One of the first things I do every Saturday morning is wake up and open up RUclips. I find myself being gitty like it’s Christmas morning every Saturday that I get to watch your videos. Thank you for continuing to make these, it is much appreciated Tristan!
those fish are living proof that beavers create great habitat with their ponds. there must be a lof of food in that quite small stream to support fish of that size nice vid
Hi, Tristan….I learned of tenkara rods from you a few years ago. I mostly watch you on Suv rv’ing. I am so excited because a friend just bought me the Sierra Tenkara rod! I have not yet received it, but am so looking forward to watching more of your tenkara addict vids now to learn more of how to fish with it. I must tell you that you have had a great influence on me….all in good ways! Thanks!
Okay, let's think back to October 2021 in a really little stream in Wyoming using the Dragontail Mizuchi with an 11 ft line...about 11 or so minutes into your video, you hooked into a BIG fish, and I quote from the soundtrack, "Oh my gosh, it's a monster! It's a monster! It's a monster! It's a monster!" And when you measured it, it was 17 inches. You were fishing one of those step-across streams and you pulled out a 17 inch trout! That was surprising and highly gratifying! The video heading was "Big Trout Here".
That was probably the single most surprising catch I've had! I'm pretty sure that fish was a 16-incher, though, not 17. That's why I said the 17er here was my new personal best cutthroat. Thanks Robert!
@@TenkaraAddict Have you been back to that tiny thin creek where there were huge browns and rainbows in Idaho but they were getting off the hook. I remember you called of them a "dragon" hahaha.
That was fun! Thank you again! I picked up a Hellbender a couple months ago and am looking forward to trying it out in some high elevation lakes n streams when time and weather miraculously line up again lol! It is Steelhead time too and I'd love to give them a go some time. I'm not sure if that's on your radar, but they do get into some small streams and look like a fun challenge. Northern CA coast trip! Enjoy your day Tristan!
Sweet day on the creek indeed! And the Hellbender rod. Great rod and can handle all those fish with ease. I have that rod and it somehow reminds me of an old Sage sp 6wt. I have. Kinda sorta the same rod action. The Hellbender I reckon in the hands of someone knowing how to play fish efficiently can most likely handle trout in the 20" to 24" range. Mahalo for another great video flick. I always look forward to saturday!
Great video as always. I enjoy your comments and observations. I’m still laughing at your sandwich suddenly appearing over your head! 😂 Keep up the good work!
Thanks Tristen good video. I'm taking my grandson up to a little creek in Eastern Utah ans let him try tenkara. I'm liking it it more all the time. Caught 30 fish in about 2 hours a week ago in southern Utah. Thanks again.
The upper sections of this stream, I am almost certain, are untouched and likely pristine sections of water. I once caught a gnarly tiger so high up there that I felt terrible because it must have been quite the ordeal through spring runoff to travel so many miles through some rough stream terrain.
Very pretty fish, but I personally have caught bigger on the Yellowstone River, thigh deep, 7W fly rod. Three native cutthroat, each over 18 inches! Oh, yes with an abcessed tooth! The thrill of the fish made the tooth pain disappear!
Another great video Tristan! I live in Ut, would be cool to meet you in the mountains one day. Also congrats on the new house "I saw on your @suvrving channel." Tight lines, Steve @blackflycreations ✌️
What a great creek! I like seeing you catch those "bigger" fish. Just curious with all the hiking around those creeks, do you ever have problems with ticks?
hi. have enjoyed your videos since taking up tenkara. Thanks for posting! quick question (more of a technique question than anything...) - how do you tell when you get a bite? i'm looking at your line (at 9:02 and 10:01) and there doesn't seem to be much movement at all. Are you looking for the slightest movement on your level line, or are you feeling for the tug on the rod? or is it just a matter of being able to actually see the fish take the fly under water?
One of the first big fish looked like it had long body and over sized head. Possibly an older fish but not enough available critters to eat. Still great fishing for above average trout! Thanks for sharing , Tristan.
Awesome vid and a great catch, brother. A request: would you be able to regularly report on water temps or even just to note what your impression is? I've been in almost identical spots (in terms of topography and vegetation) but nothing - and I think temp is a key factor. Thanks! Tenkara on!
Great fishing spot! I can't believe how fast that HELLbender rod brought in those big fish. With my tenkara rod I would have been hanging on for dear life.
Your videos are great and i watch them often. Your purism to your technique is impressive. I'm not from where you are, I don't know the spawning seasons or behaviors. I could only Hazard a guess that it is big fish receding after spawning....or big fish moving to spawn as they are unnaturally big 🤔. Well done
Amazing how one REALLY quality fish can make a whole outing worth it. I few weeks back I was having a terrible night at Echo Reservoir (northern Utah) and was about to call it quits, when an outstanding 21" reservoir brown trout grabbed my spoon. Best fish I've had in probably two years?
Great Video. Beautifully huge fish. How do you get access to all these fantastic streams? Are most of them park land or Private? Thanks for the great content.
“What a great place to fish!” Couldn’t agree more! Thanks for sharing. A question: Wouldn’t a creek with tiger trout by definition also hold browns and brookies too, since the tiger is a non-breeding hybrid of the two?
In this case, no. The tiger trout here are not naturally reproducing but are stocked into the lake that this creek flows into. Some of the planted lake fish make their way into the creek.
Love these vids, Tristan. I travel a lot for work and can’t always take full fly gear. Gotta get a tenkara setup. What single rod would you suggest to travel with generally in the US?
It really depends on the size of water you'd want to fish. Since I'm a creek fisherman, I'd take one of the smaller triple zoom rods, something like the Dragontail Mizuchi, the Zen Tenkara Suzume, or the Tenkara USA Rhodo. Something that fishes in the roughly 8 to 11 ft range. I'd personally probably pick the Suzume out of those.
I'm pretty sure I've seen people online catch bass and carp with this rod, so I'd say yes. But you could always ask Brent from Dragontail about his thoughts.
Those fish were noticeably skinny, definitely very underfed. Since tigers wouldn't be indigenous it strikes me as odd that a fisheries department would stock a stream with anything without first recognizing the condition of the existing population. Seems like you might be exacerbating an existing obstacle.
I'm sorry man, but this time bad place and bad fish. Still water, muddy bottom, thin, weak and apparently sick fish. I think the worst creek you've fished since I've been following you will be better next time.
Does anyone know any company that makes Tenkara heavy enough for my addiction.......CARP ? P>S> congrats on your PB and thanks for hooking me on this sport.

