Thank you for this video, it help me in getting WSJT-X an Log4OM working together. Now to get WSJT-X working good for making contacts. I was able to call CQ and people connects to me and the QSO completes. But I am not able to answer a CQ from others yet. I have a Icom 7300.
Great to hear from you and thanks for commenting. In WSJTX Settings, try "None" for Mode and then set the mode on the radio manually. That should work. 73 and good DX!
@@HamRadioAdventures Thank you so much. Will try that. So far I had to teach the radio so correct mode was in memory when I returned to each band. "The Boss" (FT-950) is getting a bit old so I don¨t expect too much from him :-). Tnx agn. Cu on the bands. 73...
Great information, new to this mode and although I have setup working great with my FT-857D I can't have Log4om using Omnirig and likewise for the 857, the rigis fine until I transmit and once that happens I lose my wsjt-x config, in other words it states I need to configure my cat controller, I'm wondering if I'm getting RF into the rig.. Any suggestions would be appreciated as I would like to have log4om configured alongside wsjt-x and GT. Thanks for sharing your videos!
It's nice to hear from you and thank you for commenting. In my camper I use the 7300 and one USB cable for CAT. I don't connect Log4OM with OmniRig and just connect WSJT-X with the USB cable. So the only program controlling the rig is WSJT-X. You don't need Log4OM connected to the radio as everything we need is supplied by WSJT-X. I hope that makes sense. Your situation sounds like RF. Does the disconnect happen only on one band or on every band you operate on? What happens when you decrease power to 5 watts? GL 73 and good DX!
Thanks for the reply Rich, I finally sorted it, the FT-857D needs to be setup a little differently.. within WSJT-X I needed to change the OmniRig PTT method too VOX and the Mode and Split Operation to both None, this sorted the issue and I have all software running as it should, I'm also using the SignaLink just incase someone else with the same setup is having issues. Thank you for your help and again thanks for all your helpful videos they really are well done and easy to follow. 73 ZL1MY @@HamRadioAdventures
I installed LOG4OM and getting everything working with my IC7300. When I switch my radio to “CW” the program produces a not transmitting “whine” on every frequency. The radio is not transmitting a carrier its just a whine. (Tone). I am stumped. When i switch to USB or any other mode it silences. I unplugged my key and nothing changes. Im stumped. It does it on all selections of input and output of the soundcard. Have to figure it out becsuse I really like LOG4Om.
I finally got Log4OM -2 going with WSJT-X and Gridtracker and JTAlert. I finished at 4am. The crazy thing about this awesome program is the manual is 239 pages and I have to admit I just scanned it, like a true ham lol. Log4OM, Omni-Rig and WSJT-X have to be “Run as Administrator” for Omni-Rig to actually share the frequency between Log4OM and WSJT-X. This drove me Bananas. I should have RTFM. 😆🤯. I took photos of the actual setup. I Will post them on my QRZ.
@@HamRadioAdventures I figured it out. With OmniRig and my 7300, if you select RTS/DTR keying selection in the OmniRig settings box with “High” instead of “Low” the radio sidetone is triggered when the CW mode on the 7300 is selected from USB-Data to CW. So I set both to “Low” in OmniRig settings screen and everything is normal now 🙌
General Question: why is it sometimes when you are working a station that station does not have a GridSpace? Sometimes i am about to hit “ok” when wsjt-x has the logging window up and there is no gridsquare.
Another great question. I have that happen sometimes and it's because they don't transmit the Grid. (They appear in a CQ). If you have lookup configured in the logbook. It should fill in the missing Grid. I hope this helps, vry 73!
I am trying out different Windows Logging Programs, like LOG4OM, HRD, and others. Each time I want to engage each program with WSJT-X and JTDX. Every time I have to change the Radio Tab settings in WSJT-X/JTDX, to correspond to that specific program. . Is there a way I can either load the FT8 software and select a “preconfigured” radio tab for each logging program? Or Can I download WSJTX/JTDX multiple times and name them differently and point to those specifically configured programs so i don’t have fiddle with all the settings. I am trying out different loggers a lot trying to help friends figure out what works best.
Great question. Look at Configuration in the WSJT-X menu. I have different Configurations. One for using "HRD" as the rig, one for using "DXLabSuite" as the rig and then one for using my CI-V cable and the Icom 7300 (or 7610) as the rig. Best 73!
One more thing: how did you managed to force software to switch trx into USB-D. I have an ic7600 and when wsjtx is on log4om switches my 7600 into RTTY-R. Only way to get around it is to choose "none" in "mode" in wsjtx settings->radio.
sq5ebm that’s a great question. Yeah Icom 7610 and the 7300 have a DATA after the model in OmniRig. There isn’t one for the 7600 unfortunately. It is the OmniRig file doing that. 73!
@@HamRadioAdventures i keep it cool... i've just started to get my XYL used to the idea that 7610 is a good rig and i neeeeeeeeeed it sooooooo muuuuch, mom! ;-) ;-) So maybe soon.
Rich, did you have any problems with having HRD and Log4OM together on same PC? I have the license for paid version of HRD but use LOG4OM. Found out that HRD has put on the 9700 for the satellite tracking which I would like to use again 73 Phil G0BVD
Hi Philip, I haven’t used HRD very much lately so I couldn’t really say. I am out camping and using Log for the Old Man on my small laptop and it is working good. I like the Winkeyer on it because the small 💻 is a celeron and gets bogged down 🥺. Take care, be safe and best 73!
Triggered to watch this tutorial because of the WSJT-X and Log4OM in it's title... I can't get anywhere an answer on this question: I use Log4OM for logging EME QSO's (for now on 23cm). Some QSO's are duplicate, which are intended....However I have difficulties to generate a list containing just the unique ones (based on the CALL)....Initial QSO's in other words. Can you be so kind and guide me a bit here? Is there a filter possible and then use the 'Generate Webpage Now' to be able to publish the list containing unique QSO's? Thank you, Gerrie, PA3EXV
@@HamRadioAdventures Thank you for reaching out on my reply. The only thing I could do in the meantime is generate a .csv output-file containing just 'CALL' and use EXCEL to remove duplicates which results in the amount of unique calls in a certain period/band, but this is not the way forward. If you have time, could you look into this, possibly using the SQL filters or other options? Gerrie, PA3EXV
After trying to configure Log4OM with WSJT-X today, I suddenly had HamLib Error messages when I started WSJT-X. Can't find the problem. Have you an idea, what it could be? Thanks for any hint.
Manfred Faeh thank you for commenting here and thank you for watching. That is usually a configuration problem in WSJTX on the radio tab. Check the COM port and the baud rate that you are using for the rig. 73!

Hi Doc, thanks for commenting. I’m not familiar with the FT857 but if you put the radio in USB mode and in WSJT-X select none for “Mode” possibly it will work. Does it work without Log4OM and using the FT857 for the rig in WSJT-X?
@@HamRadioAdventures Thanks, Richard. Yes, the Yaesu FT857 works fine with WSJT-X FT8 using DIG mode on the radio, OmiRig Set to "FT857 with right com port" The problem is the comport conflict between the two programs, and setting the WSJT-X Radio settings to "OmniRig Rig 1" does not eliminate the conflict for me. So both programs work fine with the FT857, but not together. I did manage to get it to work by opening it up WSJT-X first (establish radio connection) then Log4OM2 (offline), and now I also have GridTracker working. I can get WSJT-X to send QSOs to Log4OM2. I am just curious why the "OmniRig Rig 1" setting does not work the way it does with your setup. Thanks again for Posting this video. It seemed like such an elegant solution. 73, KC9LIF.
