10:28 letting previous players of the Geofront patch to use their saves in the official release its just an amazing thing to do like, NISA has a bad reputation when it comes to localizing a franchise not their own ( Atelier being a good example of the worst that can happen when they don't do quality control ) so its good they are taking into consideration those who came from the Geofront or the fan translations as well
The western PS4 version never got the enhancements because it would require Falcom themselves to implement them, unlike Switch and PC that are handled by PH3. The agreement between NISA and Falcom was likely that they would release the PS4 version as is, and permission to develop additional ports funded by NISA. It could also be because Falcom is too busy with Kuro II and Ys X.
From what I understand, NISA was really only tasked with localizing the PS4 version, since it had already been ported to PS4 in Japan. But they were tasked with both porting and localization of the PC and Switch versions. Which is why those have QoL improvements that the PS4 version doesn't. I don't really get why Kai content wasn't included, though.
What do you mean by the Kai content not being included? The Switch/PC versions are ports of the original PS4 Kai version. Did you mean to question why the extra stuff from the Evolution versions wasn't carried over to the Kai versions?
Thank you! I have been trying for a while to find out just what the Quality of Life differences were between the PS4 and other versions of the more recent one, but everyone just said, hey they exist, not detailing what they frick they were, and instead focusing on the graphical differences which look...different, though it seems more style than substance from my look over it.

Thank you sir that's very informative! Geofront is just amazing and Geofront working with NIS America to release the game sets a good industry practice imo. Hats off to all who worked and are working behind this they really 'get over the barrier'!
@Devil Thanks I watched the videos. This really baffles me I don't understand why NISA made this decision. The players using Excel spreadsheet translation to play a game are really hardcore fans imo (I mean what casual player tolerate play a game with the help of a excel sheet? No) and they will quite probably double dip when official translation copy released in the west. But NISA still move on to order the closure of the fan TL site. This will definitely hurt their goodwill. Further more, they don't even want to negotiate with Zerofield fan translation team and banned people who mentioned Kuro no Kiseki in the chat which really shows their attitude of not willing to communicate with fan on the matter. All this will eventually upset fans in the west and boycott the company which will hurt them financially. I usually play Chinese version of Falcom's games but I will raise the voice for west fans as well by emailing NISA to reserve the decision of shutting down Zerofield site. Falcom fans do not deserve this.
I feel like the answer is simple. Falcom does not have full ownership of the rights to Evolution so they couldn't get things like the graphical touches and side-quests unless they entirely re-built them again for Kai. They were able to get the voice acting since that is usually a separate contract and possibly they already had some ownership of that. Plus it is clear the Kai ports were pretty rushed to get Crossbell on modern consoles to make it viable for English localizations. NISA of course had likely no way to license the Evolution content due to the hangups with Kadokawa.
@@Xbob42 i never played it so i can't tell but the extra DP is always good incase you ever mess something up, what would be really good would be the cut in scenes added in from the Evolution version.

From what I have read, seems likely Falcom probably due to some higher-ups decision as you stated likes to handle the programming for the original version even for localizations which is why the PS4 versions are not done by PH3 or have the enhancements. NISA is doing native PS5 ports of Ys VIII and IX and have been shown to be essentially ports of the PC versions of those games and go a bit further than the previous PS5 enhancements patches those games have seen. Showing they can bring enhancements to Playstation versions.
PH3 version is obviously better, but I went with ps4 version since I have the cold steel series on that platform. Hoping to collect the rest of the series on ps4 when they release them in the west!
Yeah I was a bit caught off guard when I saw the random Japanese text during my first playthrough, will be playing it again nearer to Azure release date I want to get 100% on everything
I say ps4 and steam version. You will have a physical copys of the current games. Trails of cold 1-4 and zero and if you have a steam deck you will get the best version and it be portable. But you will miss out on cold 1 and 2 aren't they not on pc or switch yet.
You missed a Traditional Chinese PC port version back in 2011 by interwise. It is basically the same with the Joyoland version but is in Traditional Chinese instead of Simplified Chinese, and with a few tweaks in the text for better localization fit to Taiwanese audiences. Oh wow, the message log from the Geofront version is actually way more beautiful and professional if compared to the official english version one. Interesting XD
PC version+inevitable zero mod is the best to play the only thing it is missing is the water distortion from vita (they added the water distortion now its 1000% the best way t oplay)
Thanks for the video, I ended up playing Steam version. For Azure, I don't want to wait though I will buy NiS release on it's launch. Does Evo for Azure change soundtrack as well? I kind of prefer the original soundtrack and want to have that in Azure too. Can I leave out Evo mods for Geofront version?
