I’m closing in on my retirement and I’d like to move from Minnesota to a warmer climate, but the prices on homes are stupidly ridiculous and Mortgage prices has been skyrocketing on a roll(currently over 7%) do I just invest my spare cash into stock and wait for a housing crash or should I go ahead to buy a home anyways?

"Cotton kills." Keep dry at all times. Consider mousture-wicking footwear, etc. Layering can be fun. Good tire tread is very important. The hardest thing is the darkness. Learn to care for pets who go outside.

First time in the U.S.A. from a tropic country we landed in the middle of a blizzard. My problem was when the freezing is blowing in your face the ice enters my nose. I felt like drowning.
minesotan here we periodically hit -45 f here (depends on the year) and i recomend buying a scuba suit instead of multiple layers. stay warm. and in winter i recommend 5w 30 oil for better viscosity during the winter. but most importantly... love the winter because spring comes and goes about 12 times starting from late February to late may. we locals call it second winter so prepare accordingly. just because it was above freezing during the day today does not mean that it will not drop below freezing that night nor does it mean that it will be even warmer tomorrow. also in the fall stick a penny upside down in the tread in your tire, if you see abraham lincolns beard get new tires. also in the snow, if you stop you will keep sliding but if you give it some gas and power through your front tires will sink down to pavement and not only will you regain traction but the person behind you wont lose traction and drive into the rear end of your car. win win. also driving 10 under the speed limit in bad weather WITH GOOD TIRES is as slow as you need to go in the winter.(the best place to learn driving is on lake superior in january) good luck and god speed.

The honest truth is that you can do just fine with a good sweatshirt or a jacket and jeans unless your not moving around like when your ice fishing I work outside all winter in northern MN with just a sweat shirt or 2 on and tin pants and I never found my self needing more layers
I was born in Minnesota and lived in Shakopee all my 21 years of life. I used to hate winters but I learned to adjust and learn to love the beauty of it.
I still remember the time when I was doing my time at the Minn Air National Guard (133rd AW) and I couldn't start my car because my ignition was frozen.
As a North Carolinian 2-3 inches of snow will pretty much shutdown the whole state of NC.. I planning on visiting MN this year watch a Vikings home game vs the Packers bucket list...
The saying it’s never too cold it’s just your clothes is kind of true because with the right layering system and protective gear like face masks and goggles I’ve seen people spend days in temperature’s between negative 20 and negative 50 degrees and not have any problems.
In one video I watched about how to dress for extreme cold they gave a layering system that’s supposed to keep you warm out side in weather down to negative 50 degrees and windy.

Snow and cold is better than tornadoes, sinkholes, droughts, earthquakes, hurricanes, tsunamis, haboobs or bad hail storms or really dangerous winds, I don't consider heavy snowfall a type of natural disaster even if it is a bitch and a half to deal with and is long.
We certainly don’t have to deal with most of those, but tornadoes, hail, and the occasional flooding is something you’ll see in the state. Just rarely in the Twin Cities.
Don’t know if I could take the winter. I can’t put on enough clothes to get warm& still be able to move. It gets under 75 & I’m grabbing my jacket & putting on long pants. 🥶
Former Minnesotan/North Dakotan here of 25+ years. The last winter I spent in Fargo, got down to -57 thanks to windchill and my kids still had school. I remember that head freeze it was brutal
The winters change pretty significantly once you get into the northern 1/3 of Minnesota. Of course, Canada is pretty different after a certain point too.
The winters aren’t the worst thing in Minnesota but there’s lot more that has nothing to do with whether or the citizens, but has everything to do with the state’s politics. For that alone, as a conservative, I would never want to live there.
Interestingly enough, the state's politics have equaled a fairly high quality of life for it's residents. And you're right, the winters aren't the worst part of living here.

Living in other states I've found the same thing. You'll enjoy U.S. Bank Stadium, the atmosphere is pretty electric especially against the Pack.

You should be fine as long as the Explorer has 4WD/AWD. Getting snow tires is more for sedans.
