, too. And donating to the elementary school (where I happen to work) is a win/win. Thank you for all of your tips. I was feeling overwhelmed and now feel excited to get started.
as a natural organizer, this came naturally to me to stay organized!!!! all of this was a no brainier for me, but its also good to hear someone else say it with examples. Thanks!!
Your tips on NOT micro-organizing (which I had seen on a previous video as well) are literally the best ideas I've ever heard, seen or watched! I have definitely transformed the way my craft room is organized because of your channel. Thank you.
I agree. I used to organize supplies by the craft--e.g. I had three places for papercraft glues, etc., fabric glues, and "general" glues. When I reorganized, all glues went into an "adhesives" box. I did the same with sewing notions and craft paper. Having likes in one place makes it so much easier to find things.
@@nuvoclassic I do mixed media too but honestly there are 3 types of glues that were my go toos: collage matte medium by Ranger, mod podge and fabri-tac. If I have room I keep a crackle medium. Pastes are more tricky but I just have one smooth white paste, one textured, and a gel. I add my own colour with gelatos or distress inks as they don’t water down the paste and I add glitter to gel to get glitter paste. I tried buying lots of different ones but they dry out so I’d rather make my own custom colours!
This has been the best video yet that I have watched for organizing my craft room. The advice is sensible and this person is classy, enjoyable and professional to watch. Inspiring! Thank you finally feel like I can wrangle my art studio!
That part of breaking everything down and having it scattered is the part that makes most people crazy but it is an ugly necessary step that gets you to the final stage of organizer.
My craft room is a disaster! I appreciate your suggest to tackle a single space at a time. The thought of emptying the entire room was so overwhelming, I couldn’t even get started. I’m now feeling encouraged and hopeful. Thank you!
You've got this, Lisa!!!!!! It will get worse before it gets better - but usually about the time you are thinking, "what have I done"... you look up and can see that it's coming together!!!!
Thank you! I am over run with craft supplies! I’ve been gearing for a big craft fair, and now it’s a crazy mess! I needed this! I think it will make my time more manageable and productive. Got do this!
The most important tip that resonated with me is making time to clean up my craft room. I'm a mad woman when I'm crafting and it takes time to put things back to right, but so worth it! I'm always happy with myself when I want to start a new project and there's nothing in my way! Thanks for another great video!
I agree! I think it is the same as doing my dishes in the evening so I get up to a clean kitchen. A much more pleasant way to start my morning (or my next craft project).
My biggest dilemma is working between two craft areas. One area is in my primary home and the second area is in my vacation home. One thing I found handy is to have a tool organizer tote in both locations. When I travel to either place I take the current projects I am working on with me in a plastic bin. One other suggestion is to take the time to plan your next projects, pull all of your supplies needed such as pattern paper coordinating cardstock embellishments washi tape etc and place them in a 12 x 12 plastic paper storage bin. It also gives you a chance to see what you have and what if anything you need when it comes time to work on the project. The downside of two craft areas is keeping both areas tidy. Your tips are amazing. Thank you. PS. I love your craft area.
Thanks so much for advising me about ZONES, everything else has fallen into place, now all I have to do is put it into zones so I know where to look for my items.
Honestly it seems I’m doing the right things. My main problems are I have too many supplies, and whenever company is coming (shot notice) I rush to put things away. The problem with that is I’m in such a hurry that I end up putting things in the wrong place. My husband recently had a good idea. He suggested I write in a notebook where I put things.
I've had many a "oh no" hurried cleaning sessions. I shove it all in one box - so that I know where anything that I can't find is..... the hard part is putting everything in THAT box away. Tell your husband I like his idea!
I love your videos on organizing. Here is a idea from Adam Savage. When he has to find a home for something new,(especially not used often items) he thinks to himself where would I look for this..then the first thought he has is where he stores it…much more likely when he needs it next, it will jog his memory when he thinks “where would I put it”. I think this idea would work well with your ideas. I use your zones for my coloring and it’s been a huge help! 💚
I've pretty much cure myself of the habit of pushing things aside to work on something else. I tidy up everytime I'm going to be gone for an hour or more (like for supper). If still in the middle of something, I put all the parts in a ziplock, put my tools in my carousel or jar, then it will all be in there when I can get back to it.
You have just described my craft room and my life to a tee. Also I want to say thank you so much for the kind words you sent to me in regards to my son a few months ago. You are a very sweet and thoughtful person💜
I love this video! Superbly thought out! I discovered long ago that when my life feels overwhelmed I can usually glance around and see that organization has become a problem . Tackling these problem areas with GREAT tips such as yours are what gets me back on track and clear thinking. Thanks so much for sharing your skils!