Yes, geofront ver and the PH3 (latest official ver) give you the choice to pick Soundtracks and unlike sky, some evo tracks here actually sound good but i would still choose the original
They need to make a PS5 patch for it or something to apply the PH3 updates... Seriously. Is it a major bummer to play. You know even though it says not to quit when autosaving, the ps4 version doesn't even seem to HAVE autosaves.
Does the new PC version also have the option to use the original textures with point scaling? Because I loved the style of the sora no kiseki games with that option.
Sadly no. It does have a option called outline glow or something to make it look slightly more like the older versions. Don't really know why you would want the more pixeled graphics but you can always use the joyland verision with the geofront patch (if you manage to find it since it is dislisted) though it still less pixeled then the psp versions
Simple Version PSP: Original version PC: PSP but with better assets +Geofront adds some some Vita: Dynamic shadows water distortion extra side quests animated faces KAI: Extra NPCS from further games no content from vita same graphics as psp KAI PC: same as PS4 KAI PS4 NISA: Same as KAI PC NISA: Everything from all other versions + even better assets missing Vita quests but can be easily modded. missing animated faces
Oh boy, as always the PC mod community saves the day, lol this was a random recommendation from youtube, I never played any game from this "Trails" series (I am willing to emulate the original PSP game on my phone tho), but it was predictable the PC port would feature mods that improved stuff... and of course, here they are. I don't know if that is a positive or a negative tbh, fans in their basement should not do the work of paid developers, these ports are paid products man, they are supposed to follow standards of quality. It's like selling a car without the rear mirrors because the paid consumer is supposed to install the mirrors on their own, that's bullshit
5:25 So, if Mother 3 ever gets an official localization, does that mean that Tomato could actually delist his translation, since his reasons for doing it are similar?
@@fireguardiancoty Uhm, yes you are? Extra textures, chest messages, chat log etc. All quality of life improvements that aren't in the PS4 version.. hence, the Switch and PC ones are far, far superior.
@@Maubari chest messages are in the PS4 version so the only thing you're really "missing out" on is a message log. Aside from typos, the PS4 version does not have the issues the newer ports have but people are quick to call it inferior. Like I said before, it's the exact same game content wise no matter which version you get. The newer ports do not have any exclusive story or optional content added to it. Personally I really don't care about the graphics since I go in with the mindset that this was originally a PSP game.
The only thing that had me worried about these games was including the Evolution ost. Thank god they decided not to use that one cause hoooooooly is it a stinker in comparison.
so if i get the PC version, i don't have to do any patching? is that right? for example, the sky arc i have been doing evo voice acting and portraits.. or do i still need to do some patches to bring in those character picture of characters that appear in azure etc?
The only mods for zero are Evo music (from Vita version) extra protraits extra sidequests from the Vita version Voice acting is already in the game They all very easy to install unlike the pain that is installing the mods for sky
I have to admit that as a PS4 owner I do find the fact that the ps4 version is the lesser of the PC and Switch version feels like I'm being cheated. Still I already have the entire Cold Steel series for PS4 so I will probably just get the PS4 version. Still thanks for the detailed comparison.
Its kinda amazing to me when a switch port is definitive console version. Its so refreshing to see a switch port thats not a garbage tier version. That native 1080p really makes the game look insanely clean. You forget how low resolution most switch games are until you play this and it looks razor sharp.
Obviously the best way is the ps vita unofficial patch but since most ppl dont have one, the next best option is the switch version since playing it on a mobile console is how the game was designed.
