    I love cockatiels so much! I've been seriously wanting one for around 3 years now, but I'll be getting a second budgie first so Indi has a friend of his own species and won't harass the cockatiel! I really love cinnamon whiteface pearls! They're absolutely gorgeous, I'm hoping to get a female and call her Fern :)

    Oh my god. Those scales are ingenious. I really need you guys to help me with my training for my cockatiel. He was a stray brought into the veterinary practice. I've learnt so much already from yours and Sophies videos but I sometimes get a little stagnant.

      Hey Meg,
      Thank you! There are so many inventive solutions to scales we've seen, this is just one we use!
      Regarding training, what kind of help do you need? General advice we are happy to give in comments etc.
      If you need some really specific one on one advice you could book a consult with us, or we have more specific training topic videos on our Patreons!

      @@TheParrotTeacher Probably with socialisation. I've had him since July and I think we've done reasonably well but he still hates hands/fingers. I think I just need a little bit of refocus and confidence with perseverance. I've treated him In a similar way to the rescue cats and dogs I've had but there are some bird specific areas I need help with. I'll definitely look into the consultations. Thank you for your quick response. 😊

    Hi I've been interested in a cockatiel for awhile but now I'm having second thoughts, I'm torn between budgies and cockatiels could you please do a pros and cons of different bird species for a video?

    • @TheParrotTeacher
      @TheParrotTeacher  2 года назад +1

      Hey there,
      That is a video I could do (as I’ve had them in the past) but as I don’t currently have budgies so it’d be tough to film decent footage for a good comparison!!
      Budgies are a fairly different type of parrot. Much smaller, very very active, arguably more noisy but with all the pros and cons of larger birds!
      I’d just go with what you feel you like most and can look after best!

      @TheParrotTeacher  3 года назад +2

      Hey Tantan, who did you buy it from? You really need some advice from an experienced breeder or vet if they aren't eating.

    We have a male pet store budgie and he really only likes me. Doesn’t like my kids though they want him to love them. Thinking of adding a cockatiel since I hear they can be better with bonding to more than one person and hopefully my kids can give the cuddles and scratches they so want to do with the budgie and can’t. Would you recommend a female or male cockatiel in terms of temperament and being loving? Talking isn’t a deal breaker. Only worry with females I have heard is the egg laying. We would go with a breeder who hand tames to get our best chance at the kids bonding with a young Bird for life but not sure if we should go with a male or female.

    • @TheParrotTeacher
      @TheParrotTeacher  3 года назад +2

      Hey Rasha,
      Have you had your little one do any training with the budgie? Target training could be a good first step to building your budgies bond with your kids. You could also have them find out his fave treat and give it to him lots (millet is usually a good shout for most budgies)
      Both male and female cockatiels can be very affectionate and bond with humans equally well. I've had both and noticed no real difference in this regard. There is the issue of potential egg laying but this can be managed through hormone management/diet.
      I have lots of other videos on cockatiels that might be worth taking a peek at!

      @@TheParrotTeacher thanks! Another question-
      Budgie poops are easy to cleanup. Usually solid unless they drink water. Is a cockatiels poop similar but just bigger or always runny like a pigeon poop? I have a budgie and want a tiel but worry about very liquidy poop all over the house for sanitary reasons.
      Also do you find the distiness from own cockatiel that much dustier for your house?? Or not so bad? Birds are in the living room by a window looking out to the pool so not in anyone’s bedroom

    • @TheParrotTeacher
      @TheParrotTeacher  3 года назад +2

      @@rashasarandah1695 Hey Rasha,
      Cockatiel poop is runnier as a rule. It varies from an easy little bit (like a budgies) all the way through to a runny poop. It does depend on their diet too!
      We have 5 parrots, so an air purifier is a must. We recommend them for any parrot owner. BUT it wouldn't be a big issue unless you lived in an enclosed space or had loads.