So helpful, Norrine, thank you! I have been admonishing myself for having too much stuff but realized I needed a bit of retraining from my youth. I have loved to sew since I was a child. My father had a rule that he would not permit me to buy new fabric until he saw the last fabric purchase made into something definitive. I had a fabulous wardrobe because I followed that practice all of my life. Since beginning paper crafting when I retired five years ago, I shopped nonstop. So you got me thinking, "Just how many flower stamps do I really need?" or, "How many stacks of pretty paper does it take to create a card?" Throughout the pandemic, I put on the brakes and avoided impulse buying. I am now enjoying using my oldies but goodies and also rediscovering those items that I have never used. I have unburdened myself of too much paper by giving it away and my craft nook feels so spacious. Thank you for sharing your clever ideas!
It's hard when we get joy from 'acquiring' new craft things!!!! But, your Dad was a wise man. So glad you are getting the benefits of using up those supplies. xoxoxo
It's so crazy that I stumbled upon your video TODAY and as I am watching it, I noticed the Date in the background! WHOAAAAAA! I think I am about to hit that 1.5 Billion lottery this week!
Now... I don't know about you ... Everytime I get rid of something.... throw it out... Or donate it... I realize a day or two or a week later.... I needed that!!!😜
I love watching craft room tours & organization videos... well organization videos/shorts/pics in general are a guilty pleasure. Something I have not yet come across would be ideas for the vertically challenged & wheelchair bound individuals. For decor one could have a friend that helps use vertical space for decor or storing seasonal/rarely used goods. However, for well used space that also allows for wheelchair maneuverability. The rolling cart is definitely a very helpful 💡 idea for both.
I love the Be Your Own Assistant idea - forever forgetting where I put those “what do I do with” items! Also, scheduling time to organize is great. Doing a regular check through things would help so much!
I do that in my kitchen with seasonings: I will use a Sharpie and write "buy more" on a container, when I am low and buy the replacement I cross out the reminder. I never thought about doing that in other places.
@@amyfouts9781 Hi Amy, They are square plastic cases with a lid....that can house 12×12 paper/cardstock....or, any other craft supply. I use them to organize the above mentioned craft supply....and, some them organize my card projects.
Oh these ten tips are JUST what I NEED! ❤️🙌❤️🙌❤️ Thank you for this video, I will watch later and try to get started again. I get so overwhelmed with the clutter in my craft room. I struggle the same as you, I push things aside to work on something else and suddenly find myself with a space on my table of 8x8 😳😬😩. You have inspired me today! ❤️
Thank you so much, Norrine, I recently retired no excuse for not having time to organize. My craft room is a disaster, I’m planning on tackling it tomorrow. I love all your tips, and try to implement them. ❤️
Take it slow.... remember, it didn't get like that in a day, so don't expect it to be finished in a day!!!! Take breaks, and remember I am rooting for you!
I recently donated some baskets to charity as I realised they had become part of the clutter. Good advice about assessing what you have and then buying containers rather than the other way round. X
When I did stamping a lot, I had plastic drawers that I organized the stamps in, great, except when I pulled a bunch of stamps out, I spent extra time putting it all back in the drawers. I made a "map" for each drawer, I put a title on each drawer and corresponding title for the stamps. It was easy to pull things out and put them away. Now that I am into quilting and sewing things for the home, I have numbered the bins the fabrics are in so I don't lose track of where leftover fabric goes. I write little post notes for the fabric I take out. The more organized I am the more fun time I have.
I’m in the process of turning half of my two car garage into my craft room and class area. I want to start making RUclips videos and selling my handmade albums, journals, cards and folios (you get the idea 😁) online. I’m learning so many wonderful habits from you, I’m sure if I follow your example I will be successful. Thank you so much!♥️
I love the idea of using a couple cookie sheets to store those unfinished projects! What a great idea! I definitely struggle with the micro-organization. It's just how my brain works. But then it backfires b/c I want it so super organized that it gets overwhelming and I end up not getting it organized at all.
The cookie sheet idea is brilliant! This will work great for my sewing projects to keep fabric from getting all wrinkled after spending hours pressing it. Thanks for all the great tips.
Same here - I want a tote for this craft and that project and this idea and that idea and this journal and that journal - and I've got so many darn totes I just stand in the middle of the room and twitch. LOL! Seriously though - I end up going into one tote to get the scissors for something else and then I lose the scissors and I end up having like umpteen pairs of scissors and only know where one pair is at any given time. And I like the "be your own personal assistant" idea - why do we think we should be able to remember EVERY SINGLE thing from our daily lives? Why do we expect ourselves to remember where we have put everything? I am beginning to understand and appreciate labels and now also little notes to myself. At one time I made myself a craft storage file where I labeled boxes and made index cards for what was in each box and then I graduated to a searchable excel spreadsheet but I haven't kept either of those things maintained, if I did, they would have been great. I guess I could ask my "personal assistant" to do it...much like I ask my "maid" to empty and reload my dishwasher, start a load of laundry and sweep and mop the floors. LOL.
