Souli, my dad also had the NSU 200cc the only one of its kind in Piraeus. I remember him saying he bought it from the main dealers in Athens near Fix brewery. He had kept it in immaculate condition for 17 years. That was the time when I was of age to take over this beauty, unfortunately the old man didn't like the idea and sold it to a cousin that lived in Perama. What a pity, I've always loved this masterly build machine. Every time I look of the photo of me as a 10 year old sitting on it and imagined I was riding it.....brings tears in my eyes. Fifty four years later still think and brouse the internet reminiscing of these lovely years. What a beautiful bike, I can still hear the unique sound of its engine, reminding me the old man is coming back from work.

The NSU Supermax (1958) was my first motorcycle in 1968. Unfortunately the engine died of a connecting rod bearing failure, so I had to disassemble it to install a crankshaft from another engine.
Defective connecting rod bearings were a common failure, but it is said that there were roller bearings with a reinforced bearing cage.
I found many design elements later on the HONDA CB72. The Japanese had copied many things from Germany at that time, in order to develop them further.

A fellow named Honda was an admirer of these bikes and it is easy to see their influence in his designs. Elements of the engine in the Maxes were carried through to the two cylinder engines in the Sport Prinz cars. These really are beautifully made machines, inside and out. I always thought NSU's name actually derived from Neckarsulm Strickmaschinen Union, not NeckarSUlm?

I was quite pleased to be given a basket case Super a few years ago and just a few days ago bought a complete and running Special. I'll have to track down the restorer you mentioned.

The Max was a delectable bike, so advanced it could be manufactured today. Post-WWII, NSU re-made its fortunes with the cheap & cheerful 'Quickly' - the Honda 50 of its day.
If you look at a 'Max' carefully, you will find many similarities to the 1960s Honda 'Dream'. Accidental? I doubt it. One production line ended as a new one began. I suspect the 'Dream' twin design was bought by Honda from NSU as an abandoned project. Sadly, by that time NSU was more interested in making cars.

@rony4652 si eso parece, pero esa es una de las diferencias entre la max y la super max que si los tiene como usted dice
ademas de que la max es "monoshock" un compensador central y la supermax tiene dos compensadores traseros.

I had a 250 Max, from a business perspective they got it wrong , as they were so well made they rarely needed spares.
The Japanese sell vehicles at about break-even and make the profit on spares 😂😂

"Eccentric" not "articulated" great machine, I had a "Supermax".
