Still, literature seemed to help you courage your way into the world. God bless you! You ARE such nice human being to share your experience and to give courage to the literature majors. I'm greatly inspired by your humbleness and sensibility. 영어가 잘써졌는지 모르겠어요. ㅋ

    I happened to click this video, and I was just thinking Lena one time gave a lecture in English to English Literature students in Korea. Then I was about to click other video clips that appealed me more. However, suddenly she started talking about herself that she was shy not just a little, but with a great deal, painfully, which reminded me in my childhood. That caught my attention with a curiosity that "how come she became a singer with that great shyness?", and somehow I ended up listening to the whole lecture. I can tell you, I loved her talk, and enjoyed listening to every bit of it. I strongly agreed with her thought of "Following your passion" thing. Even if I am not the English major, this little cheesy thing applies to all of us. Her talk is nothing really like a serious lecture, but a great casual talk with lots of humor and joy. I like her as a speaker, as much as I love her as a singer. :)

I could not image that she was a really shy girl when she was young. She sings really with big confidence in front of big audience. This is amazing lecture that inspired me of pursuing my career towards which perspective I can bring to my work. I remember that I started to regret why I chose literature as my major in college but I could get a job by studying international trading together with other requirements such as Toeic and computer skills. Later on, I realized that things I've learned in college give me richness of how to enjoy life. In the end, I moved on to mu second career in completely different career in foreign country. My life doesn't go along with what others do but I can say my life is much more of stories and interests that get me going for pursuing my dream; happiness that will be passed along to others by sacrificing myself to whoever needs help~ Thank you Lena for your sincere lecture.

    I just wanted to check out a snippet of this video but I ended up listening to the entirety of it. When she started talking about her love of reading and being painfully shy as a child, I thought she was talking about me. Books were also my escape. This really spoke to me. I took up nursing but I think I knew in the back of my mind Literature was what I've always wanted to do. I'm a 25 year old with a bleak future and a degree I do not love. I wonder if it's too late to pursue something that could give me so much joy but no security for my future.

    • @soonieyun5707
      @soonieyun5707 9 лет назад +2

      We are living parallel lives...shy, love of reading, now a RN! My lit book is one of the few textbooks that I didn't sell besides my nursing texts because of the stories and poetry inside. Nursing is tough because it presents harsh reality and sometimes at it's hardest...like the stories you didn't want to know or read about in books. Perhaps you need a revisit to your past self and the reasons you had then for pursuing nursing to rekindle your desire (and to help in the practicality of continuing in nursing

    • @soonieyun5707
      @soonieyun5707 9 лет назад +2

      That said, I would definitely encourage pursuing your love of literature through other avenues. There are so many ways..attend classes, join a lit or book club, or even perhaps write a book yourself! Don't limit life to just having just a career and getting married. There is definitely enough time in every week to pursue and enjoy other things. I will tell u that I find nursing difficult right now as well (and this after leaving my first career in accounting) but I just keep reminding myself of my motivation to be a good nurse, despite being unappreciated sometimes by patients. The great thing about nursing is that there are many careers within it that are very different that you could look into to see if that works to bring satisfaction at work.

    • @scablet
      @scablet 9 лет назад +4

      Thank you. This really cheered me up. That's true. I should never take my profession for granted and should also have pride as a nurse whilst still enriching my love for literature.

    • @hyunsoojung8346
      @hyunsoojung8346 9 лет назад +2

      I think you should put much more effort to make the literature yours. It's not going to be easy for you to use the literature passion to feed yourself. I would rather say to you that you follow your heart but never forget to check out if you're strong enough to change your career completely. Keeping my finger crossed!

    정말 문학(English Literature)을 사랑하시는 문학도. :-) 그리고 좋은 말씀과 유머가 가득 찬 강연 재미있게 잘 듣고 갑니다. "...The humanities and literature arts are as relevant as ever. And seeing all of your bright and inquisitive faces here today, I think the humanities are better for it." "...But if I can give you one small personal hope, I hope that none of you ever lose your love of reading." Quote: I think of LIFE as a good book; the further you get into it, the more it begins to make sense.

    She started speaking really fast in the beginning, but as she got more comfortable, her speed slowed down and it was nice and I'm sure for the audience better as well to understand... [I'm the same way-- I speak really fast in front of others when I'm nervous and so I'm very aware of it and in others...]
    Anyways, very nice talk... She has such great enunciation (both when she speaks and sings)! Good to hear a story about something totally not music-related that you normally don't get to hear in her interviews... I did see her once on campus at Columbia while I was attending; she's very small (stature/height) so she's easy to spot, haha... Best of luck to you, Lena~!

    Knew that she was really good at singing through some OSTs she performed but never really listened to her in detail. She's cool here so I would listen to her a bit more now hehe. This lecture wasn't particularly intellectual (to me) but it's nice that she's assuring and inspiring people

    영어로 얘기하니 한국어로 말할 때보다 표현력이나 몸짓이 훨씬 풍부해지네요.
    어린 시절을 미국에서 지냈으니 당연하거겠죠 ^^

    I happen to be listening Lena Park's first lecture. Through this lecture, she proved that she is a seasoned lecturer. Even though I've been crazily enjoying her songs, I feel that she should have chosen to be a professional lecturer rather than being a singer^^ You know I am joking~ Well organized and powerful lecture:-)

    hmmm so i know now that Miss Havisham's Waltz is not of some master pieces from the olden times. It's wrote by a Korean composer then, titled and sung by Park, Junghyun. I listened to it for the first time watching begin again 3. I thought it was a great song, a very thetrical piece that could be a major theme song for a theatre piece. .