Boy this was a great video. Just what I needed for getting myself on target. Only thing is I’ve spent money on all this stuff and I feel like I’m just tossing out money. I just met some new friends that are crafters so i can give them my duplicates!!
Senior centers, schools, and the Disabled Artist foundation are GREAT places to give those extra items too..... make someone's day AND make room in your space. Win-Win!
Thank you, I especially liked your ‘put likes together before buying’ tip. •My favorite organizing discovery this year is plastic silverware trays. They come in multiple sizes and colors, I can always find them used for $1-$3 at thrift shops and garage sales, and they stack well in drawers and boxes. •They help me organize both for type of craft, and zones for frequent use. •Plus I can label and relabel them easily, and it reduces stress to read the label before visually or manually searching the tray. •I’m so glad to have been learning from you how this all adds up to more streamlined and functional creative space. Yea! ☺️👍✅
Your tip on making zones is brilliant. I’ve never thought of comparing my crafting space to my kitchen. Just that simple example made it so easy for me to “get” how to this within my crafting room. The other tips were great as well, this was simply the tip that made me go, yes I can do that straight away. Thank-you so very much, oh and I love all your videos 💖
Your video popped up as I was sitting in my craft room feeling overwhelmed and a bit unorganized. I've used your advice many times over the last few years and it has been so helpful. My biggest challenge is wanting to do a variety of crafts that no longer fits in my 5 gallon bucket! Time to prioritize... AGAIN.😁
Excellent video. I can relate to every single thing you touched on. I need an extra craft room for my organizing supplies i have purchased in order to organize. Seriously have a cabinet in the garage full of them. Recently purged a lot of supplies and need to do more. And yet i still find myself drawn to organizing carts in the stores. OMG.
I like the storage carts. I bought bins, filled bins, then bought more bins, and did not fill the bins (there are empty bins all over my house, now, LOL). I bought a storage cart for my most and current-in-use items. It is great because I can roll it to where I want or need it.
Over the years, I've watching countless videos on organizing, but yours definitely has the best common-sense tips on not only how to arrange things, but how to make it work for you after everything is done and pretty and organized. I'm going to watch all of your videos as I'm getting ready to reorganize my craft room and want to do it RIGHT this time! Thanks for such wonderful tips!
You are too brilliant…..dollar tree cookie sheets for “in progress” projects and writing notes to yourself! I have learned the hard way about your other tips. I have to 1001 percent agree with you on everything you said. Even though I have lots and lots of experience in dealing with lots and lots of stuff in a tiny home, I still learn new things from you.
Hello! We just moved from a three story 2 car garage house to a one level, no garage house! You have clarified some of the mistakes I’ve been making. Your presentation is positive and warm. I feel like you really “get me!”
Hi Norrine. Nice to hear from you again. I Love watching your before and after clips from previous clients. Always Inspiring. A true professional. Your baking sheet trays is so functional for work in progress. I like the idea of dating items because it really gives one a wake up call to getting real. I too, grab things from thrift stores and garage sales on a 'possible make use of /upcycle projects' when in reality, I haven't even finished other projects yet. 🤭 Btw, that's a cute rack holding your washi tapes in. Continue to shine on and keep well dear friend. 🌹💡💕
Your video appeared in my “suggested list” at the perfect time for me. I finally have a designated space (a whole room) for my crafts and your organization tips are just what I needed to hear before moving my things into this space. I’m an organized person but I micro organize and then windup having the same item in three different places. I will definitely use all the information you provided to help me make use of my space. Thank you.
I found a lot of these tips out the hard way. My craft room/quilting room was so over run it stressed me out. i did some research and your videos helped me so much. I now have a space that brings me joy and I am able to sew once again. I have also gone on to help one of my resident's (I work in healthcare at a SNF) organize her beads. I didn't know there were so many different types of beads. TFS
That makes me so happy to hear!!!!! I love that you are enjoying your space - and am SO happy you are now able to share what you've learned with another. 💜
I didn’t think I need to hear these tips. But they make so much sense and I guess I just needed someone to tell me what to do like an aunt giving me advice I didn’t think I need. Thank you!
This is so much what I need as I have just got to get my craft room under control!!!! I noticed I had this saved and yet half of it seemed brand new. I am that ADD person who is the scarecrow always losing my straw and stuffing it back in. LOL
I recently went through my crafts supplies and decided on things I just will never use. I donated them to a family that homeschools and their children love to craft. I don't mind getting rid of things as long as I know they are going to someone that will take good care of them. I do struggle the most with cleaning up after projects. I also am always changing my craft room around and can never seem to me satisfied. It has become easier with minimizing things though. I have decided to only do certain crafts. I have gotten rid of pretty much everything to do with scrapbooking because I just don't have the time or the patience to do it. I will only do crafts that I have a home for, whether it be a gift or something I want. Love your RUclips channel and all your great ideas and suggestions.
