I switched back to Origin... bc of EA App download speeds

- a few weeks ago I switched from Origin to the EA App because Origin is meant to stop working some time this year (we still don't know when). however I had issues with the EA App like download speeds being halted (even when repairing my game) and Sims 4 taking longer to load so I redownloaded Origin and am gonna use it for as long as I can

The offline issue is the concern for me. I haven't switched, and won't until I am forced to. I live in the woods, where the power and internet likes to go out with the slightest breeze. We have a generator for the power, but there is nothing I can do about an online connection. Origin is great at allowing me to play the Sims during a power outage, in offline mode. If they can't figure out how to allow people to play this way without first logging on, it's kind of pointless. EA really needs to get their act together!
Still waiting for EA to make OUR (purchased) games to work offline without receiving this message:
"we've detected a manual time change on your device."

The EA app offers offline mode but I receive one of the following messages above within 30min of playtime.
EA have found a way to lie by placing a messages (box) on the screen which forces you to close the game.
Same I live in the woods and I was forced to switch to the EA app five days ago. I’m STILL MAKING THE SWITCH. It’s taken two days of troubleshooting like it’s my full time job to get it to open, and for three days I have been downloading this ONE game... it still has 32 hours of downloading left for base game, alone. if I were a new simmer who hadn’t invested hundreds of dollars and thousands of hours in the game, I wouldn’t be. I just wouldn’t bc this is way too much trouble for something I might not even be able to use.

Just dealt with this myself! internet went out, so naturally my go-to offline game is the Sims. I made the switch to EA App because I figured I'd have to *e v e n t u a l l y,* and it wouldn't open. Literal first thing I did when the internet came back was uninstall EA App and redownload Origin.
Kinda ass that we have to fight for basic things like... offline play for a game that doesn't require an internet connection. But wouldn't be EA if they made anything easy.
I feel so bad for you gang. Why tf do they make us sign in or even do certain shit for games that aren’t even online base played

I was forced to switch because I couldn’t start my games if I didn’t, and since then I can barley launch my games, today I haven’t even been able to launch any game for multiple hours…

Such a joke how ea treat the people that buy their games, like how can you kick people on to a new launcher that won’t allow them to play the games they have bought🤷🏼♂️

Some people that bought fifa23 when it was released in September has still not been able to launch the game lol or they have been able to u til the ea app got forced on to them and since then haven’t been able to start their game.
It crazy how big companies can get away with that.
And thanks btw, it made me happy that it started working directly when I changed to origin again.
We should be allowed to have the choice to switch to be honest, I haven’t had a whole lot of issues, the only main issue is the download speeds

I suspect that they haven't given a solid "switch" date for the app because of the problems people have been experiencing. I am glad that I still have Origin and didn't believe that they were going to switch us by the first of the year.
i play sims 2 a lot and i live in fear of having to switch over because a lot of people no longer have access to their sims 2 and when they message ea help they get told to "just play the sims 3 or 4 lol"
Ugh that is such a huge fear for me.
there's a modded for sims 2 who made a separate launch pad, i haven't downloaded it yet but i know people have done that to avoid this whole mess
Sims 2 has been fixed on EA App a couple of days ago.
mine works fine on the ea app, i literally just switched to the ea app a few days ago tho
I installed sims2 via disk and didn't add sims2 to the launcher
But now when I open Origin, EA is literally blocking and forcing to update to that shitty EA app. I can't even open or download games

Like everyone that got the recent origin update, you are forced with the pop up to switch, its like the whole reason for the update. I tried redownloading origin but I just get a pop up saying to update EA app. I really hate that they are forcing our hand on some thing that is no fully ready 😤

@@kemij4796 that sucks I really tried to hold on till the end. Luckily I still have the main games I play. Tested it out on my laptop first and the only issue I have is the download issue, were it’s really slow got me questioning if it’s my internet, PC or what. Not sure if this other issue simply EA in general but sometimes when I open the game it acts like I don’t have the DLCs. Luckily just restating the game reboot that error.

Bottom line: This app wasn’t ready to be taken out of Beta. Especially not to force everyone to switch, when it obviously doesn’t work for everyone. They should be running both and that takes the traffic burden off Origin AND the EA app.