I think so. nearly 10 games in and I'm still enjoying the series. it has a great big overarching plot that spans the series, but can also be broken down into smaller story arcs if you don't want to make that kind of commitment, so you don't need to worry about having to play all the games to get a satisfying conclusion. the biggest draw for me is the top notch world building, and NPC interactions that are constantly updating as you progress the story
Definitely! One of the Best RPG series of all time The order is, Trails In The Sky Trilogy, Then Trails From Zero, Then Trails Of Azure that Will come out on march, then play Trails From Cold Steel 1-4, so You can continue with Trails Into Reverie when it releases. And stay tuned for Kuro No Kiseki Eventually
I got the PS4 version but I wasn't aware of the graphic differences versus the switch and PC version (I haven't started the game yet). My question is this though; is it consistent with Trails of Cold Steel 1 and 2 for PS4 as far as graphics goes, or is it somehow inferior?
for this particular game, there's no need to make a video, the choice is obvious, pc/switch are way better than the ps4 version, I own switch and ps4 versions, the first one just to enjoy the enhancements and better graphics (but honestly havent touched it so I might not buy azure for the switch next year) and the second version (ps4) I bought it because I own all 4 Cold Steel games, and any future Trails games will be played on my ps5, and that's the version im playing I dont care that in this case is the inferior one, I have all my platinum games there and I want the crossbell duology to be put together with CS, Reverie and the Kuro games still, I liked this comparison, not to make a decision about which version to buy, just out of curiosity to see how different both versions look
WHAT A MESS OF LOCALIZATION. That being said geofront are legendary. Just an amazing mess of a release, I really do not like the ai upscaled in game characters though. They look like cheap and nasty pre rendered CG instead of the charming sprite based look of the originals.
All I want to know is whether or not they kept the annoying memespeak lines such as "If this ain't a bruh moment, then I don't know what is.". That's the main thing keeping me from purchasing this or Trails from Azure (aside from my general lack of familiarity with the Legend of Heroes series).

If it makes a difference to anyone, they are adding a free PSVR mode to the PS4 version where you can see and communicate with the main characters.
Very informative video. Thanks.
PC version, on the Steam Deck of course.
I hope someday you check out the different versions of No More Heroes 1.
Which Version of Trails From Zero Should You Play?
=> the version which you have ^^
Okay but why are there exit signs on the outsides of buildings
Thanks for the video, I ended up playing Steam version.
For Azure, I don't want to wait though I will buy NiS release on it's launch. Does Evo for Azure change soundtrack as well? I kind of prefer the original soundtrack and want to have that in Azure too. Can I leave out Evo mods for Geofront version?
Yes, geofront ver and the PH3 (latest official ver) give you the choice to pick Soundtracks and unlike sky, some evo tracks here actually sound good but i would still choose the original
Long live Falcom!
They need to make a PS5 patch for it or something to apply the PH3 updates... Seriously. Is it a major bummer to play.
You know even though it says not to quit when autosaving, the ps4 version doesn't even seem to HAVE autosaves.
Will you be doing trails from azure?
Great info
I fucking love these videos, super in depth .
Just got the switch version! 🎉
Will you do a video for trails through daybreak?
I had no clue this is how the game always looked... I thought it was a full remake/remaster.
In this lastest version by PH3 that is on PC/Switch, can you choose between arrange and original BGM?
Simple Version
PSP: Original version
PC: PSP but with better assets +Geofront adds some some
Vita: Dynamic shadows water distortion extra side quests animated faces
KAI: Extra NPCS from further games no content from vita same graphics as psp
KAI PC: same as PS4 KAI
PS4 NISA: Same as KAI
PC NISA: Everything from all other versions + even better assets missing Vita quests but can be easily modded. missing animated faces
Considering all the additions to the localized Switch and PC version, it's pretty shitty that NISA would charge the same price for the PS4 version.
Can I ask what is the save data that Zero carries to Azure?
I bought Azure on PS4 so RIP.
5:25 So, if Mother 3 ever gets an official localization, does that mean that Tomato could actually delist his translation, since his reasons for doing it are similar?
I think it's messed up that the ps4 version costs the same as switch and pc and its not labeled as being different.
Content wise, they are the exact same game. You're not missing out on anything no matter which version of the game you're buying.
The Evolution ost of Zero is quite "meh", but the one for Azure is really good. :)
Is the Evolution ost that bad?
So there are two separate versions for the Switch here in the US? Where do you get the ph3 version?
There is only ph3 version
Please do a comparison of Tales of Symphonia Remastered!
I played the STEAM version and it's great.
so if i get the PC version, i don't have to do any patching? is that right? for example, the sky arc i have been doing evo voice acting and portraits.. or do i still need to do some patches to bring in those character picture of characters that appear in azure etc?