Way to go, Bonnie!!!! You sound like my crafting spirit twin with how we like to change things around! LOL Glad you've honed in on your favorite crafts as well. xoxox
Great tips here. I just finished reorganizing the garage which includes my crafting space and finished about 5 this morning ....finally... YAY!! The container method is so valuable.... I had set up three rules for myself when I went out to organize this time and they are as follows: 1) Streamline, everything. 2) Easy in 3) Easy out Numbers two and three could probably work as sub-points but you get the idea..... Oh how the "container method" came into play in a huge way in this fashion. Also, I noticed that your table was clear.... this was something I had to do, also. In the beginning, I couldn't figure out what was making me so crazy every time I would walk out to my crafting space.... The question, "What's making you crazy?" ...also, came into play in a huge way. Clearing the table did not go quickly.....🙄..... Oh no.... it took some doing. I could think of every reason in the world to keep that table full but I knew it was NOT making me happy. So I began with pulling "one item" at a time off the table and then sitting down for 10 or 15 minutes and trying to decide.... literally trying to decide, "okay, what's the next item I pull off?" Each time, I cajoled myself thinking, " I can always put it back if it doesn't work." Interesting enough.... I found a place for each item that came off that table. That table is completely clear except for the lamp that sits in the middle(lighting there isn't as good). The cord sits wrapped in a pipe cleaner....I set up a universal plug in unit close by....to plug the lamp...the cricut machine....and, other needed things in when in use. I can honestly say that this was the biggest advantage (this time) "Clearing that table!😀😀😀" I open the door to go out to the crafting space and already I'm feeling creative... I'm feeling inspired... I'm feeling freer to do my craft. The other thing I did was something that you also touched on.... and that was to bring items closer to me that I used more regularly.....now, THIS took some doing. Years ago, I had purchased a piece of furniture that could house tchotchkes.... I added some shelves....and, it became my rubber stamping, area. FOR YEARS, I LOVED this shelving unit. While, organizing this time, I decided, I was literally OVER looking at shelves of stamps. SOOOOO.... I began, "possibility thinking". I did get rid of a few stamps but most of them, I kept. Placing most of them into a different area, I did keep one shelve of stamps in view that could be used for future stamping projects. The shelving unit SUDDENLY took on new life!😀 I now was replacing wooden block stamps ....used occasionally...with items....I use all the time....inks....LOVE USING INKS....my other markers....Cricut cartridges....YES...I still use and LOVE THESE..... Applicators....block to add makeup sponges, too. I LOVE IT!!!! I KNEW I had come upon the right answer for this furniture piece...when I found myself already using those supplies WHILE I was organizing! I have to add one more note: I FOUND IT!!!😀.... IT'S TAKEN ME MONTHS to figure out another system....for all my cutting dies....I FOUND IT!!!😀 Looking at my paper organizer, one day, ...you know the kind...6 iris drawers ...I LOVE these...I love paper flat....that's my quirk....I know it's not everyone's. ...but, its mine. Using a huge supply of magnets and cardstock cut from old insurance forms ...I fashioned a drawer system to house my dies....BUT, this time, I took out the drawers...and, replaced them with magnetized covered 3 pieces of cardstock...glued taped and hot glued together placed in 9×13 cake pans. Each cake pan is a different theme housed and labeled, accordingly . This idea is the closest I get to that somewhat represents an Alex drawer system with magnets, added. Again, ANOTHER WIN! I'm diligently trying to stay out of the craft stores... I'll allow myself to go in once in awhile to either get supplies needed or maybe just get an idea or two. I think I've been in one craft store since August... for me that's very good. I know this was quite lengthy but you inspire me in so many ways. Thank you for your frugality, your kindness... and for the amazing content that you put out there.😀😀😀
Kimberly - I am so excited to read about all of your self discoveries in your space!!!! I'd love to see some pictures!!! Especially of the drawers you fashioned for your dies!!! You absolutely found systems that work for YOU! And that is the key to success!!! Way to go!
@@TheCraftyOrganizer Thank you😀 I would love to send you some pictures....how would I go about sending pictures thru a RUclips message....and, I'll try to do that.
I just experienced this on Shalae 's channel yesterday. I will let her know. It was supposed to be an answer to a P-ebt post. Thank you for the information. Truly a GOD thing that your post would jump out at me this morning! God Bless you!
I have followed your channel long enough to have heard these tips before. However...I may not have actually "heard" them, because I wasn't in a receptive frame of mind at the time. Thanks for the reminders. As I sat listening to this video, I have been mentally organizing some things and will do them immediately after the video ends!
You have been with me for a long time.... I appreciate that so much. There are so many things in my life that I have heard multiple times - yet, whatever time it is - it eventually give me that, "OH!!!" moment. :) I love when that happens.
