"Porque" - Chavacano song by David DiMuzio feat. Aria Clemente
It's one of my goals to record a great song of every major Filipino dialect, and give it my own new interpretation. This song was written by Whey Guevara and recorded by his band Maldita from Zamboanga City (now known as UNiCA). There is so much talent & emotion in the melody/lyric writing of so many local Filipino songs, and I feel that by giving some of them a fresh makeover a larger audience of both Filipinos (of all dialects) and foreigners will embrace them. If you really like our version I hope you'll share it with your friends :)

Chavacanos son los latinos y latinas de Asia. La canción " Porque " es un ejemplo de la cultura latina distinta de las Chavacanos en comparación con otros Filipinos . Chavacanos debería estar orgulloso de ser las únicas personas Hispanas en las Filipinas y Asia. Chavacano is the only Spanish creole language in Asia. And it is the only Spanish based dialect in the Philippines. The Chavacanos are considered as the Latins of Asia. A Spaniard, Latin American, and a Chavacano can easily understand and communicate with each other. This language and people are truly unique and special.
I miss my hometown so much. Chavacano is such a great language. Zamboanga City "Asia's Latin City"....

I'm bisaya and i don't understand whatever they're singing but wow! Filipinos should make more multi-dialect songs aside from tagalog. We have so many beautiful dialects which we should be very proud of! :))

I speak Spanish and I can understand cancion (heart). Spanish and Chavacano both have (are?) official languages and are more important in the Philippines.

Glad you're enjoying my music/videos :) ...regarding the sound of each language that I sing in, I just try to listen closely to the sound of the language to imitate the vowel/consonant sounds, and from there with each cover the musical and stylistic sound of the singing I try to make "my own" :) ...I'll have a lot more Filipino covers coming later this year, and a couple cool surprises. This is what make me proud of all Zamboangeño. When I was in Zamboanga before, loves to sing this song (that time, this song was not that really known in Manila). I rather choose pure Chavacano rather than Tagalog-Chavacano version because the rhythm of the song has a soul of its own.

I am Successful the formal one is very close to Spanish. It would be "Soy muy orgulloso de nuestra idioma" in it. Kind of odd considering the Spanish hadn't been in your country for quite a while.
Cedie1230 i'm referring to Formal Chavacano and not Spanish itself. Spanish uses "Soy" but Chavacano doesn't. Spanish is pure while Chavacano is considered a creole or broken one.
+I am Successful I agree with you that there is no conjugation but we can never deny that Chavacano is the only unique language in the Philippines. I studied in Spain at Instituto Cervantes and I do speak Catalan too. We need to respect the language as it changes too. Even in Spain there are some new words created by young generations but we need to learn the proper language. In Chavacano, it will still remained as it is..;) I have been a trainer in a BPO company in Manila and it was easy for me to teach Spanish to trainees if there are from Zamboanga City. They are now earning a lot and compensated because of this Second language.

I love the song and i learned playing it on guitar but what really amazed me is the so- called chavacano dialect. How i wish i was born in Zamboanga. Its 90-95% Spanish language they are speaking out there. You already have an advantage when you traveled or work abroad because English and Spanish are the top 2 largest spoken language in the world.
Dan Allan Villareal Hi I am from Zamboanga. Our dialect were made up of 80% Spanish only and not 90-95% just fro clarification. The other 30% were mixtures of Ilonggo, Bisaya, Bahasa Sug, Portuguese, Subanon, Sama Bangingi, Bahasa Melayu, Tagalog, Filipino, and Nahuatl (a Native American language). We practice 2 forms or versions of our dialect: Formal (used in some school who teach Spanish or Chavacano, used in government, used by elders before, used in formal speech and formal documents) and the Common (used in house, by friends, or by the common public)...We also had 3 ways of speaking: Formal speaking (respectful, for elders, for higher in authority, for parents, for older siblings), Informal (for equal state or for friends) and the Disrespectful (contains words that were considered disrespectful or informal to all ages).

Chabacano es un idioma,
no dialecto
I want to learn Chavacano because its the only creole based on spanish/ latin languages here in the Philippines/ Asia. Im a Filipino and my bloodline has Hispanic or Spanish lineage on it and i could understand some chavacano words and sentences... i think if i have a formal training i could be a good chavacano speaker... Its great that this creole survived and is flourishing here in the philippines!

Many Filipinos believe to be of Spanish descent, but once they take an actual blood test to check their DNA, not even a drop of Spanish is in their bloodline. I have ancestors that came from Spain, and about four generations my family spoke Spanish after arriving in the Philippines, but they were not Spanish, but Italian and Portuguese.
Yet, there are Filipinos even today, that will claim to be half Spanish, and when asked which one of their parents are from Spain, they have a dumbfounded look, when they reply both of their parents have never been to Spain, and both are born and raised in the Philippines.

I was born and raised in Zamboanga city before I studied in Spain and living in Saudi Arabia now. I speaks Spanish, Arabic, and Urdu fluently but Chavacano made me as what I am now. My mom is a native Zamboangueño from Ayala of Francisco y Macaso and I miss this city. Yo quiero escuchiar con este cancion todo hora! Felicidades con ellos!

My grandparents were all of Spanish descent, my paternal grandma being a half breed and so was her mother-in-law. My maternal side too were Hispanics and everyone looked Eurasian with dirty blonde and red hairs popping up here and there. They spoke Hiligaynon with more Spanish words and tenses that this song just evoked childhood memories when the household was using Spanish creole in everyday use. Those were the days that I miss it so much and this song just reminded me on of my heritage once again. Thank you for the song!

wow..I'm frm Zamboanga City, but my 1st language is Tagalog, second is Chavacano..3rd are bisaya,tausug..(English is always present)..and i was just listening to all these pack of songs as LIST, then heard this Porque..sang by you(David) w/ duet..you're so cool :D you can easy adapt diff. languages..hope you can also speak chavacano :D It's very interesting language w/ mixed of spanish.. Nuay difisil el Chabacano. Pero necesita tu el gente de Zamboanga para sabe tu el idioma.
First learn the tenses of the verbs! You'll go off with a great start and surround yourself with Chabacano speakers (Cavitenio or Zamboangenio).
Here's what I'd do before diving into Chabacano, learn a good amount of Spanish for the vocabulary, learn how to form sentences in Tagalog and Chabacano will come to you more naturally.
