  • I remember my first beer…it turned me red. 1 in 3 people with East Asian descent get the Alcohol Flush Reaction. It isn’t just uncomfortable and embarrassing for some people. It’s also a warning for major health risks.
You can even find out if you have the ALDH2 deficiency without drinking alcohol. It’s called an Ethanol Patch Test: You apply ethanol to a band aid and place it on your skin for 20 minutes. If enough acetaldehyde isn’t absorbed in the skin, the blood vessels will dilate and the area will turn red.

Ever since my gastric bypass, even one sip does this to me. I get really sick and can't metabolize my alcohol.

Interesting... Is that a common side effect?
I guess the doctors bypassed the section needed to metabolize alcohol properly.