Wow, thanks for the realty check. I stood in my craft room and thought,,this is out of control. I LOVED the date tip. I have a ton of things that need to go.
These tips made so much sense. I have a huge problem with starting , and not finishing, many projects and my sewing room becomes a stressful place to work in so I’ll try the timer method and also try to plan better. Thanks for this, I think it’ll help a lot. 🥰
The cookie sheet idea is fantastic! I usually make many quilt tops but when I get "stuck" on, for instance, what type of border to make, I'll put it away until inspiration hits. This is the perfect solution! Thank you.
I have made everyone of these mistakes!!! After watching your RUclips I definitely look at my space and storage differently! Thank you for all the great tips and tricks!
OUTSTANDING tips, Norrine! I just bought a really nice multi-drawer, rolling cart from Michaels, unpacked it, and said, "Now, WHAT should I put in here?" Yikes! I like your use of zones, the idea about being your own personal assistant, and putting dates on things. Thanks for a GREAT video!
I’ve been working my way around the house, slowly decluttering. I’m leaving the craft room til last because I know that will be the hardest room to do. For a long time I thought I needed to find a way to fit in more storage but recently I realised that I have enough (maybe even too much) storage already. The problem is having too much stuff… just in case. Your tips should help me make a more realistic job of organising the room when I eventually get to it. Thanks.
Thank you for your video. You have given me so much to think about as to organising my sewing room. Most of your tips relate to organising this room which needs it badly as I have a habit of putting things in little containers then forget them so I buy more and end up with these tucked away all over the room
I don’t think I saw something I have see before, However, the presentation was very well organized & concise. I plan on implementing the zones idea. Thanks!
Great video! I am pretty organized and use many of the tips, except…I keep things for years and years! I have fabric scraps from the seventies in my stash! What am I thinking??🤦🏻♀️Time to reevaluate!! Thanks
It's hard!!! I have used an item that I've held on for years and been happy I had it.... the tie breaker on keeping it or letting it go comes down to space. If you don't need the space, and still think you'll use it..... then it's not hurting anything. But if you are tight on space, let it go. :D
I do all sorts of fiber arts and it wasn't until I started slow stitching and using different types of that I realized the way I stored various threads was crazy. It was all put away by the craft I used it for. I bout a three tier rolling cart and any thread I owned went on it. Sewing thread, bobbins, embroidery floss, perle cotton, crochet thread etc. I have several sewing machines and I no longer have to keep thread at each, just pull up my cart. If I want to slow stitch I can roll my cart to any room.
I have finally got around to organizing my craft stuff. So far I have cricut, cardboard and wood all separated. I do well with the bigger stuff but struggle with the smaller supplies. I will try to remember not to micro organize. Thank you so much for your videos. They really help.
Thanks for the tips. Especially the one with if you only have one hour, set your timer for 45 minutes, so you have time to put things away. Great point! Love your Channel
I leave myself notes too but never thought of doing if for things I’ve given away - that’s brilliant. I like your cookie sheet idea for projects. Thank you!
Are you kidding, this highlighted my situation! Right now I am creating art projects and I find being disorganized is like driving while pushing the brake petal! I think the most effective idea is having what I need out and the rest put in categories!
Hey Norrine, great advice today there is a couple I need to learn lol thank you. I just donated 2 tubs to a senior citizen home in my area, they do crafts to entertain the patients. All my yarn stash, crochet needles, extra scissors, craft papers, and my too big glue stash got sold on market place. Lots of crafters around my area it went fast, I was able to buy a desk I needed. I'm learning. lol Ps medical problem getting better.
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you. You said just what I needed. I am reorganize my living room. Where my books and my craft area. I live in a 2 bed room apartment. I am almost finished with my books. And have some decor to keep in storage and donate. Then the craft area. Putting like things together is exactly what I need to do then I will know what kind of craft storage I will need. And a work space. Please Stay Safe, Happy And Healthy. Have A Wonderful Day
Thank you for this! When you suggested writing notes to yourself about where extras are, and putting dates on those items you felt sure you'd use someday, I thought "brilliant!" I already use zones and several of your tips, but your post definitely included new ideas to try.
I've experienced every one of these! Let me know which one you are still working on!
Hi Norrine☀️☕️I’m still working on Zones 🥰Have a safe n great day
My sign on my craft room says "Thinking of a master plan". I've been there, done that...lots!
Thank you so much for all your ideas! I am inspired by your crafty tips, but also by you personally. Have a great day!
Just “THANK YOU”! Appreciate your honesty and humor. “I could” has changed to “will I live long enough”😅 M🍀
You are so welcome
A lot of this I had learned some of this new a light bulb moment
I have also learned how to make little drawers and other storage hacks as well as other tips
I'm also extremely spoiled crafter with a whole room dedicated to crafting
I also use it as my office
I love 💖 if
A few years ago I decided “could” was a trigger word for me.
