Hearing about David's correspondence with a lot of famous people, especially in the last years of his life is somehow comforting. Because there are so many stories like these. I genuinely believe despite him leading a life more out of the spotlight he was happy and had a fulfilled life.

Bowie was influenced by The Yardbirds and Keith Relf early in his career. Bowie even covered a Yardbirds song on his album PinUps in 1973. Does not Eric Clapton know this? Why not?

Why did two musicians in the Bee Gees band who were not the Gibb Brothers pulled an Eric Clapton on Robin Gibb?

It's always interesting to hear how these old giants relate to one another, who knows whom and who doesn't. Who knew that Clapton and Bowie were all but strangers? Yet in the good British tradition it's still 'Old sock." Good story.

I wonder if it wasn't Old Sot, not Sock, and that Bowie simply let Eric run with the misquote. Just a thought. We'll never know, unless it was in a written communication and not a phone conversation.

From an old English definition that holds today..."one who is stupefied with drink"

Cory Britton Well both Clapton and Bowie both famously had sobriety issues at one time. I'd imagine that's why he'd think it was old sot maybe.

I'd love to see Clapton covering Bowie's "Where Are We Now?"

Gui Porto Yes:-) I'd be cool if he altered the lyrics somewhat to relate to significant times/places for him(Clapton) though.

H's right about the song. Bowie was looking back on his life "a man lost in time." It is a song that also "gets me" every time.

Showed a little homage for fellow guitarist Gary Moore who had died not too long before this album was made. Gary Moore could be among the most underrated guitarists out there but Eric seems to have liked his stuff.

They sound so much alike. EC sounds a dead ringer for Bowie on White Room.

It's funny but I absolutely would have guessed they had a least met each other on many occasions. I think I imagine musical genuine parties to which they are invited and they jam together and then take balloon rides together like the "pretty people" in the poem. In a place where "everyone's in love and flowers pick themselves."