Good shows. I fly fish d for 40 years tied my own flies. It was great! Watching your videos is wonderful!! Keep them coming!!!
Dude! Seriously???!!! Man, what a DAY! What a stream! What a video!!!!
I wish we had beaver ponds. That landscape is beautiful.
Enjoy watching, The years have taken my legs, but your videos refresh memories of many successful times.Thankyou!
Wow such Groovy music to get the video started. 👌 Nice touch

Do you ever eat a fish? In a skillet on a fire, little local sage for flavor. Yum!

Beavers are wonderful for healthy streams filled with fish.
Thanks for the channel, I'm a fan. When you ID the fish, would you explain the difference between different cutthroats? Thanks
Good gravy. This is the definition of a honey hole. Fun!!!
What a great stream! Glad you decided to pay it a revisit - excellent video. Many thanks!
Thanks Michael!
awesome fishing tight lines

Thank you, just the sort of fishing I love - and almost impossible to find in the South of England

Another great video! It was just funny to see the average difference in size of the fish compared to your normal small streams!
Nice turn... "sandwiches in the sky". good chuckle.

Great adventures, even without the tiger trout. thanks Tristan for sharing.

Best creek yet!
What about your shadow on the water? Doesn’t that spook the fish?
Nice one Tristan!!! Cheers!!!
This rod looks like it could handle a steelhead! What a creek! Great fishing. Your presentation always looks good. Thank you for the video!
I believe people do use this rod for steelhead. It can handle them!
Groovy intro, awesome scenery and well done on the PB!🙌🙂
Hooya Mr T! Great 👍 video.
You have all the fun!
Amazing average size of trout in those ponds, congratulations on a great day, thanks for sharing and hope the thigh water dried out!

most of those fish did not put up much of a fight and most of them were skinny nice size though.

Doesn’t seem to be much fight in these fish? Is the water especially cold it’s like there lethargic?
beaver ponds do good things for trout size
What a great video of an awesome place to fish, with trout of incredible size! Wonderful! (In spite of the deep, hidden hole you stepped in.)
Thanks for watching, Mark!
That looked like a lot of fun!
Sure was! Thanks for watching.
Congrats on the multiple big cutthroat! What beautiful fish they are!
Nice fishing and your care for the fish after the catch is prefect. Much respect")
Awesome job well done
Really makes me appreciate the 32" 12 pound Rainbow on my wall.

All the streams I fish are on public land, usually national forest land 👍
I was ready to fire up the smoker !!!!
Great fishing area. 👍
Great production as usual Tristan. When you fish these remote streams do you carry any bear repellent?
I do when in grizzly bear country, but this wasn't, so I didn't.
The hard fighter needed a moment to gather himself to swim off. He spent a lot of energy.
Nice catch!
Superb fishing 🎣
Nice video my friend! 🙂
Yeah but where in utah?
I don't share creek names or specific locations.
Long fish but skinny Tristan. Do you think they were stocked quite big and just don't have much food?
could be the time of year if cold hits and kills the insects there is not much to get fat on.
You wouldn't try to bite the magic sky sandwich?!
what's tippet size?
“What a great place to fish!” Couldn’t agree more! Thanks for sharing. A question: Wouldn’t a creek with tiger trout by definition also hold browns and brookies too, since the tiger is a non-breeding hybrid of the two?

How long did you spend on the water for this video?
I mention this at the end of the video 👍
It's been rough twice on the Ogden I got nothing... Oh well it's the nature we love
Are you using a dry fly here?
Nope
Очень живописное место и рыбалка.
Is this boulder area?
I don't give creek location specifics, sorry.
Тристан, отличный размер форели!
I've caught many a trout in holes just like you stepped in and got wet.
Losing fish before get to hand is ok with me because I release him anyway.
You need to put the fish back in the water faster you’re stressing them out
👏🙌🔥❤️
It's safe to assume you only use kebari flies all year?
Yes. If it's mid-winter and I'm fishing bigger water, I might fish weighted kebari to get down deep enough.
