Definitely, there was nothing like this scene prior to Spiderman 2.
@@livingdream2284 after spiderman 1 it was seen that superhero movies HAD some potential and after spiderman 2 came out and took both audiences and critics by surprise it opened the door entirely for the new age of movies where we have stuff like transformers, avengers, the justice league, etc, its because of how good this movie was that it not only practically made the superhero action movie genre but set a high bar for it, it's been a decade and a half since the movie came out and the reactions haven't changed one bit, from an aging director and an amazing cast came a passion project that would set out a future for the movie genre as a whole
Nah the Matrix did all this shit before
Part of the reason this fight is so good is the constant back and forth with hero and villain both landing hits, showing fear, coming up with new plans and countering their opponent’s moves. It doesn’t just have one side beating the other as so many fight scenes seem to have these days.
Agreed the action in this movie is memorable
Unlike in most MCU fights where they just asspull like an anime
Speaking of plans and countering moves, I believe Doc’s decision to throw people and then mess up the train was his admission that he thought SM would eventually win their fight. He continued to come back after being thrown off the train, and was hitting Doc harder and more, and was adapting to try and get closer. Plus Doc usually got away only when SM was hurt or distracted in movies since SM is faster, so yet another villain acknowledging SM’s physical superiority (the first being Green Goblin: “Spider-Man is all but invincible…” and saying that SM is exceptional and a marvelous creature)
The Dark Knight trilogy might have a better antagonist but Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy have a much better protagonist

One thing I loved about Tobey’s Spider-Man is that he wasn’t afraid to throw hands with anyone!
Tobey's Spider-Man was a straight up scrapper/brawler, no doubt about that. And, arguably at least, he's also the most durable of them all, he certainly is in my humble opinion.
Tobey Peter squared tf up with Doc Ock and it's awesome.
I love the way Tobey’s Spider-Man fights. He’s always using the momentum he gets from deflecting or dealing with the damage he’s given when his opponent goes at him.
I love how he slingshots the clock arm at Doc.
@@Spingerex favorite part of that fight, he uses his momentum to throw harder punches nearly all of the time
Agreed. It was even nastier when he was fighting Sandman with the black suit on.
MCU CGI lighting and textures are more refined, but the Raimi films' fight choreography had much more back-and-forth between Spiderman and a supervillain. That's not to say the MCU Spiderman had NO tension, but look at how many times Spiderman and Doc Ock came close to defeat and how fast they move across New York.
@@reezygrizz2316 exactly!!
I have forgotten how AWESOME this fight scene was. So perfectly choereographed. No shaky cam or slow mo but everything feels fresh and dynamic. And you can follow everything that's happening. The fight made full use of their power/skill sets, not just a bunch of generic punching/ explosions. Things feel real and visceral. How is it that films these days keep getting it wrong? We want more of this stuff!
AMEN!
Not to mention their environment. Spidey using the clock hand, doc ock baiting Spidey into a train path, etc
Only problem is Ock shouldn't be able to take that many punches
@@louche2388 eh, you can say of course spiderman wasn't going all out with his punches since ock is only a human, even in the comics he comments that he has to hold back almost constantly or else he could very easily explode someones head with a full power punch to the face
@@KIN1311 true, spidey is fuckin stronger than he actually makes himself out to be. people tend to forget that lmao
What Raimi and his crew did here (the coreography; the camera angles; the excellent combination between CGI and practical effects; the amazing score balancing between suspense, fear, heroism and epicness; the writing; the flawless way of capturing both characters’ features and movements; the humanitarian side of it, showing how people feel and react inside the train) is perfection at the highest level of superhero genre.
Back when superhero movies had SOUL and not pure fireworks, mediocre scripts, horrible CGI and characters very poorly developed
And it also shows that Spiderman HAVE stay in close in order have the advantage over Doc Oc because he is an effective middle to long range fighter. Doc Oc through out this fight is constantly trying to keep Peter Parker a far distance. And when all else fails use people to keep Peter away.
Your second paragraph is what I felt when I saw No Way Home. The dialogue sounded like small talk most of the time, the scenes had no moments of memorability, dialogue was awkward at times, I understand when they're trying to have the characters relate to real life social puns but it gets annoying sometimes. In short, the second half of the movie is what made it a hit Willem Dafoe rode that one by himself lol. The Soul of the movie was missing I guess. Just my opinion.
@@muddywaters4771 No Way Home became good as soon as Toby Maguire showed up. I never liked Amazing Spider-man, but when Garfield showed up too I was happy. That says alot. The stupid Spiderboy/Ironboy direction that the Spiderman movies took drove me insane. I don't know how the reboot will save the franchise, because Marvel as a whole is rubbish now. Like you said, a whole bunch of small talk, quips, lame jokes and shallow characters. I appreciate Willem Dafoe and Alfred Molina, but their maturity and cinematic presence (I feel) was watered down due to the constant bullshit from Tom Holland (I hate this guy) and his merry band of friends. It was only when the other 2 spidermen showed up that the film got a whole lot more serious.