Surprisingly I've never gotten the popup to switch from origin so I've never used to EA app. I think they should leave it as an option to switch for now until they get all the bugs out and the app is no longer a struggle for people to use since it clearly was not ready for launch at all.
My games wont launch now on that new app . Fcn great all i wanted to games i spend lots of moneys on wont even launch.

I would have been yelling at my computer 😆. I'm sorry you had to go through that- this is really crazy to me. I wish they'd placed more care before they released this silly app- and I certainly hope they do something to fix this before windows players are forced off, and before they alas make an app for Mac too. (I'd be 100 fine without ever getting an app). Idk, this worries me a bit for sims 5 too, but maybe that is premature worry. Thanks for sharing this.
Edit: I obviously cannot speak to experiences with the new app. Origin I have had some mild hiccups here and there- but have been solved by closing and relaunching, and it doesn't happen often.
I can see the community being like "remember the EA app that had a beta period? So this is going to be buggy no matter how long the beta period is" but gee the same company made perfect ts1-3. I have to wonder if not many took part in beta, now everyone was told to switch over and oh look issues that probably would have been found if enough people took part in beta 🤔

I downloaded the EA app during the beta, I used it with pretty little issues. There was a point though where it didn't register some of the packs I had so I switched to Origin without a problem. Its been okay since then but I can pretty much switch back and forth on my end without issue.
Thanks so, so much for posting this video! I switched to the EA app before the end of 2022 because I thought that it'll be mandatory sooner, so before I'd be forced, I installed it. I had no problems, longer loading times aside, so I thought I dodged the bullet that other simmers suffered with it. Until the Jan.17th update. I was unable to install it. It froze my laptop on the first try (I could only use the task manager) and the following attempts had the same result, plus it stopped at 60-61%. I tried repairing it, it stopped at 60% again, cleaned the app's cache, same thing, uninstalled the ame and the reinstalling stopped at, yes, 60%. And while I was desperately looking for solutions for days, I stumbled upon your video. I can't thank you enough!! The game reinstalled fast and on the first try and I can play the game again without a problem! Thanks for the video and the origin link!

I hate all this digital crap they should put the games back on disk then I don’t have worry about my game not being able to install and download speeds and repurchasing packs I already bought.
Well you can't use Origin any more they abandoned it. EA App is CRAP ! I lost my Wish List, it's not intuitive and user friendly and it's starting my NVIDIA HUD layout without starting the game for no reason.. Origin was so much better. I hate EA App.

I downloaded the EA App shortly after your video. Then we bought a new computer, and I had to redownload The Sims 4 base game and all of the add-ons (through the EA App). It all went well, except that I saw kits and packs downloading that I knew I owned, but, for whatever reason, weren't listed in my Collection. So, EA knew I owned those add-ons, but didn't list them on the App.

Back in October I was gifted a Sims 3 stuff pack, and while it was purchased on Origin, I got a pop-up saying I could only download it on the EA app, so I switched then. The EA app told me I didn't own that stuff pack and would not let me download it. I was able to get into both Sims 3 and Sims 4, but all of my stuff from the Sims 3 store was gone (and there was a lot, because I've been collecting it piecemeal with Daily Deals for a long time). When I went to the Sims 3 store to try to redownload items, I couldn't download anything. But the last straw was when I kept getting kicked out of whichever game I was playing whenever I lost internet connection (which, due to the unique circumstances of my very old house, happens a lot if I'm on wifi). I was pretty livid; just try immersing yourself in a game that you get kicked out of every 15 - 30 minutes. So I went back to Origin and am staying there. And while the stuff pack still wouldn't download from Origin at first, it downloaded fine a couple of weeks later, so I was a much happier simmer then!
Do you have the link to download origin? It keeps redirecting me to EA app when I try to download Origin.
When the patch preparing for the kits came through, I initially couldn't even get the EA app to proceed past the preparing download stage. I ended up moving it to a drive with more space (even though the drive I was using should have had enough space) and then the patch took one hour to download, when in Origin, it would have taken closer to five minutes. And that was also with unlimited download speed checked!
I don't have Twitter, but I brought this to EA Answers HQ earlier this week. Still haven't heard back from anyone in support.
Now EA app i have a Download error and kept saying preparing endlessly . Even when I Uninstalled and reinstalled the EA App it's still a problem.

