This still reigns as my all-time favorite album. I was in a deep music slump when it came out in 2017, and this brought me out of it. Coming from hearing mostly mainstream cookie cutter music, this opened up a whole new world of complex and thoughtful musicality. If you come into it expecting FF or HB you'll be disappointed, but as a stand-alone work it's fantastic. On both a musical and lyrical level it's so rewarding on multiple and close listens. Evocative without being (overly) pretentious. There's still yet to be another album that has entranced me as much as this one, although rumor has it Robin is working on crack-up part 2 so fingers crossed🤞🏻 And as usual, great analysis from you both! Even if just own your own, you all might want to look at Robin's solo works and covers, including those under the moniker "White Antelope." Songs like "Olivia in a separate bed," "Derwentwater Stones," "I let you," etc. are all great and give a little more insight into where Robin was at between HB and CU.
Are you going to do the 2 Eps they started with? The Fleet Foxes is 6 songs and good but raw. And Sun Giant is 5 songs all of which are amazing, maybe the best they've ever done.
I like this album more than Helplessness Blues, which is saying a lot, as that was my favorite album in 2015. _Crack-Up_ now resides as a perennial fixture of my Top 10. Speaking of favorite albums, heady folk, and Fleet Foxes, please react to my very favorite album, _Ys_ by Joanna Newsom. She's good friends with Robin Pecknold, the frontman of Fleet Foxes, and he actually got back into the swing of writing music after attending university (consequently, for this very album) by opening for her solo on tour. _Ys_ is a lush pastoral panorama that holds within it tragedy and the endurance of the human spirit.
My favorite album!! I had a journey with this one, it was the last of their projects I got into. When I heard it for the first time it just didn't click, and I was a huge fan of their music already, I just kept listening to the other lps (shore included) until I came around to it a whole year later and got hooked. It ages so well the more you listen to it, some songs like I Should See Memphis just clicked even more in my brain at the 100th time listening to them, it's crazy. I think it's their best now, Third of May is just incredible. I would also recommend listening to the choral version of Crack-Up they released as a single, it's gorgeous.
The next album is shore to be a good one! Haha.... I crack myself up sometimes. I'm a rather helpless fellow when it comes to jokes. It's okay though! Over the years, I've learned it's not good to be blue about one's helplessness.

This is my favorite Fleet Foxes album. Its their most ambitious. This is damn near a 10 album
Also fellas, you have to do Adrianne Lenker - Songs if you haven't heard it yet.
