    Use this simple yet very effective warm-up exercise to expand the vocabulary of your students.
    Pick a word and create a word web that maps out the new word. Here is what you can put in each cloud around the target word: 1) meaning, 2) part of speech, 3) pronunciation, 4) translation, 5) sentence, 6) collocations, 7) category, 8) synonyms, and 9) antonyms.
    Word webs help your students organize information and learn and remember new vocabulary words. Use them as a warm-up activity in your class and you will see that your students will have a much better understanding of what the new word means.

    Hello, teacher Val! Thank you very much for your videos! They are really helpful to me as I'm not an experienced teacher. Could you, please, answer my questions? I ca't understand. Makeing a word web seems to be very time consuming. So, you have to spend quite much time to make even 1 word web with 1 word. So, can it be used for learning many new words? And is it possible to use the technique on a lesson?

    Hey Teacher Val. I really enjoy this video u made. It’s very instructive n helpful. Currently I’m an English teacher working in a public high school in China. As u might know, reading comprehension is a big essential part in high school English teaching. And it’s also a predominant part in the college entrance exams in China. So I’m wondering in what way is better to teach high school students on reading comprehension. I’d very much appreciate it if u could give me some instructions

    • @Teacher-Val
      @Teacher-Val  2 года назад +2

      Thank you very much! What city are you from? I can't answer your question in a few sentences because I need to see the books you are using to give a meaningful response. Your students need to develop the reading skills that will enable them to not only comprehend texts in English or pass the exams, but also obtain what they need to deliver a written/oral response. The following reading strategies usually help: previewing, contextualizing, visualizing, Q&A sessions, summarizing, skimming, scanning, paraphrasing, etc.

      @@Teacher-Val Hi Val, you are the expert, ive been teaching kids only 3 months; BUT my opinion: (1) draw Big smiley face on board, (2) draw a vertical line, (3) ALONG LINE, write HAPPY half way; Above: very happy, and top: bliss. Below: sad, bottom: cry. (4) depend class small or big, design activity: teacher show MANY pictures (b-day cake, Disneyland, rainy cloud, baby elephant fall in a hole) and students rank them on the ”happy-ometer”

      @@kevtherev8194 Sounds like a great warm-up for the little ones. Word webs, however, are aimed at the higher level students.