The EA Launcher REFUSES to install/download/open/play The Sims 3 for me!
I've been hunting around the internet for DAYS trying to find a fix, and nothing has worked so far!
No solutions, no known causes, nothing.
I have over $100 of content that I have NO ACCESS to! Please! Help.
I switched around November because it wasn't acknowledging the newest packs after purchase. I asked for help on the forums and I was ignored. The other day I was experiencing problems with it not recognising any of my DLC, and the tech advisor literally just told me to download Origin and use that again. So I tried it understanding that getting to play with most packs is better than no packs, but it actually recognised newer packs. This was weird because I had uninstalled and reinstalled last time. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
The first time I downloaded the EA app, I could not purchase any packs for the sims 4 and got really stressed. I uninstalled the app and tried to redownload origin but, every time I tried that, it forced me to reinstall the EA app, only causing more stress. Luckily, after trying about 10 times to keep origin, I just tried purchasing the packs that I originally wanted to buy on the EA app and, thankfully, it worked. I don't know how or why it worked only after reinstalling the EA app but I'm glad it did.
The EA app is a piece of ****. It auto pauses my downloads multiple times. It only downloads about 1GB, then pauses my download. It mind blowing how a bug like this exists. I have to babysit this app
The issue I’m having is that the EA app keeps downloading the entire sims game instead of just the update. When I click the update it will redownload the entire game, I don’t realise it’s doing it until it takes all my gigabytes then says I have no space. Well yeah.. that’ll do that if you’re trying to download a game I already have downloaded. and so I’m having to delete the EA app. Redownload origin and even tho I can’t do anything on origin since that stupid pop up is in the way. Updates will automatically download. After origin does it’s thing I have no issues but I can’t keep doing that and I’m unsure what to do when/if they get rid of origin and I’m stuck with the EA app. Hopefully they will fix this.

I was forced to switch and now i cant use mods in game with ea app for some reason. Yes, i have the mods enabled, the mods folder with the game, all of it. Nothing.
I play on MAC. And I saw that there is currently no plan to stop using Origin. So MAC players shouldn’t have a pop up or prompt to switch because the EA app is not available on MAC.

EA SUCKSSSS it took 3.5 hours for the new update of the sims 4 to install... and now it won't even let me open the app.
The EA desktop app is such shit. It takes years to download games and no matter how many times I try clearing cache or repairing, it still manages to take hours to download my games. I never had this issue with Origin

Last month, I installed the EA app by my own choice, unaware that there were major issues with it for a lot of gamers. Sims 4 seems to work fine at that time. But for Mass Effect LE, I couldn't get mods to work with the app, so I re-installed Origin and sticking with it til I'm forced to use EA. I have now heard so many horror stories that I fear at some point the EA app might eventually mess with my games too. My Origin was recently updated. So far, no pops ups forcing me off of it yet.

@@issamari2689 It didn't force me out til a couple of days ago. It looks like EA is forcing the migration by groups of people at a time. I seem to be one of the few lucky ones. So far, no issues that most people have. Still I worry EA app going to screw up something, so I got backups of my Sims 4 files just in case it wipes it out of existence.
I've been using the EA app since it was first announced that Origin would be unsupported in 2023, because Origin is too bright for me and I like the sleeker design of EA app and...yeah download speeds are so bad. I had the same experience with repairing the game, and installing new packs for the first time is...An Event.
I downloaded EA app on a new pc but I don't have the normal map folders like saves and tray. So where do I put my old files? 😢

I don't know how to get my mods with the EA app (if it's even possible, if not, rip I guess I'm quitting sims) so while I still try to use origin... I LITERALLY cannot. Every time I launch it I get an ea app pop-up that won't go away and I cannot launch my game.
This is interesting. There was a beta period, but with comments i see about EA; I have to wonder how many people took part in the beta period vs now people switching because we have to ...or is it now had to? Now if thousands did take part in having the beta EA app, it's kinda interesting to think what happened? A year of beta when the app seems to had been great. 🤔 I'm not one to jump to "typical EA not testing their products."