So smart!!!!!!!
Aaaaaaamen!!!
OH MY GOSH! This makes me so happy!!!!! Good for you! Thank you so much for sharing your success story! 💜
I'm already a pro. I scored 100% . Yay, an A+. I am already doing everything you said NOT to do.
YAY!!!!! 🏆 Way to go, Debbie!!!!!! 🎉 :)
So funny!
Truth! 🙋🏻♀️
Rofl. I intend to do all the right things but I haven't actually done them yet. So I guess we are in the same boat.
@@linedancergal yep, Good intentions........
Great tips! Many I already use but the Dollar Tree tray one was a new one to me. Love it! I enjoy your videos very much...thank you!
So me! Buying organizers! Ahhhhhhhhhh!
Right? Why are some of them so cute and tempting! LOL
@@TheCraftyOrganizer the pretty ones call my name!
Thank you for your inspiration!
They may, or may not.... I have one child who is like me and feels better with things organized, and one child who enjoys chaos. LOL
So this is a bit odd but I was buying things I did not need thinking I might craft with them because I saw someone haul them. Then started watching someone who crafts with junk. It inspired me so much and now I’m on a mission to only use what I have and not make something perfect but make something beautiful to.
I reached "critical mass" and purged until I was at "useable mass," ha ha ha.
I love that, Asddsa28!
Great advice! Boy, do I have some purging to do!
@@user-mv9tt4st9k exactly! That's where I am! Critical Mass!
Yep. I'm at critical too. But thanks to this video plan to get organised and hopefully before mid December
Wow. Just wow.
Thanks!!
Right??? I enjoyed the validation when I went through my organizing courses to know I already was doing it all. :D
Your tips on NOT micro-organizing (which I had seen on a previous video as well) are literally the best ideas I've ever heard, seen or watched! I have definitely transformed the way my craft room is organized because of your channel. Thank you.
Wow!!!! I'm so glad! Thanks, Donna!!!!
@@user-mv9tt4st9k Me too! Glues were something I struggled with but now they all play nicely in the same box lol.
@@user-mv9tt4st9k i do mixed media, so I have a ton of adhesives - but a tiny room so not enough space to consolidate them all in one container.
Wow, Toni!!! Thank you so much! Happy to help. :D
Agreed!
Label, Label, and Label some more!!! Oh, and did I mention LABEL!!!!!! 😂😂🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️
YES!!!! Labeling makes it all come together - and easy to find and put away!!!! Thanks, Marsha!
That part of breaking everything down and having it scattered is the part that makes most people crazy but it is an ugly necessary step that gets you to the final stage of organizer.
Agreed. I find it soothing to do..... LOL I know, I know. I am a bit strange.
It seems we a.ways have to make a mess to clean up a mess.
Finally, someone who understands the chaos! You give me hope!! Love the sticky notes.
My frame of mind is totally different when I walk into my space and it's messy vs. when it's neat.
I agree! I think it is the same as doing my dishes in the evening so I get up to a clean kitchen. A much more pleasant way to start my morning (or my next craft project).
The first is me for sure and I told my husband I need to know what I have before I buy more storage items.
It really does make a huge difference!!!! Let me know how it goes!
That's a great tip! You're basically creating a 'kit' for yourself! I think that is an amazing idea!
I have a handbag and a carasol I use for organisers
Thanks so much for advising me about ZONES, everything else has fallen into place, now all I have to do is put it into zones so I know where to look for my items.
Happy to help!
That’s a really good idea!
I've had many a "oh no" hurried cleaning sessions. I shove it all in one box - so that I know where anything that I can't find is..... the hard part is putting everything in THAT box away. Tell your husband I like his idea!
@@TheCraftyOrganizer That’s actually a good idea! I’m definitely going to do that this time!
Great ideas! Going to get my husband to watch this to store his tools!
Nice!!!! Let me know if you need more specific ideas. :)
Oh my goodness... I have heard Adam Savage describe that tip and I thought "That is what I do with many stored items." If I move it, I lose it.
Smart!
I forgot to mention that your cookie sheet idea is absolutely game-changing--so simple and so perfect!
You are so good!!!! I struggle with that!!!! LOL
Excellent tips. Thanks. Now to implement.
You've got this!
You have just described my craft room and my life to a tee. Also I want to say thank you so much for the kind words you sent to me in regards to my son a few months ago. You are a very sweet and thoughtful person💜
Thank you, June. The offer still stands. 💜
I think I need to keep watching this video over and over ,some great tips ,thank you
Thank you so much!!!!!
I wish I'd had you in my life eight years ago lol😜
OH NO! LOL Well, I am here now. :D
Good job kid! You are wonderful to share your self with the world.
Thank you so much!
