  • Hunting is a Family Traditional for the Lemkes and this hunt is a perfect example of that. Headed into the 2021 season, Alison and Bryan set a goal for "Ali" to shoot her first whitetail buck with a bow. Hard work along with the support of family and friends finally allowed the STARS to ALIGN!

@@TheDeerSociety you are absolutely right! I have 2 young hunters both were 12 (last year first year) and our neighbors (we have 340 they 80) had coranaries last year I ENCOURAGED to harvest whatever. My stepson got a 2.5yo 10pt 15.5" inside with his xbow on Halloween. I think I'm more proud of him then he is. His friend (who i mentor cause his dad doesn't hunt) shot a 1.5yo 8pt on the 2nd day of gun (Sunday before Thanksgiving). The neighbors did the right thing to both boys n congratulated them. To me later they complained about shooting small bucks. I haven't harvested a buck in 3 years cause I haven't gotten a big one in range or where I could make an ethical shot. I simply smiled at them n stated the truth my kids will shoot whatever they want till they turn 16. Then we will start putting some restrictions on them slowly cause we don't wanna burn them out. But they both have their sights set on big ones this year!

Also this is a great example of waiting the right amount of time to go track a deer with a bad shot.. as a tracker I see it way to often people go in to early and bump the deer out of its first bed , if they were to wait most likely they find them dead in their first bed , great job!

@ The Deer Society.....Great job on a great buck! What a stud!
Ally is shooting to my draw weight. If she can't hold her bow straight out and pull it straight back it's too heavy. I know this from personal experience and my wife. She can draw 50lbs but the same way ally drew her bow. It cost answer a stud (178" 12pt) cause she sat in the cold for 5 hours n was to cold to draw. Backed her down to 40lbs and 3 days later she killed her 3rd total.... 199" 16pt in -3degree temp

Maybe u can get that big 8 this year on October 18th. Morning hunts on 🦌 that don't have to move much in the early season is like cancer to a bowhunter. I pulled cameras that were up on a 🌳 100 yards apart for 2 weeks in central MN. The best activity was the crack of dawn which was a bummer. Little deer in the evening except for a few adolescent ones which led me to the conclusion that when eggcorn crops r poor u r better to stay out until that magic time in October during that false heat period that Ali capitalized on last year. Congrats on your hunt 👏.

The worst feeling ever is when you make a bad hit, going from an extreme hight to the lowest of lows. Been hunting for 25 years and i can still remember my first shot on a deer it was a gut shot. S*** happens and you learn from it. Best thing i tell myself to this day is compose yourself for the shot and lose your mind when you see him/her run off with holes their lungs!!!

Nice deer, especially for a first buck!
Not to take anything away from the advertising, I’ve never tried the phase scent control… but I would say it had more to do with the proximity, and your scent blowing over the buck. If a deer gets truly downwind nothing you put on is covering the stink of human. At most you can hope the smell is minimized enough so that they believe you’re further away or were there earlier in the day and scent is fading.

I say this as someone that has a few steaks left in my freezer from my husband’s 2021 deer and looking forward to (hopefully) mounting his 2022 Buck.
