Though this is clearly not nearly as hard as say…walnut, oak, hickory…1200-1800 It’s still well above pine/Douglas fur/cypress that’s batting about 390-420 janka hardness. Understanding of how energy in this particular wise transfers allows the spectator to understand the “magic” comes from the length of the staff…. Swinging the staff fast and hard enough to break is the “magic” … Had the staff not broken 😞 Ouch! !! But at over 500 janka hardness it’s still QUITE impressive! For both parties involved !

Studies have been done on electrical fields of the body and what it can withstand. But Monks are very private and these techniques they don't want outsiders learing or being studied which would be beneficial to all us who are martial artists
Actually their is a trick, the point of impact of stick is comes closer when he hit, so long part of stick is free to rotate around the stomach and force+inertia break the stick.

I would be very interested in a description of the process that he went through here in preparation just before the strikes. Was he channeling qi/chi? Pushing it to specific areas of his body? Visualizing anything in particular?
it's a physics trick, the momentum is in the tip of the staff, it breaks because it's basically a lever. he's being struck with the slowest moving part of the staff

From my own experience I wouldn't say they are stupid. There is so much ignorance, blind faith, cult-like behaviour, strong ego and other factors who can cloud the judgement of even the smartest people.
Notice they always hit with the middle rather than the end, so the energy has someplace to go by breaking the wood and the movement of the broken piece traveling... a gross inefficient energy transfer. It is all but a trick.
He is very strong. But if you hit him in the middle of the stick then you will break the stick in haft But if you hit him with just before the end of the stick then you will break his ribs. You can see most of the kungfu demonstration they only hit in the middle of the stick just to break the stick but they didn’t try to hit by the end of the the stick.

No need, at this point he's already had years of iron shirt and hard qigong training, his skin is nearly as thick as a goodyear tire. This takes YEARS to get crazy thick skin and tissues like this, working from iron brush, than getting punched, than cudgels, than staffs(with lots of jow linaments, before and after training). It's one of the sections from the full iron body manuel.

I had a hockey stick broken over my back & shoulder like that during a game which resulted in a bench clearing brawl when I was younger. The only difference was that, I didn’t have the time to do all of that ‘physique pumping’ prior to being hit. Lol. I wonder what that would look like on the ice, if players had to go through such a ‘pre fight’ work up. Who knows it might result in some new sport. Maybe there wouldn’t be any fights... Lol. Kind of reminds me of lizards pumping up their colored throats in some egoic parade before fighting for females. I did once see a guy take off his jacket & roll up his sleeves up after a game, when confronted in the parking lot. It ended with the other guy loosing a bunch of teeth, but, not uncommon among hockey players of old. My guess is his teeth could have used some of that ‘specialized training’ or a mouth guard.