Anyone who willingly uses Origin does not seem to understand the impact it has on your PC. If you have a High-End PC you may not notice at all, but for others Origin murders the performance and general speed of your PC. By default, it will constantly be scanning your personal files, EVEN WHEN ORIGIN IS CLOSED! This is part of the 'Allow data collection to help improve Origin' option (or something like that.) This is on by default, and they make it a HUGE pain in the ass to turn off. I've had it turn itself back on a week after turning it off. If all you play is Sims and that's what makes you happy, then you probably haven't noticed it and think Origin is great. In that case whatever, but EA is a very scummy company and cares little for actual gamers. They also bully devs into shipping out cash grab GARBAGE by forcing deadlines and shoving bad monetization practices down their throats till all passion for their game has died. Don't believe me? Take a look at the situation with Anthem. I wouldn't doubt for a second that the EA app is just like this. Unfortunately, I would like to play Dragon Age and can't avoid using either of these platforms to do so.
The problem is, if their app server is having issues and can't connect, then it can't connect to push the message that they're having issues... but yes, there should be a clear "can't connect" error, perhaps that links to a status page (their website or twitter or whatever) so you can click the link and find out if the servers are up (problem likely on your end) or down (problem on their end).

Two days ago I downloaded the High School pack and a couple of the small packs and took ages to download. I had drops of 20-10 kb/s when my internet was fine. I didn't overthink about it so I waited, but exploring the HS pack I noticed that in CAS with Ash Harjo (the trans sim used in the promos) the tray with the first and last name was glitching. It happened before at times randomly when I got sims from the gallery, so I started to think that the glitching problem was because of the pronouns update.
When I tried to switch the language to English and see if I was right, surprise! You CAN'T change the language of a game through the EA app. Luckly I still had the Origin download program in my computer and got it again.
It all was so annoying. Firstly they promote the EA app when it's so poorly implemented. Even the guide in the offcial website explains how to change the language with Origin only!!
Secondly of course they had to break something with an update, the pronouns update in this case.
It was a double slap in the face for speaking another language. EA forgets about us constantly and still brags about supporting 19 ish languages.

EA app worked okay for me on sims 4 until the latest update for the game. EA app even mocked me and popped up a wee notification "No..." whenever I want to update my game.

It’s strange because since getting the EA App my speeds have been better!! I have horrific wifi, I usually only get 3mb max but now I’m getting 5/6mb which I know is still awful but it’s because of where I live :,(

There's a workaround to still use Origin.
This has been SOOOO helpful! I was pushed into downloading EA App by the EA pop-up notification when I logged into Origin at the end of December. It worked well until I purchased the Bathroom Clutter and Simitates kits when they dropped. I couldn't download them because the app would halt the download then grey the button out so I could try to redownload! It was very frustrating. I called and spoke with EA tech support but they were not helpful and I just got the generic response that "EA is aware the problem and is working on it..." My husband never got the push notification to update his Origin and it works just fine. I jumped on his computer and logged into Origin, and voila! I was able to download the kits! Thank you for the link to redownload Origin. I have already uninstalled EA App and will redownload Origin. I hope all goes well!
I haven't use Origin for a while. I just tried reinstalling and now I'm forced to use EA App. Here the thing... all my games are gone. How do i get access to my Origin library on EA?

When I updated The Sims4 on steam EA popped up and I had no idea why? I was going to close EA window when it says “Closings this window will cancel your installation” which I thought it was talking about what I already update.
So I clicked “continue install” while it was done installing on the screen it “uninstalling Origin” which I didn’t like
it was a quick load I login like it was my origin account I when to settings, Application and turn of “application updates” everything was normal and still on my collection(The Sims4)
The only problem (which isn’t huge by the way) is when I loaded into the game on steam. Everything was good. It’s just the lay out icons (if that’s what they’re called) look very weird now like uneven type? Idk it just looks weird

I had to re-download the sims 3 on EA app and all the packs because the app didn’t recognise I had sims 3 Seasons installed. I tried to look for an answer on forums but no one could fix. Luckily I stumbled on ur video and I’m going definitely going back to Origin and see how it goes

The kits downloaded quick for me, the patch update took almost 3 hours to download
my the sims 4 ea download is taking ages. Its been now 5 days till i wanted to download it...2 days for the preparing and 3 days just to make it go up to 5%. I got jumpscared by the 2672890 hour thing it sayed lol. Pls help me if anybody knows how to speed it up 😭😭
I made the switch to the EA app because I don't want to deal with Origins just one day not functioning when I go in to play Sims. I prefer Origins instead but so long as it's still slated to be replaced then I don't feel comfortable going back to it.

