Very thorough evaluation Ray. Nice setup. I personally would have used Home Depot hex head bolts to hold them down. Ha! Obviously Stan must consider you a 'Neatnick" too. Thanks for stopping by my shop. It was great to visit with you guys.
Great presentation on the different models, Ray. I love my Mod E.. Again thanks to you for stearin me to it with your video, and George at NRT for fulfilling it. I’ll send you pictures of the tilting stand I’m working on. Talk with ya later buddy.
Thanks for the review Ray. I do like tool reviews. If stuff is good enough for you, Tom, Stan, Randy, and Chuck, I am pretty sure it will be more than fine for me. Some folks just need to jump to the next video and move on.
love this setup brother and im inspired to just pull the trigger and get the Mod-E, and a tool bench and use that as my storage cause that was my best concern is the space in my garage
Thank you. For a guy like myself who only has 115v to his garage what motor (HP) would you recommend (Mod-E)? I would love to have a VFD. Under $1000 for everything would make my wife happy.
Thank you John, The motor is from automationdirect.com it's a Ironhorse 2 HP 3450 RPM 3 Phase 208-230/460 volt TEFC model # MTR-002-3BD36 its run by an VFD from eBay for a 2HP 3 phase motor. www.ebay.com/itm/1-5KW-220V-Single-phase-Variable-Frequency-Drive-VFD-Speed-Controller-AT1-1500S/254302479307?hash=item3b359be3cb:g:biIAAOSwoCtdMV6U Be sure and get the VFD that matches the HP of your motor!

Seems like the blue unit is a heck of a deal and does almost all the pro does except tilt 90 degrees. The motor on the pro sounds way better but thats a personal observation. Did you look at other makes such as Ameribrade?
The motor on the Pro Package is a Baldor, one of the best, smooth as glass! I did months of research and looked at every belt grinder on the market at that time, I choose what was the best for me and got the best bang for my buck! I feel its still to date the best grinder on the market!
@@RaysGarage Your videos of these belt grinders are great. I could see the details you speak of even before you mentioned them. I'm a hobbyist, not an income producing shop, so these are a big consideration however, when looking over the other makes, its fair to say the extra cost is well worth it for a few reasons but accuracy and solid function is just a couple reasons. Leeson motors are good too, I have one on a 12' sliding wrought iron gate and its 20+ years old with zero issues. I have Baldor bench grinders and they are much better than the competition, in fact there isn't much competition since they are far better than the others are. Your time spent investigating the many brands etc. is appreciated as you document these two Northridge Tool belt grinders. Nice to have a new shop wired and plumbed how you want it, isn't it?
My question is about the standard package vs the pro package. Correct me if I’m wrong.. the only difference in the standard vs pro is options the chassis, motor, and VFD are the exact same. Right ?
Rick Suttles Hello Rick, yes you are correct, the Mod-2 Standard package is the same grinder but does not include all the Pro Package accessories, these can he added on down the road.
I have got ur opinion on the NorthRidge grinder a couple times. I’ve decided to get the mod -2 with the baldor 2hp motor. What amp breaker would u recommend? I’m in the process of getting things ready now. I’m having NorthRidge wire it 220 volts. Any tips in this area would be appreciated. How many tooling arm lock down knobs come with the grinder? Also does the ratchet tensioner come standard on the mod-2?
Hi Rick, Great choice! I have both Mod-2 and Mod-E on a 30 a amp breaker but that is way overkill, 20 amp is more than sufficient. I use this outlet for other 240 volt machines, only reason I have it on a 30 amp circuit. I am not 100% sure but I do believe all Mod-2 Pro Packages come with the ratchet tensioner, if you are not getting the Pro Package you must request it. My grinder came with two knurled lock down handles, you can also request more if you like for a small additional fee. Feel free to hit George up with any questions, he is a great guy with lots of great information! You are going to love this grinder! Cheers, Ray
Outstanding video Ray. Really well done. So well done I bought one yesterday. Question regarding the Iron Horse motor you picked out. Is it a 2hp, 3 phase, 2 pole , 3600 Rpm, TEFC, 56C, 220 volt? If its a 2 pole motor it seems to have plenty of power and certainly will save money over a 4 pole for anyone interested. Also, where did you score that cool aluminum knob on the left hand side?
Thank you! The motor is from automationdirect.com it's a Ironhorse 2 HP 3450 RPM 3 Phase208-230/460 volt TEFC model # MTR-002-3BD36 its run by the VFD from eBay for a 2HP 3 phase motor. It does have plenty of power and belt speed is adjusted by the VFD. The knob came from my NRT Mod-2 Pro Package grinder but I'm sure George will sell you some knobs, they are really nice!
I’ve got a mod e and my 36 grit ceramic belts wobble a bit and I think it’s because of the spring on the tension arm... I don’t think it’s got enough pressure. Do you have any recommendations? I tried a 400 AO belt and it tracked really nice. Is it possibly just the belt or could it be because I took the 4 inch drive wheel off and added an iron creek 6” drive wheel?
Hi Johnny, Going from a 4" to 6" drive wheel increases the belt speed a lot so verify the tension arm is lined up with the other wheels and that it is snug but not too tight from keeping tension on the belt. if the belt continues to wobble or wonders around try a slower speed, if that does not cure the issue the belt might be bad but not likely.
It would be nice if they would at least show pictures of their products on their website. If I'm spending top dollar on a product I want to know all I can about it first and they failed at that.
@@RaysGarage Thanks but that's ok. I just ordered something else. I don't mean to sound negative but for a top end machine I would think Northridge would actually have pictures of all their attachments and a video showing how their system works. I can't just blindly spend that kind of money without knowing everything I can and I mean every last little detail. If they did that I would definitely consider one.
So much whining about seeming like a commercial. No one is making them watch it... thanks for the info. Looks like I'll have to pull the trigger on a motor and vfd finally. Thanks for helping me spend money 😂😂
@@RaysGarage I appreciate that and will probably take you up on that. I have an lb1000 right now with a 1hp motor so I'm going to order the motor and vfd for now and add the mod E soon hopefully
@@RaysGarage ok you offered so first question lol. Does the motor or vfd come with anything you need to connect them? I've never messed with a vfd and I bought my grinder used with the motor already
Tactical Pterodactyl Knives If you get the same Ironhorse motor that I got, you get just the motor, you have to wire it to the VFD, and wire the VFD with a power cord. Wait until you get all your parts to save on trips to the hardware store. You will thank me later!