@@RandoGrunt or when he shoots Andrew's web shooters and uses the ceiling to boost himself
This is one hell of a fight. This will never get old. NEVER.
Best 1 v 1 fight scene in any superhero movie over the past 20 years. I will be on smoke if I get people insulting me instead of debating.
To me this fight and Cap vs winter soldier are my favorite fight scenes in all Marvel Movies.
Don't forget about Hulk 2003 vs David Banner
Definetly agreed mate
@@hugostigglitz9639 lmfao
this fight and symbiote spidey vs sandman fight are legendary
Btw, Tom Holland's Spidey couldn't even beat Doc Ock, his nano tech was the only way he stopped him. This Spiderman took Otto on fist to fist!
@Kryptoskillet I wasn't talking about this fight, genius lol. I meant ultimately he beat Doc Ock in the end but even here he gave him a real fight fist to fist. He may not have beat him here but he took him on and gave him a fight on his own without the help of tech. Just different than Holland, that's all.
In this fight it's pretty clear Peter will win when Otto hit him with a train and he brushed it off. Otto knew this and decided the only way to win was to wear him down by endangering the people
Tobey's spiderman is brute strength and durability combined.
@Kryptoskillet why u keep defending mcu spiderman? admit that he’s suck. Good they went back to the roots in the ending
@@javierf6162 okay nostalgic Raimi fanboy
2:25 ugh the music, the swinging, it’s perfect 😊
He's back baby!!! Can’t wait for Alfred Molina’s return in Spider-Man 3 😭
In the MCU
Hopefully they don't screw it up.
Here after he leaked that he was in it
Dee Dee I’ll guarantee you this movie it’s gonna be #1 box office 3 billion usd
Since Molina’s returning as this film’s Ock in the MCU with his history already shown in this film, the writers don’t have to worry about showing it in No Way Home and it allows more room for MCU Electro’s story.
Every thing about the MCU movies feels cartoonish.
Now this. This feels real. It feels raw. No mindless quips and jokes every two seconds. No drone strikes on school buses for comedy purposes. No million drones buzzing around. No million different characters. Just clean set pieces with clear direction, amping up the tension along the way.
The audience isn't bombarded with a thousand different things every second to try to vow them. The movie takes its time to build momentum.
Pure freaking tension.
Sure, these movies had jokes, but they didn’t bombard us with comedy every second
I didn't knew there were jokes when Peter was destroying drones. And mindless drones? Really that's your excuse to hate. In comics Peter fought way weird things
@@bullymaguire_005 In the comics, Thanos wanted to destroy half of the universe because he wanted to get into Lady death's pants.
Stop using the comics as a way to justify nonsense on the big screen. The comics are way too many and have way too many stupid things in them that must be changed when creating a multimillion dollar movie.
And yes. The drone attack on the school bus was one big joke. "Oh accidental drone strike on a school bus full of children. So funny. Oh time to stop it. Oh distraction. Oh somebody took his glasses. Hahaha".
I mean to say the MCU feels cartoonish is kinda false just because there are jokes which honestly you guys over exaggerated but phase 4 has been way better with the jokes
Dark and gritty was the top trend in action movies back in the early to mid 00's,now everything needs stellar vision for our stellar TV's and stellar surround sounds no matter what the story is otherwise it ain't getting my money, cause at the end of the day, were paying to watch a movie not listen to it.
The Fact that Tobey's Spider man didn even need a Armor, Partner, Tentacles or anything to Defeat Doctor Octopus.
Even today with the MCU, this is the best fight scene in a superhero movie.
MCU IS TRASH
He threw more punches than Spider-Man ever did in the amazing Spider-Man series
That's why its the best lol

There's no way doc oc could have taken those punches. I mean, spiderman has superhuman strength, doc oc only has the metal arms. If I got punched in the face by spiderman, I would have been knocked out with brain damage
Clowntrooper Spiderman isn't going to risk knocking someone out when they're teetering on the edge of a building.
It took me 16 years to realize that there is actually CGI in this scene. That's how good the CGI here is
Obviously there has to be. Tobey Maguire is not Spider-powered, never mind his obvious lack of athleticism. And they didn’t film a real fight between Tobey and Alfred Molina on top of a moving train.
I didn’t know Tobey Maguire was Spider-Man in real life
@@MRHEY He isn’t. And he isn’t Spider-Man from the comics either. Tom Holland is.

Randall Lawrence is he though?? Isn’t he fresh out of high school? He’s probably like 20 if anything.

I just saw "No Way Home", it was awesome but keeping it 💯, this is still the best Spiderman fight scene ever... 🤷♂️
STILL astonishing even now, a jaw-dropping, perfectly filmed sequence from a classic film that most would argue-including me-is the BEST Spider-Man film of ALL TIME !
This is a masterclass for an action sequence. The cheographie, physicallity, intimately, weight, look and feel is top notch!
This is groundbreaking visual work for a movie that came out in 2004. There are very few effects in this movie that have actually aged poorly.
Timeless movie
Just watched the teaser trailer for No Way Home multiple times already just to prove to my eyes that it's really dropped! So naturally I had to come and watch this beloved badass scene one more time! This scene never gets old!
I don't think Sony/Marvel will ever be able to top this Spiderman action fight, even with 200 mill worth of CGI
This movie is fantastic. The story, the acting, the scenery, everything is so well-done.
Yes!!
lmao ur funny

What?
Yeah
Who would've imagined that one of the greatest superhero film battles was just a straight up bare knuckle fistfight? The hits are still so visceral. And I love the immediate difference in body language between the hero and the villain, especially when they stood up after falling on the train. Alfred Molina really sold it as the supervillain Doc Ock. It's so good to see him back for No Way Home and it's so nostalgic to see this again. I hope they do the fistacups fight for him again. It's too good
Toby's Spiderman was a brawler. Reminds me so much of the 90's Spiderman cartoon.
Yeah I know
@@Tommybotham but 90’s Spider-Man never punched anyone in the show
@@standardperson3189 That is true, but I was referring to the fact that he was close contact regardless of power differences between him and his opponent. He was in the thick of it every single time. The spiderman from Amazing and Ironboy always seemed to fight from a distance and do "cute" shit like overcome their opponent with tricks or guile.

Tobey's Spider-Man is a brawler, taking on his enemies head on! Also his movements are so sleek and fluid that set his fighting style apart from martial arts based Superheroes!
Yeah, it’s free-style, not bound by a form or style. I think it was based off of capoeira although he could just be utilizing his acrobatics into basic brawling