Thank you for this video!! It drove me crazy! With the EA app, I could play base game but ALL of my DLCs never showed up in game, despite doing everything possible to fix it. I tried asking for refunds so I could just move completely to Steam but of course they refused and just gave me the origin link. At least for now it all works again with Origin but I swear to god if they drop Origin and the EA app still doesn’t work…. 😤
I am having some issues to run TS4 offline, when I need to play....and the downloads are also slow, for sure!! Good to know that we can still have Origin...I'm thinking about to back to it after your tip!!!
Origin doesn't even work anymore. No offline mode on EA app, and even when I am connected to the internet, it doesn't recognize that I'm connected to it. wtf

I bought some sims 4 game packs in EA app, and they did not show up in the game, i tried to contact costumer service, but they did not help at all! I was crying because i couldn't get the packs in. I downloaded Origin again although there was a little pop-up window that said that i had to switch, but Origin fixed it and i got my packs! But damn i was so maaad!!
And now EA forcing players to download their stupid EA App, I tried EA App before and it's really annoying because mods will not work on that stupid app

Hope, You try everything in your power, we always had problems with the app Origin in the past like updates, EA has always partner with origin, we had to through EA login to play Sims on Origin keep the faith
I actually haven’t faced any problems on EA app, compared to origin which never worked for me
im really frustrated because I just switched over and it didnt transfer my packs and wants me to repurchase them all. Its not clear to me how I can fix this; Im sure theres a way but I wish it was easier

I lost all my origin games when i was forced to switch to ea app :/ and support they dont do anything about it i have created over 10 cases still nothing…
How did you send your cases?

Lost everything bc i was force into the EA that i didn't want.
i haven't switched over at all, i still use origin. i prefer origin, it's what i've known since i had the sims 4 (since christmas of 2014) and i'll only switch when i am forced to. hopefully the ea app is easy to use like origin is, but... idk...
I downloaded the EA app because I was scared, and I really feel all of this you know. That app is not it. It really isn't. The last update took literally an hour and 45 minutes which is complete insanity. I also wanted to dump in here in case anyone is having this problem and losing their mind, I'd been having a problem where the EA app was like 'You don't own Sims 4' when I would launch Sims 4 literally from the EA app which said it was installed and everything. Restarting the app didn't help but restarting the computer did, which is annoying but just in case anyone is like ahhhhh what do I do 😂 I hope they fix this whole thing soon, but I doubt it 🤷♀
Is anyone using windows? I recently replaced origin with the new ea app on windows and I now can’t launch sims 3, I’ve tried everything and it still says it’s an issue on their part. Ea help was useless as well, they said they’d use my case as an example but still no solution. I wonder if there’s a way to get origin on windows still?
Over the years I’ve spent a lot of money on the expansion packs so I’m furious with ea at this point

I thought things were going well since I switched to the EA app, but after watching this I’m not so sure. I thought the problems I am having were just normal Sims 4 glitches, but now I’m wondering if it’s the EA app. My biggest problem is I’ve been losing days. Like when I come back to my saves, it was Wednesday in the save and now it’s Friday. So I’ve just turned off aging because it’s just too hard to get things done on normal lifespan when I lose days time I stop playing.
that probably is just a sims bug to be fair. the launchers don’t really affect in-game stuff like days etc

Today I was forced to download the EA APP.I could not load my game went searching for clues and help.After listening to you I sent EA HELP A COMPLAINT shortly after I noticed that my online games I purchased was showing I did not own them in the EA APP BUT anything that was on disk was owned by me.I went online and clicked one game I owned and noticed it connected to EA.Mind you I'm currently playing in an online puchased world but I did not click on that particular world.But by clicking that world I noticed it trying to connect to the EA APP.Right after without doing anything else I went back to my game and now I Can play it.I hope this info helps everyone
I also had problems with the game taking ages to update when on the EA app. I've been using both platforms for a while after having problems with Origin not working properly on and off. But it works great at the moment.
