  • Review of the Goruck Dyneema GR1 which takes the slick aesthetic and quick access pocket from the Heritage GR1’s and adds in an ultramodern fabric to create one of the most epic minimalist EDC bags I have had the chance to check out. If you missed out on the GRX1 Collaboration between Carryology and Goruck, then this is the one for you!
    What do you think of the new Dyneema collection? What do you think is the best fabric for a bag?

      Hey Dean! Yes a sample was provided for the video and I agree the weight on this is an improvement over some of the other models I’ve checked out and still feels rock solid!

    Its interesting they went with flaps instead of the aquagaurd zippers. Maybe they preferred to have a smoother pull w/ the dyneema material. Dyneema is the most waterproof fabric you can probably get outside of straight vinyl or rubber, so I guess the flap lets zero water in as opposed to the aquagard which may let a little seep in. I have a Dyneema Defy bag and I love it, I like it more than xpacs, it just feels smooth to the touch and its slides so its good for like slings, its light too. I'll keep my eye out for this one.

    • @GatorAidMedical

      glad they didn't use aquaguard. Terrible hand feel and not as crispy as plastic YKKs

      @Ellman1231 9 месяцев назад

      How do you like your Defy bag? I hear a lot of good things about them, but their back panel (like with GoRuck bags) seems like it's got very little ventilation.

    • @928ruf
      @928ruf 9 месяцев назад +1

      The flaps are very often blocking the zippers so you have to pull them back. You have to know it’s not the same smooth zipper opening as the other Goruck I owned.

    • @jonuiuc
      @jonuiuc 9 месяцев назад +2

      @@Ellman1231 I have a defy insidious sling in dyneema. It’s a sling so padding would just add extra bulk, I prefer it’s as light, slim, and smooth gliding over the clothes as possible. It’s not like a backpack where you’d have a heavier load pressing on the same spot on your back. That said the shoulder strap is the single best shoulder strap I’ve ever used. It’s strange the Defy looks plain and boxy, but it’s my most comfortable bag on body, and I own a lot of bags by aer, boundary supply, etc that are known for comfort.

    • @dannypacks
      @dannypacks  9 месяцев назад +2

      Thank you for watching! Although the flap can sometimes get in the way it does feel like a good balance of easier zippers vs aquaguard and still offering a good amount of protection. Haven’t had a chance to check out defy bags, but I’ve heard great things!

    What do you think of the XPAC, heritage and original GoRuck for durability? Will heritage last with rough daily use?

    • @dannypacks
      @dannypacks  8 месяцев назад +1

      Thank you for watching! All feel rock solid and it does feel like the heritage will be able to handle serious daily use although I would still have a little more piece of mind with xpac and Dyneema in the rain. The original 1000d still feels like the most durable imo but just takes a long time to break in and feel really comfortable

  • @mcb882

      Thank you for watching and I’m glad the video was helpful!:) definitely a tough choice, in general the dyneema feels more durable and it holds its shape better but I lean towards the robic version because I like the more subdued appearance, the fact it doesn’t have the crinkle sound and that the bag feels more broken in right away

      @dannypacks  9 месяцев назад +1

      Thank you for watching! This is always a tough one for me to answer😅 I really love both bags overall, if I had to pick one I suppose I would lean towards the gr2 as it will provide some additional space and flexibility for travel, but for edc I tend to reach for the gr1 more as the additional compartment on the gr2 does make it feel a little bulkier (it’s not terrible and will feel better as it breaks in)

      @@JaimeBlanco666 I picked up the GR2 26L in Dyneema and I’m happy with the purchase, the additional storage pockets make it more convenient when needed. Some people talk about the concerns with Dyneema but as a avid hiker with a Dyneema Back Pack from HMG with over 600 miles of use I’m happy with the fabric. As the GR2 will only be used in and around the city or simple weekend trips. Take care and hope you have a great weekend, and enjoy your next purchase.

    What do you think of the GR1 Dyneema vs ULA Dragonfly Ultra? Which would you get?

    • @JustFluxz
      @JustFluxz 9 месяцев назад

      I havent used my Dragonfly yet but i test packed with it. Its 30L so its bigger than either GR1. It packs so much better while using peak design packing cubes and the internal comrpession straps. The goruck bag *probably* is more durable based on the feel, type of fabric, and amount of padding, but if you are mostly using it for point A to point B instead of going through rough environments, i wouldnt be worried about the Dragonfly. Mind you, the ultra fabric is supposed to be quite durable. I do wish the straps and backpanel had more padding but its not uncomfortable when packed out. Coming from a GR2 26L, i definitely appreciate the lighter weight as the GR2 was about 4 or more pounds empty.

    • @bamahabir
      @bamahabir 9 месяцев назад

      That was my thinking as well. This GR1 looks nice but compared to the Dragonfly Ultra which is lighter, more versatile, and significantly cheaper I can't justify getting the GR1 over it. I do like the look of the GR1 though, and I'm sure its built well as GoRuck built their reputation on making gear that lasts forever, but doesn't seem worth it to me.@@JustFluxz

      @dannypacks  9 месяцев назад

      Thank you for watching! Like justfluxz said, the dragonfly will be a bit larger and lighter, I haven’t had a chance to test out the ULA bags yet (they sell out so quick!) but I’ve heard great things from everyone that has them. Seems like if weight or additional space is important the ULA would be a good alternative

    I have purchased the original GR1 Guerilla limited edition Carryology collab and have to admit being unhappy to see Goruck launching almost the same backpack 2 years later.
    I will not purchase anymore any collaboration Goruck will make, it’s not honest.

    • @DaemonViews
      @DaemonViews 9 месяцев назад +4

      You are mad that you paid more or that it lost some value?
      Evergoods did the same with the ctb.
      Why only deliver to scalpers or the few when a concept is super popular?

    • @928ruf
      @928ruf 9 месяцев назад

      Because the purpose of a collaboration is to have 2 teams trying to upgrade a product with a limited run of production.
      In this case, even though it’s not exactly the same bag (no orange lining inside) Goruck have done almost the same bag.
      I don’t care about the value as I have no plan to sell my bag, just to say that if you do a Collab thing with some kind of exclusivity, what all bags enthusiast loves, then don’t launch the same bag.

    • @DaemonViews
      @DaemonViews 9 месяцев назад +3

      @@928ruf Why does it have to be like this?
      There is nothing that says a collab has to be like that.
      Imo a collab is where, like you said, 2 companies work together to create something new, with a result taking both companies ideas in mind. For me, not aiming at an upgrade, because why would Goruck or evergoods make the original in the way they did then? It should take into account both companies views and create something unique.
      If this happens to be super successful, why would you, as a company, not think about implementing something similar in your line-up?
      It's not the same bag. But apparently people liked the option.
      Every reviewer kept saying that they should make it and they probably got tons of emails.
      According to you, everyone that wanted a CTB26, a bag so popular that it has run out of stock every time, should have just ffed off because it was originally a collab?

    • @928ruf
      @928ruf 9 месяцев назад

      @@DaemonViews It’s the principle of limited edition of these collaborations and it’s not just working with backpacks…
      Products are co-developed in a limited run, to be more desirable, it’s marketing.
      Afterwards I understand that these brands are seeing that this product is popular (maybe more than what they were expecting) and would like to “mass produce” it.
      This to respond to the market needs and make money….this will badly impact their future collaboration (and as well their marketing strategy) their customers will wait.
      I have understood, I’m waiting for the Evergoods CPL Heritage that will surely arrive in a few months, it will be the copy of the recent Griffin that I have decided not to purchase.
