This is a super quick setup guide and tips for the Sony A7IV memory recall feature. I know this is a very obvious video, but I still wanted to make it because it seems like there are a lot of new Sony users who bought the Sony A7IV.
For my movie mode custom setting, I have them set up as
1 - 4K 24fps
2 - 4K 60fps
3 - 1080p 120fps

What is your setup for your custom dials?
Thanks for the vid! For photos I have one set for flash (with shutter speed and ISO set to my go-to settings for most indoor flash scenes) and then I have two others for high-speed shooting (10 FPS 12-bit RAWs), as I usually shoot at lossless compressed 6 FPS 14-bit. I am more of a photo guy.
As for video modes, I mostly care about the pre-programmed +2 EV comp for SLOG3. But I have 3 setups, one for 24 FPS 1/50, one for 60 FPS 1/125 (both HEVC), and then another one for H.264 30 FPS 1/60. I should probably get another one with auto aperture for casual video shooting in daylight.

Adjusting these settings have been surprisingly confusing, particularly on my A73 and I found myself in many run and gun situations where I'd have settings completely wrong. Thanks for making this so easy and simple to understand! Great video!

I’d love to also set whether to use PAL or not with a custom setting.
It is crazy to me that I can’t easily switch between 25/50 and 24 frames per second

hi ! Thanks for the video, I just want to know if any solution about the white balance in MR 1,2,3 has founded ? And how you do your white balance if you are in MR1 configuration ? Thanks for the advice
A way round the white balance issue, is to use a standard mode to check the temperature for the shot, then dial it in as Kelvin, when in memory mode. Which it allows you to do. Temporarily - it is not remembered if you change to another memory. At least you will be able to recall all your other settings.
So if I understand memory recall correctly, you get 3 custom settings in Photo mode and 3 custom settings in Video mode? Thanks for all the Sony a7Iv tips.

Yes, it will also save the changes you make in PP.
Hey Michael thanks for your video, what really bothers me is that I can't set a custom white balance in MR1,2,3 I thought until I saw your video that I made a mistake.
What is your workflow to set the whitbalance correctly in MR1,2,3 ?
Probably is.. you cannot update your custom whitebalance when you are in any of the memory recall which is something that i have been complaining about.
So if I understand correctly you had to be in manual to film with correct white balance ?
Can you then go to photos and set them also on 123 if you first leave video mode and have settings on recall for both
Nice video, thanks! It is possible to change the custom WB setting in the memory presets. Maybe it was fixed in a firmware update?However, I wish it was possible to exclude custom settings like WB from the memory presets. Because now for example I have 25p on 1, 50p on 2 and dual ISO on 3… all 3 saved with a WB of 5500K… but if I’m on a shoot where I have to use let’s say 4500K WB, I have to change the WB every time I switch between memory presets.
You wont be able to reset custom wb on presets. Dont know why but thats how it is. So for hour situation, best way will be re-saving the memory with the wb you need before the shoot. Yeah it’s pretty annoying.
@@MichaelYoungKim I'm able to switch white balance on presets, leys say you are on a Custom 5500 on memory 1. Just go to the quick menu and select white balance, you can switch it using the dial that you use to change the shutter.
You can simply save different WB into the memory preset, update it.
Thank you for this - how do I delete the memory recall settings? I cannot change Exposure CTRL type and it’s because of the memory recall as you mentioned in your video - I only came across your video after the issue occurred.
No deleting. U just simply override them with different settings.
@@MichaelYoungKim thank you for responding Michael - I attempted to overwrite or I think I did but it doesn’t seem to work as some of the options are greyed out - is there a way to factory reset the camera so everything gets wiped out and brings it back to fresh setting so I can restart?
@@SuchetB this is a common mistake by alot of people. First you have to SWITCH TO normal video mode and get out ofnthe memory recall first. Then set up the camera and save the memeory.
@@SuchetB u can always reset the camera to the default camera setting from one of the menus.

I resolved the issue - I was looking at the wrong line when I thought it was in Manual shooting mode it was actually in another mode because I looked at the dial line which was for the video-photo and s and q selection - I was not looking at the left arrow which was the correct arrow to line up the manual and other photo modes.
You mentioned double your shutter speed depending on the FPS you're shooting. When it's bright outside what do you change to adjust for lighting if ISO is at 100?
Nd filter. Probably 6-9 stops.

You go to menu and just pick your mode again.

Yes, that is correct~
Thanks for the video. Why do you need to double the shutter speed up to 120 when you shoot at 60p or 250 when you shoot at 120?
It’s called the 180 degree shutter rule for video which is putting your shutter speed to 1/frame rate x 2. Reason for doing is to achieve natural motion blur in your footage.

It’s because your camera is set to PAL instead of NTSC format. That will be correct if you live in Europe. I made a travel tip video where I talk about PAL vs NTSC. Check it out if you have time~
I live in the US so 24fps is correct setting for me but it might be different for you.

Is there a way to easily get manual mode back to default settings after tweaking it for memory 1? I like how you built on memory 1 to build memory 2 but what about going back to manual on the dial? Won't it now be the same as memory 1?
Yes, it will be the last setting you saved to memory 1.
I think only way to go back is to just dial it back in once you are done with setting the memory recall.

Shitty that you cant setup a custom white balance in video recall mode, best solution is to setup lock awb
I watn to know how to GET, or , bring the settings that I savend in M1, M2 etc. into the cam.....youdont say anything about taht .
You click on Mode button and click MR and pick your settings. Sorry about that.
