Thanks for all the wellmade and informative videos! I've received my FLOW 8 yesterday and I'm still discovering a new feature here and there. But I stumbled over an issue, that I can't remember you mentioning. And I think it should be mentioned and could be a possible deal-breaker: You can not move 2 Faders at once. Physically you can of course, but the leftmost fader takes priority and the other movements will be ignored and the OFFSET-LED lights up on the latter. So you basically can't cross-fade between two channels. (Please read the EDIT on the bottom of the comment) It also makes the mixer more inert that it needs to be and it can trip you up in a busy live situation when you are not consciously factoring it in. I really hope that fix this by a future software update. I would gladly accept that the display would only relfect one of the faders movements. Other than that I'm really happy with all the features it has. It's pretty much perfect for my use cases. A great device for its price! EDIT: I figured out that it the 2-fader-issue I described above only happens in the monitor section in the linked-monitor-mode! It's not nearly as bad as if it would happen in the main section!
I've enjoyed having it on the desktop, looking forward to seeing what everyone does with them as they start to get out in the world more. Keep in touch & let us know how it works for you!
@@DcSoundOp My Flow 8 arrived today. Haven't been able to do too much in a few hours, but it's pretty exciting. Hi, i am new in mixer control interface and may have a very stupid question. i wanted to use 5L, 6R, 7L and 8R as a seperate mono input, where i can plug in Keys in 5L, GTR1 in 6R, Vdrums in 7L and GTR2 in 8R. Can i do this with mono in each inputs? Currently i am only hearing either L or R signal on each of these inputs. I am using TRS 1/4 inch jacks for each of these inputs. Is there any special jacks i need to use or, is there anyway i can the achieve the above requirements? I am kinda stuck here...
Hi Asif, currently you cannot separate the stereo channels unfortunately on this mixer. I'm not sure if it is something they can do in the future with firmware, but it would be nice to see down the road. Thanks for the message!
Great video. One question occurs to me though. If 5 is Line Level and 6 is Hi-Z, if you plug a stereo source into them (similar signal going to both the L and the R routed inputs, will you get different levels and timbre or does plugging something into the L of the pair make the R of the pair line level too?
I have a question about the 1/4 inch 5/6 and 7/8 inputs, basically I’m trying to get audio in from a 1/8 TRS to a split 1/4 TS using channels 5/6. When I do this I only get audio out of the the left side (5). Wondering if I’m missing something in the app or if to get left and right I need to use TRS into 5/6, or would a single 1/8 TRS to 1/4 TRS cable into channel 5 give me a stereo image? Essentially I’m trying to get audio from an old MP3 players stereo headphone jack into the FLOW 8. Thanks for your time.
there are two efx sends, you can send any number of sources to the two efx engines using those two sends. It is not like a DAW where you can plugin random efx to any channel you want.
Since you brought up the line vs hi-Z TRS inputs, How does that affect the audio levels when using the complimentary 5/6 and 7/8 pairs fed equal level stereo inputs? I find the automatic feed to the complimentary channels interesting. How is the noise floor? Do mics need more signal boost than the system provides which is typical?
Because of you actually! Some manufacturers send over their new gear a bit early for us to check out on the channel because almost 20k people like yourself are subscribed. It might seem silly, but every view & share, like, comment and new subscriber really does make a difference. Thanks for the message & hello in Alaska! How do I route from my laptop to USB 5-6 or 7-8. It always ends up in the Bluetooth channel. It’s actually cool that I can run one source from Bluetooth and one usb and both end up on the Bluetooth channel. But I want to know how to use the faders from usb as opposed to the rotary.
Hi, thank you for your video! I have a question... in the app, section SETUP - PREFERENCES - MIXER APP LINK, which is the difference between INDEPENDENT and LAYERS FOLLOW? Thank you!
On independent, you can work on the app and switch layers around and do things and the mixer will stay on the layer you left it on. When set to FOLLOW, the mixer and app will mirror each other, so if you switch from MON to Main on the app, the mixer will also change to the Main layer. You might want to use independent and leave the mixer next to a musician on the layer that controls their monitor mix, then someone else can use the app to adjust the other monitor mix with them noticing, or mixing the main mix similarly. Does that help clear it up? Thanks for the great question.
I'm not sure what you mean by 'full audio interface' - do you have specific functions you are curious about using this unit with a DAW. Is Cubase requiring something specific to get interfaces to work with their DAW these days? I honestly haven't working on a project in Cubase since the early 2000's - I liked it then, but lost touch with it over the years. Let me know what you're curious about specifically & I'll do my best to answer your questions about the FLOW. Thx.
Hi, thanks, would it be possible to plug a stereo synth to 3 and 4 via the 1/4” and pan them permanently left and right to be treated as a stereo channel?
Hello, thank you for the video, is it possible to connect a lavalier mic that has 1/4 inch plug to the channel 5 or 7, I have a video podcast but my guests use lavalier mics and since I have from 3 to 4 guests and this mixer only has 2 combo jacks on channels 3 and 4, I'm wondering if I could use the other inputs for my other lavalier mics
Hi Musa, unfortunately those 1/4" inputs are for line level signals and won't have the gain you need to work with a lavalier mic, unless it's a wireless system that outputs line level from it's receiver via 1/4", which many of them do.
@@DcSoundOp Thank you for your answer. I finally bought the Flow8 and tried it with my Boya BY-M1 lav mics, these mics have a capsule with battery in it to be used with cameras that provide no power to the mic, I connected these mics to channels 5 and 7 and got them to work but with a gain of about 95%, this raises the noise floor a lot. I also have a wireless lav mic (Saramonic) and with this mic I only need about 45% gain to get a good signal. I need a solution for a video podcast but don't want to place dynamic microphones all over the guests' faces. Hi! have you measured if it colours the sound going in and out, and if the stereo image keeps centered when changing the master? I'm looking for a studio monitor controller with the possibility to route one calibrated signal to the monitors, and an other clean signal to a seperate sub/headphone. The Adient Nero does this, but at twice the cost.
