The sound of every working class British street in the 70's 🤣🤣, The Classic winter slow crank !
(Choke out, Silent prayer before you turned the key)Ruh ruh ruh ruh ruh….rrruh…rrrruh……click. Followed by (expletives! ) door slam, rust flakes dropping on the ground, then stomping off toward the bus stop. Great days 🙄 used to put a blanket over the engine at night to keep the damp out! Seriously! Only forgot to take it off once though 😆
You need a better battery
She's a runner 👌
😆
@@jackcarter66 yes blanket caught fire as forgot one morning as running late lol
Had six corsairs. 3 saloons, 2 estates, and a Crayford convertible. My favourite Ford of the 60's/early 70's. My 2000E had 146,000 on it and still ran like a sewing machine.
The best and most reliable car I have ever owned. It turned over exactly 4 times and fired every time. I miss that car.
That reminds me as a child laying in bed on a cold winters morning in the 70s listening to the neighbours trying to start their cars lol
makes my wonder how they got the bus and train started along with beating the germans decades earlier.
Grandpa says this and slowly one by one they would all start and drive past the Austin diesel at the end of the road still cranking over
I used to service one of these in the early 80s , I remember if they stood without running for a few months with no oil in the bore they would snap a couple of piston rings upon start up , I fitted some rings twice ! Bit of a rot box though , not seen one for many years , we’ll done getting her going 👍🏻
Did my apprenticship with a Ford main Dealer, 1970 to 75, never owned a Corsair, but worked on a few, I was a Cortina and Escort Man, still love the old Fords
2000E was a heavy car, bit of a cruiser, V4 engine not capable as inline four cylinder for tuning. The manual gearbox was superb strong gearbox with very fast cog change only beaten by rocket gearbox. These gearboxes were highly sought after for rallying etc. You would be amazed by the speed of gear change.
Absolutely great, I love my classic cars and the Corsair 2000E is a really nice car when restored, hope that one may get a second chance, a great will it start video
I had a Corsair in the early 80s as my first car, inherited from an ancient uncle in Norfolk, it was my daily drive as a freebie, I soon learnt basic car maintenance skills as it was a nightmare to start on cold/damp winter mornings
Bring it back to life what a beauty
I used to walk past one of these on the way to school in the 1980s. On a winter's morning with frost on the ground, I can remember it like yesterday. The days of that starter sound and the smell of petrol, with the choke pulled out ,mixed with burning oil!
It Doesn’t rust any more / less than cars of the 80’s 90’s 00’s etc it’s just that it’s 50 something years old, and we used to make do and mend to keep old cars on the road for longer back in the day with less money.People bang on about being skint now, trust me on this, they haven’t got a clue.
Good job done. If it was me trying to start any engine that had been lying idle for a long time, I’d have taken all the spark plugs out, squirted each cylinder with a little bit of engine oil, and got a fully charged heavy duty battery, then cranked the engine over a few times with the spark plugs out, to lube the cylinders and piston rings, then check plugs, if they were old and for all they cost stick in a new set of spark plugs, then check the ignition system including the rotor arm, points, leads, cap, etc for spark and correct settings, if you have a spark, and fuel and good compression, it should start.. I’m not sure about older auto gearbox’s but wouldn’t Reverse or Drive not have an inhibitor switch on the linkage/gearbox to stop the engine from cranking unless the lever was in N (Neutral) or P (Park) ..
I used to work at this scrap yard when I was a kid at weekends . It was called Ace Motors then 👍👍
I know some one who brought one in the 70,s and last time I saw him , it was still on the road .
The first step is remove all plugs, lubricate the cylinders and at v.least clean the plugs, you've e probably destroyed the cylinder walls cranking it over dry.
he checked and saw had oil pressure
Dad came home with a new one of these B reg which I think makes it 1964. That was an auto box and must have been a 1500.
It started going rusty within a year and was totally rotted out by 1969 when it was scrapped! Thankfully they don't make 'em like they used to!
This was a new model then and we had fun as the petrol station attendant (when they filled your car for you) could not find the filler cap, which was under the rear number plate which flipped down.
I then had two of them in the 70s when I started driving. Copper metalic one that all the pain was peeling off. I used to carry a spray can and touch it up.
Good luck with this old thing! Brave man!!!
My dad loved his Fords and had a Corsair. They did rot but GTX cans, pop rivets, filler and a generous coat of underseal sorted that out! Joked that the underseal along the bottom got higher every year! Hope this Corsair sees the road again.
Blimey reminds me when I used to own my mk1 and 2 escorts back in the 80s constantly faffing about checking spark , distribution timing etc , great memories 😀
Yes! My first Mk1 2 litre Capri GT was actually a V4 but still a nice car to drive. Ended up actually having five Capris through the 1970s as I was totally addicted to them before we had the kids. (There were a few Corsairs around but they never really caught on like the Cortinas and Capris) Happy days😊
Yea the sound of the 70s in the working class, brings back sweet memories🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
Love them old motors , scraped a few of them in the late 80s / early 90s they rot like hell , excellent video boys 👍
I had a 2000E ,very good performance, brilliant light's, and when I laid it up, I went to it after 3 months it started by just turning the key ,like it always had,I was sorry to see it go,So I didn't look,I could do with it now because the modern cars don't last as long, and also the timing gear isn't Nylon, it's Fibre.