The only mods for zero are
Evo music (from Vita version)
extra protraits
extra sidequests from the Vita version
Voice acting is already in the game
They all very easy to install unlike the pain that is installing the mods for sky
Recommended control settings?
Evolution music is so different
Any portable if course - whichever one you have access to. I prefer switch.
I have to admit that as a PS4 owner I do find the fact that the ps4 version is the lesser of the PC and Switch version feels like I'm being cheated. Still I already have the entire Cold Steel series for PS4 so I will probably just get the PS4 version. Still thanks for the detailed comparison.
playing Switch version, great game, I hope they will do more 2 HD games, 3D are cool but there is still a big potential for 2HD
Its kinda amazing to me when a switch port is definitive console version. Its so refreshing to see a switch port thats not a garbage tier version. That native 1080p really makes the game look insanely clean. You forget how low resolution most switch games are until you play this and it looks razor sharp.
PC/Steam Deck is the best because we can always count on the community to update it, can't really say the same about the consoles.
I had to buy the Evo version overseas
Obviously the best way is the ps vita unofficial patch but since most ppl dont have one, the next best option is the switch version since playing it on a mobile console is how the game was designed.
good ol me got the ps4 version cuz physical gaming.
Well I'll never play PC/Steam games don't own a Switch/PS5 that leaves ONLY the PS4 version left for the "English dub".
is this franchise worth getting into. looks cool.
I think so. nearly 10 games in and I'm still enjoying the series. it has a great big overarching plot that spans the series, but can also be broken down into smaller story arcs if you don't want to make that kind of commitment, so you don't need to worry about having to play all the games to get a satisfying conclusion. the biggest draw for me is the top notch world building, and NPC interactions that are constantly updating as you progress the story
@@Some_Random_Guy nice. Which game should I play first as a newcomer.
@@lionablaze8747 Trails in the Sky FC is the optimal game to start with. It's available on Steam.
Definitely! One of the Best RPG series of all time
The order is, Trails In The Sky Trilogy, Then Trails From Zero, Then Trails Of Azure that Will come out on march, then play Trails From Cold Steel 1-4, so You can continue with Trails Into Reverie when it releases. And stay tuned for Kuro No Kiseki Eventually
@@KVROACEGG got it. thanks.
I don’t understand why no message history in cold steel games…
It's an older game from the PS3. The backlog is a Vita function that has been implemented on the newer ports. Cold Steel from 3 on has backlog though.
Love soundtrack of psp version
I got the PS4 version but I wasn't aware of the graphic differences versus the switch and PC version (I haven't started the game yet). My question is this though; is it consistent with Trails of Cold Steel 1 and 2 for PS4 as far as graphics goes, or is it somehow inferior?
for this particular game, there's no need to make a video, the choice is obvious, pc/switch are way better than the ps4 version, I own switch and ps4 versions, the first one just to enjoy the enhancements and better graphics (but honestly havent touched it so I might not buy azure for the switch next year) and the second version (ps4) I bought it because I own all 4 Cold Steel games, and any future Trails games will be played on my ps5, and that's the version im playing I dont care that in this case is the inferior one, I have all my platinum games there and I want the crossbell duology to be put together with CS, Reverie and the Kuro games
still, I liked this comparison, not to make a decision about which version to buy, just out of curiosity to see how different both versions look
so switch version is the optimal one to get?
Yes! Either PC or Switch are the same and better versions than the PS4 one
@@KVROACEGG thanks!
WHAT A MESS OF LOCALIZATION.
That being said geofront are legendary. Just an amazing mess of a release, I really do not like the ai upscaled in game characters though. They look like cheap and nasty pre rendered CG instead of the charming sprite based look of the originals.
Why they would do this to the ps4 version is just beyond me.
someone really needs to tell everyone on youtube that there's 2 T's in the word 'important'. not sure when we stopped saying both of them
All I want to know is whether or not they kept the annoying memespeak lines such as "If this ain't a bruh moment, then I don't know what is.". That's the main thing keeping me from purchasing this or Trails from Azure (aside from my general lack of familiarity with the Legend of Heroes series).
They did not.
file for the ps viota please for repatch
I miss the answer to the question in your title this time..but good video otherwise
