    Reminds me of the time in the 80's when I hired a realtor in Bozeman, Montana and I met her at her home and walked into the living room to come face to face with Bud Lilly. What a wonderful, kind and generous man.

    In the course of conversation topic of losing fish came up.....old man I knew struck rod DOWN sharply to set hook when fishing soft tip rods....he said when you push rod sharply down the tip actually goes UP ......so when you jerk rod sharply up at time of strike the tip actually goes down and does not set hook properly...... think about it..... he used to do this alot when he was getting what he called "light bites"

    Idaho has done so well with its stream fisheries over the years. Those of us from WA state are jealous. Such beautiful country in ID.

    Its such an unavoidable reaction to tell somebody to set the hook. I sometimes catch myself doing it to the fella who taught me how to fly fish. He never says a word, just stands back and watches me farm 2 or 3 hook sets in a row. Good times lol. Love your content.

    Got inspired by your vid and bought my first tenkara rod (a mini). I used to fly but now mostly salties since I live in VA beach. I'll use it to play with panfish in the area. I appreciate you pointing the catch in the vid, hard to see. 👍👍😱

    Great video. I'm also a big fan if Teton Tenkara. Kind of an off the wall question but what type of waders were you wearing in the video? Also I really like your backpack. What type of backpack do you use? Does it come with those front pouches? Thanks.

    • @TenkaraAddict
      @TenkaraAddict  3 года назад

      The waders are great. Here's the link (and they're also on Amazon): www.iwaderfishing.com/products/s1-chest-waders?variant=32095470125191
      I made the backpack myself, including the front pouches.

    By your fishing cross stream, it was possible to see the line well enough to see the take by several fish. That was great.

    How do you detect strikes you don’t see? Is it by feel or seeing the line tighten or sometimes either?

    I always enjoy your videos. I appreciate that you show a close up of your flies. I know you list your equipment, but it would be nice to know if you are using them dry or wet, of if you used floatant on your fly or line. You are so successful, I could gleen a better experience. I've done my share of fly fishing, but I'm new to Tenkara and I love it!

    • @TenkaraAddict
      @TenkaraAddict  3 года назад

      I've never once used floatant. I fish all of my flies wet. Thanks for watching!

      I assume you mean polarized, not polaroid. I usually do, yes, but none of them for the GoPro seem to make much of a difference.

    Eye-opening video - I don't fish streams that big either, but if I did, my first inclination would be to break out the "traditional" fly gear and dredge the bottom with nymphs; I wouldn't think about Tenkara - this video proves my inclination would be wrong.

    Question: how can you fish through winter? Dont you have certain seasons when fishing is allowed and also some where fishing is not allowed? Like we habe in europe certain protected spawning season during fall and winter were we are not allowed to fish in order to protect the spawning fish and give them a resting periode?!

    • @TenkaraAddict
      @TenkaraAddict  3 года назад +1

      It depends on the state. Some states have fishing seasons and some don't. In this particular state (Idaho), you can fish year-round. Some of the native (cutthroat) trout streams are temporarily closed during spawning, which is in early summer.

    Does anyone know of someone making Tenkara rod "burritos" similar to the one Tom Davis's wife made for him? I think it's a great idea and would love to utilize one of these but have not seen them offered commercially nor do I have the means to make one myself. Any info would be helpful, thank you!

    An important aspect of Tenkara for me is simplicity. Having many rods just adds complications. My suggestion is to pick a rod you like and use that one. Concentrate on fly presentation, not equipment selection. But that is just my point of view.