Marcus OMG this was like being at collage, your a power house of understanding giving and intellect
you have blown me away
😂😂
Always liked a collage I did, pretty shapes, patterns etc.
Blast from the past!!! I had a 2000e rocket box coupled up with a 1650 crossflow engine in a ford anglia when I was road rallying back in the day awesome box in them days 👍
I had a 1966 1700 v4 one of the best cars I ever owned in around 1976 had it for 8 years before another car hit it and wrote it of but I sold all the parts of it including engine and automatic gearbox which went into a transit van. I made as much in parts as what I paid for it which was £100.
Great video guys always a pleasure to see a old ford being brought back to Life hope she finds a good home and ends up back on the road more please ☺️
The best video yet keep it up Marky well done mate
My Dad Phil had a 2000E in the 70s, silver manual. We spent more time pushing it than him driving. Had some fun in it though and it was all leather interior. Great vid lads
Back in the early 80s we had a fifth or sixth hand 1700 V4 - Ours was an automatic too, meaning it HAD to be a willing starter, and it generally really was...Cracking car...I almost wish we'd never got rid of it...subscribed just for nostalgia's sake
I learned to drive in my Fathers Ford Corsair. I still remember the plate number, and I don't know the numbers on any of my cars. I even learned to "clutch" or "juck" start as we called it, in that car.
Brake cleaner is the king, when starting old cars.
I now am 2 weeks late but yes Marcus good video definitely do more like that
Definitely more of this Markie, excellent content
Loved this video more please marky the channel is brilliant love seeing all variety of cars top work 👏
fantastic defo want to see more marky knows what hes doing
Eh, no, he really doesn't.
This is really poor, worse than Scotty whatsisface in the US.
Amateur and bloody dangerous wrapped up in a few minutes.
All that patrol, and brake cleaner? Get some ether based starting fluid but FFS, take due care with it. Brake cleaner, yeah great to strip the bores if any lub after years of lying dry.
I love the Corsair my mate put a 2.8 engine in his from a Granada
You struggled on Markie 👌 battery’s are the vain of my life mate 🤦♂️ well done boys woop woop! sausage rolls!
Love the Corsair, but don’t like the v engines, I preferred the 1500 gt straight 4.
Oh dear 2000 V4 my dad bought a new 2000 GT Capri in 1971 with that engine and it was that hard to start when it was 5 years old , I recon we witnessed a miracle watching you get that thing started know what a lousy engine that was
The most important thing to do before getting it started, is change that colour
what are u on about body is gone
@@paulhunter123 woosh
That was a smart car in its day ,a boss of mine had a brand new one in the 60 ts he then sold it and bought a new Vauxhall vx 490 that turned out to be a heap
The start of this brilliant 😂😂 yes marky
My old one was a right pain in the Harris! PVW 371D
I still have a twin choke Webber carb on an inlet manifold from one of these.it was an upgrade for my 1500 MK1 Cortina.46 years ago.
Jetted to suit I trust? 😂
More of these "will it run Marky" videos please 👍 well done Marky great job
First car I ever owned cost me £17. V4 auto 2000e. Think it was colum change with a bench seat. Around 1980. Great video keep them coming. I have liked and subscribed. 👍👍👍
Always remember my dad's lovely car FOL 220E was rReg I still remember it and I am 58
great car as had a few of these in the 70"s bit on the heavy side cornering and even rolled one once coming off the motorway.
More will it starts this video was wicked
Mate more of this and this channel will blow!
Markie the Edd China of the north!
Eeeeeee,
😂😂😂😂😂 or not.
Enjoy the trouble shooting / solution run down for the classic rides .thank you marcus's gray matter and grubby hands
That v4 engine was what was fitted in the transit when they were first released.
Also used in early Saab,s like 93,s and 94,s
v4 still on rationing then whats the point. detuned v8s?
Really loved it keep it up lads
loving all these will in run videos nice to see you are striping these rusty classics for parts to keep other classics running instead of just banger racing them which is simply a waste of rare cars in the name of a so called sport it not a sport it is just mindless vandalisim
a little tip for you to get these old cars running invest in a cheap 12v tick type pump off ebay to supply fuel to the carb when trying to get the engines to run that's what i used to do when i was in the trade keep up the good work and keep the videos coming
Had the straight 4 in 1972 painted in Air Force Blue broke my heart when the garage where it was kept was vandalised and had to be scrapped
Great video Marcus
I can't see the point in starting an engine which has sat for so long. The motor won't last very long before it needs a complete overhaul in any case.
Really enjoyed the video definitely do more of these please
A Ford Corsair with 153,000 miles on the clock is:
a) a miracle
b) fucked
Not bad for around 50 years old. Plenty of Fords of that generation were rusty like that after 20 years or less.