@@DcSoundOp with clunky you refer to the interface? For me it looks like set it and forget it, but I have not used it nor have I dived deeper into how the thing is controlled. Thank you for your response!
I'm thinking how you'd typically use a monitor controller in everyday use. Being able to collapse mixes to mono quickly, A/B different sources or destinations against each other & things like that. There are a ton of other monitor controllers out there that are between in between the price of the FLOW & the Nero. You could certainly make a small mixer work if you really do just want to set it and leave it alone, but for the money I'd want the other features if you're buying it specifically as a monitor controller.
I know the monitor out Jack outputs are balanced TRS, but are the monitors strictly balanced mono, or can they work as unbalanced stereo in the same way as the headphones output?
@@DcSoundOp thanks for answering! On the one hand, stereo would be nice, but on the other, means I can use just a single wireless in ears transmitter and have 2 receivers for a nice compact setup!
Can I make the Monitor 1 be a mono version of the main mix? It is required to send the full mix to another location like the control room or house system. Would be nice if you could change the main volume, but all the channels etc are a clone of the whole mix. Rather than having to change the monitor channels to match the main channels each time you change them.
Thanks man for this informative video. My question is that for 5/6 to be used as a pair of stereo input, since 6R has different input impedance from 5L, does that mean that there will be slightly different sound character between the left and right channel?
Can I send both the main L/R XLR outputs (balanced) to a home stereo input device that accepts as input (unbalanced) either a jack stereo or RCA L/R? My thought here is using a cable adapter to connect both XLR to a jack stereo or RCA R/L. Thank you
Yes, you can absolutley do that. You would just need an XLR to RCA adapter for each of the L/R sides. Something like this should work... amzn.to/3R51SYC (that's an affiliate link).

Read into that what you will, I'd be shocked if anyone could tell the difference in a proper ABX double blind test. Can I ask seriously, what do you believe the difference is between the 'Midas Preamp' and the 'Midas Pro preamp' that you are asking about?
@@DcSoundOp I mean the midas grade preamp like what they use in Xair models. My question is is it using the midas preamp or just the midas grade like the x air models
I don't know what the difference is supposed to be. Their materials say the X-Air pres are 'award winning midas designed' - while the FLOW 8 is listed as two 'Midas microphone preamps with two additional XLR mic line inputs'. I have no idea what qualifies a circuit to be 'Midas designed' vs just 'Midas' and nowhere have I seen anything published that says 'Midas grade'.
Yes, for Stereo In-Ear monitors you need to link the two Axes so they act together as one send (this is done in the preferences menu) - or you can do two separate mono mixes.
Does anyone knows how can I setup an output for phones per each input? I want to record a podcast and each guest must have headphones to listen all the streaming and other guests
Hi I hope you can help me fix this. I just bought the flow 8 and a brand new MacBook. I installed simply put and Everything goes well until after I select the newest version (738 now) y click update. A legend comes up that reads… DFU ERROR 7: failed to prepare dfu update. The mini screen in the mixer stays red in update mode until I turn it off. One time the legend didn’t appear and it continued to update in the simply put but the mixer said UPDATE FAIL. If anyone could help me i would really appreciate it.
@@DcSoundOp I have tried new cables, different computers but still won’t update. A few times the update completes in the simply put but the mixer reads update fail. I don’t get why it just doesn’t work. I do believe it could be something about the usb speed. And since the MacBook has the C entry then I use an adapter, it is original and all.
Let's say you want to plug in a simple line level stereo output from the stereo phone jack on a cell phone. If you just plug in a 1/4" TRS STEREO plug into, say, 5L, will you get a stereo signal on fader 5/6? Is THAT what the STEREO/MONO label next to the jack means? Or must you use an audio adaptor to convert a stereo mini-jack to 2 1/4" mono plugs? So that was question 1. Here's question 2: If you want to feed the MAIN outputs, which are balanced, to the stereo mini-plug jack on a speaker system, how do you do that? Do you have to use a transformer to convert the balanced outputs to unbalanced, or can you just ground one of the legs of the balanced outputs? In other words, what is the best adaptor configuration to use to send the output to a stereo speaker system? Thanks for any help about this!

It has aux to put in ear?
Yes, for Stereo In-Ear monitors you need to link the two Axes so they act together as one send (this is done in the preferences menu) - or you can do two separate mono mixes.
Does anyone knows how can I setup an output for phones per each input? I want to record a podcast and each guest must have headphones to listen all the streaming and other guests
It sounds like you need a bigger mixer or at least a headphone amp. Are the guests all in the same room? Are they calling in from remote locations?
Hi I hope you can help me fix this. I just bought the flow 8 and a brand new MacBook. I installed simply put and Everything goes well until after I select the newest version (738 now) y click update. A legend comes up that reads… DFU ERROR 7: failed to prepare dfu update.
The mini screen in the mixer stays red in update mode until I turn it off.
One time the legend didn’t appear and it continued to update in the simply put but the mixer said UPDATE FAIL.
If anyone could help me i would really appreciate it.
Hey Tania, wanted to check in from our conversation last week & see if you got things working? Let us know how it's going if you can!
Excellent mate!
Thanks Steve, appreciate the feedback!
So in theory it's a 6 channels mixer uh? That is dumb as hell! I think I'm going to return mine 😡
Always amazing that folks can buy gear without reading a spec sheet first… and then get angry. Definitely return it if you’re not happy, but it’s not a six channel mixer.