I love this video! Superbly thought out! I discovered long ago that when my life feels overwhelmed I can usually glance around and see that organization has become a problem . Tackling these problem areas with GREAT tips such as yours are what gets me back on track and clear thinking. Thanks so much for sharing your skils!
Love that! So glad to help. :D
I loved the idea of zones. Will use. Many thanks
Yay! Glad it was helpful!
Oh wow! GOOD LUCK!!!!! :D
Sooo happy I found your channel! The ‘just say no’ to buying organizing bins and boxes tip is just what I needed to hear.
I am so glad!!!!!
Now... I don't know about you ... Everytime I get rid of something.... throw it out... Or donate it... I realize a day or two or a week later.... I needed that!!!😜
It's happened to me a few times - but I can usually come up with an acceptable substitute with an item I still have pretty quickly. LOL :D
Hello. I love tip 8. So genius
Thanks, Kari!!!
I'm glad it was helpful!
So smart, M 3! :)
I came across your video whilst looking for something else. Boy, did I need this. You described me perfectly!! Thank you.
Welcome, and glad you liked it!!!! :D
The baking sheets stacked for WIP's is my favorite idea. But you had so many good ideas!
Yay! So glad you liked them!!! Thank you!
Money, too!.....alot cheaper than Iris cases.
Mine, too(sorry, my phone has a mind of it's own.)
@@kimberlywalker1015 hi. What r iris cases?
@@amyfouts9781 Hi Amy,
They are square plastic cases with a lid....that can house 12×12 paper/cardstock....or, any other craft supply.
Glad it was helpful. Thanks for watching!
You just said the BEST part of being organized!!!! "The more organized I am the more fun time I have." So true!!!!!
Thank you so much!♥️
How exciting!!!!! Let me know when you get your channel up and running!!!!! :D
I love the idea of using a couple cookie sheets to store those unfinished projects! What a great idea! I definitely struggle with the micro-organization. It's just how my brain works. But then it backfires b/c I want it so super organized that it gets overwhelming and I end up not getting it organized at all.
YES. Getting overhwelmed with the organizing project is my issue, too. I have done all of the little things and the big ones are now upon me.
Yep - it's ok to have things broken down... but they still need to be together, so that you can find them. :)
The cookie sheet idea is life changing!
LOL.
This is so relatable
I share these all from experience! LOL Thanks for watching.
Win-Win!
@@TheCraftyOrganizer great idea. I forgot about those groups. 🌞

Your "Cookie Sheet" idea is THE BEST use of a cookie sheet ever! I think this will work for me. Thank You.
I'm so glad!!!! Thanks for being here with me, Kathi!
Yea! ☺️👍✅
That's awesome, Denise!!!! And yes, they are easy to find at thrift stores! Way to go!
Wonderful tips. The four that will help me right now: create zones, no micro organizing, not leaving as is, and no over buying! Lordy!
I am glad they will help!!!! I'm here rooting for you!!!
Thank you for the video.
Thanks for watching, Jen!
Micro organizing and not putting things right away.
I have been consciously working on this.
xoxoxo Is that little closet still working for you?
Your tip on making zones is brilliant. I’ve never thought of comparing my crafting space to my kitchen. Just that simple example made it so easy for me to “get” how to this within my crafting room. The other tips were great as well, this was simply the tip that made me go, yes I can do that straight away. Thank-you so very much, oh and I love all your videos 💖
I liked the zones idea, too. I have a "desk behind stuff" that I need to organize that way.
Yay!!!!!! I am so glad I could help!
The “Be your own assistant” idea will save me hours of searching. Thanks.
AGAIN.😁
I am in the same boat. I organize for a LIVING - and I need to purge my own space. LOL So, be gentle with yourself.... you are not alone. 💜
OMG.
Keep me posted!!!! My garage storage area is my problem area.... LOL
I am always so happy when I find a note telling me where something is from my past self. LOL
Thank you, my friend!!! Hope you are doing well. xoxox
These are some great tips, especially the one about dating projects and supplies. Love your channel!
Thank you!
LOL Yes!!!! I am happy to be that goofy aunt that gives unsolicited helpful advice. 😊
This is so much what I need as I have just got to get my craft room under control!!!! I noticed I had this saved and yet half of it seemed brand new. I am that ADD person who is the scarecrow always losing my straw and stuffing it back in. LOL
Needed these reminders. I have to declutter again before I Christmas decorate. Love you, Norrine!
Do crafters ever stop decluttering? 😂
Not if they are still crafting! LOL
I know!!!! I need to get Fall and Halloween taken care of before I make the Christmas explosion! LOL
That cookie sheet WIP idea is GENIUS.
Yay! So glad you liked the idea!
LOL Glad you've honed in on your favorite crafts as well. xoxox
Excellent tips, I have to purge often, I craft with recycle items and it builds up fast.
Hi, Arlene! I do too.... every new season I take a look at what I have and donate what I am NOT using to the Disabled Artists Foundation 💜
Great tips here.