Great video lads!
It's a lot of work but do-uppable. Hope it happens!
Brilliant nice job done 😊
The proverbial V4 Mk1 Transit engine, I knew I saw it somewhere before, perhaps a previous life 👍 ha ha !
Starting to show my age 😄
Talking about showing my age, and Ford Transit, the aussie ford transits had the 4.1 litre ford falcon engine ( also a 3.3 litre unit ) inline 6, originally I think from XF falcon of the 70's also shared in the aussie cortina TC, TE & TF ( mk 3,4 & 5 )
Keep doing these please!
Had a 2,000 e mate rolled it racing a mini cooper,s looks like it has some back pressure
Thanks Marcus for the brilliant video. Do some more when you have time.
Brilliant Intro! Love the heavy music! Brilliant Editing! Great close ups!!! Mr Markey is the Man!! Where was James? Day off?? Heeeee!!!
Haha markey boy wanted the lime light 😂
Keep up the great video lads
Great work getting it running .
im so impressed
Corse it will run marky boys on it 👍
Hi there nice to see the old car I have had lots of cars over the years and I used to have the 2000E it was mint condition it was purple with a black vinyl roof and spring lifters so the backend was up high but it was fast the v4 engine was used in a lot of different cars them days and it was used in the Ford transit my friend had the GT and it was like a rocket mine got stolen and they sized the engine I had to pick it up from the police station I got a another engine put it in but the car was rubbish after that so I got rid but I don't think they were as popular all the years I have been driving I never seen many about
Fabulous car
italy the corsair was imported and proposed with the 1500 kent engine and subsequently with the 1700 v4 essex (my car) the 2000E never proposed
More of these please marky 👍 bet that electric shock off the battery made your bum squeak 😂
I rescued my 71 dodge charger from a pullapart in the states, its in the uk with me now at show car condition, i would love to come have a look at your stuff some time
oh yes more more more and ive wanted one of those since i was 8 now im 60
More please
2 videos in one week hhhheeeeee plus a creamy mmaarrrkkkyyy .jokes apart great video did enjoy that one .
Not 30 or 40 years old more like 50 to 60 years old, and it’s a Ford so yes full of rot, but good to see this old bus trying to breath again.
Had 1970 aussie ford cortina 1600 gt, good looking car but oh my were they fragile everything esp steering ball joints suspension and reknowed for destroying number 4 piston , and that stupid spinning out starter motor ,, and it was in fine condition too no rust on it anywhere back in 1992 anyway
Had a 2000E in the 70’s….. great tub once I had new pistons in it😂….. claimed 100bhp by Ford….. seemed quick….. everybody missed this and only saw the 1600E cortina…..😎💪🏼
My Father dodged a bullet in tje early 70s by not buying a 2000E, young as I was I protested it's shortcomings and he went the Hillman Arrow route, fair to say he didn't regret it and went Ford later with the Mk3 Cortina.
@@sonofplato do you mean Avenger…. Or Hunter?
@@colinblick4903 Hunter, the Avenger wasn't in the Arrow range.
@@sonofplato arrow?….. don’t know that one….. mind you I am gettin on 😂
@@colinblick4903 it wasn't a car but rather an internal designation, the Arrow range was the successor to the Audax range, think late 50s early 60s Hillman Minx, Sunbeam Rapier, Singer Gazelle. First of the Arrow range was the 'new' Hillman Minx circa 1967.
my dad had one of these it got stolen in 1975 from blackpool 11 of us went for a day out in it lol
I have some fond memories of my old dads 2000E, silver grey with a black vinyl roof, erm not my dad the car.
Reminds me of the joke…. Apparently Ford are bringing out a new car called the Pubic.
It’s made out of old Corsairs😂
Ì hadà 67 2000E from73 to76, great car overall, PX IT FOR A 3000ECapri
I had 2000 automatic ,got flat battery one day so got a push , bumper to bumper it kicked in at 25 mph 👍
i didnt know u cud bump start an auto
@@paulhunter123 I didn't untill that day .lol
you need to do a recreation inform others with this intel
Great video, cant wait to see the professional struggler there.
Yes lads heeeeee 🤙
I think you maths are out mate, first model was 1964 and they stopped making these in 1970. So 50 to nearly 60 years old, condition is about the same as any mass production car of the time as seam sealer was almost never used. Most repairs were of the body filler quality rather than proper welding due to the value, for example by about 1980 this car was worth about £100 fully MOT'd and taxed.
More like 115k miles, I think. It's been round the clock & the red odometer drum measures tenths of a mile.
Really enjoyed that, cheers unk 🍺👌👍
Great content as usual boyz go on markie love this channel
Try about 50 plus years mate a Sierra Cosworth is 36, years old roughly , think these were 64 to 1970 , cheers lads 👍
Yessssss markie markie Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
2 in 2 days 👍 now we're talking
Loved it.Would be interesting to find out what happens to it .
I had one loved it so smooth to drive