I just finished reorganizing the garage which includes my crafting space and finished about 5 this morning ....finally... YAY!!
The container method is so valuable.... I had set up three rules for myself when I went out to organize this time and they are as follows:
1) Streamline, everything.
2) Easy in
3) Easy out
Numbers two and three could probably work as sub-points but you get the idea.....
So I began with pulling "one item" at a time off the table and then sitting down for 10 or 15 minutes and trying to decide.... literally trying to decide, "okay, what's the next item I pull off?"
Each time, I cajoled myself thinking, " I can always put it back if it doesn't work."
Interesting enough....
I can honestly say that this was the biggest advantage (this time)
"Clearing that table!😀😀😀"
I open the door to go out to the crafting space and already I'm feeling creative...
The shelving unit SUDDENLY took on new life!😀
I now was replacing wooden block stamps ....used occasionally...with items....I use all the time....inks....LOVE USING INKS....my other markers....Cricut cartridges....YES...I still use and LOVE THESE.....
Applicators....block to add makeup sponges, too.
I LOVE IT!!!!
I KNEW I had come upon the right answer for this furniture piece...when I found myself already using those supplies WHILE I was organizing!
I have to add one more note:
I FOUND IT!!!😀....
IT'S TAKEN ME MONTHS to figure out another system....for all my cutting dies....I FOUND IT!!!😀
Looking at my paper organizer, one day, ...you know the kind...6 iris drawers ...I LOVE these...I love paper flat....that's my quirk....I know it's not everyone's. ...but, its mine.
Way to go!
@@TheCraftyOrganizer Thank you😀
I would love to send you some pictures....how would I go about sending pictures thru a RUclips message....and, I'll try to do that.
I just experienced this on Shalae 's channel yesterday. I will let her know. It was supposed to be an answer to a P-ebt post. Thank you for the information. Truly a GOD thing that your post would jump out at me this morning! God Bless you!
So glad it was helpful!!!! xoxoxo Please visit again.
Absolutely will
I have followed your channel long enough to have heard these tips before.
Consider me your personal cheerleader and giver of suggestions! 💜
The cookie sheet idea is fantastic! I usually make many quilt tops but when I get "stuck" on, for instance, what type of border to make, I'll put it away until inspiration hits. This is the perfect solution! Thank you.
I struggle with the projects to do “someday”.
I know!!!! I do too.... We need to have a national "craft day". LOL
@@TheCraftyOrganizer YES!!
I keep finding them while I am organizing!
@@user-mv9tt4st9k 😂. Most of mine are in containers…. This winter during the ❄️ .
I really liked your video on organizing your craft space. It will be very helpful.
I have made everyone of these mistakes!!! After watching your RUclips I definitely look at my space and storage differently! Thank you for all the great tips and tricks!
I made them all too!!! Which is how I've learned. LOL :D
Thanks.
You've got this, Lora!!!!!!!! It's hard to purge, but so liberating to get to use your space again!!!!
Exactly! I'm totally ready to put all my fabric and craft items out for a curb alert and start fresh!
Thank you for your video. You have given me so much to think about as to organising my sewing room. Most of your tips relate to organising this room which needs it badly as I have a habit of putting things in little containers then forget them so I buy more and end up with these tucked away all over the room
You are not alone... I've done that... and so have most of my clients!!!! Glad I was able to give you a few ideas you can use! :D
OMG. This is me. 😳
That's ok!!! I know these.... because it was me too! 💜
If all else fails, look to see how they are set up in the stores and organize similarly!
Thanks for the tips. Especially the one with if you only have one hour, set your timer for 45 minutes, so you have time to put things away. Great point! Love your Channel
Thank you, Joan! :D
I leave myself notes too but never thought of doing if for things I’ve given away - that’s brilliant. I like your cookie sheet idea for projects. Thank you!
Thanks, Jackie!!!!
The baking sheet one is PURE GENIUS !!!
Why, thank you!
Very timely, just wish I'd seen it before I bought a load of storage items online......
That's ok!!!! You'll know how to use them after you break down your supplies. :)
Are you kidding, this highlighted my situation! Right now I am creating art projects and I find being disorganized is like driving while pushing the brake petal! I think the most effective idea is having what I need out and the rest put in categories!
I'm so glad it is helpful!!!! I'm rooting for you!!!
YAY!!!!!!! You made space, got a desk, AND made others happy!!!! Way to go, Dee!!!!!
Have A Wonderful Day
Yay!!! Let me know how it goes! I'm happy to offer suggestions whenever I can. :D
Thank you for this! When you suggested writing notes to yourself about where extras are, and putting dates on those items you felt sure you'd use someday, I thought "brilliant!" I already use zones and several of your tips, but your post definitely included new ideas to try.
Glad it was helpful! I love finding help from past me!!! LOL
