When Tyra Banks came under fire last year for her BS from this show, Jay Manuel released a statement about how he always felt some of the ideas were bad. He acts like none of it was his fault. But he’s also not that great... he was rude to the girls, and his “directions” and “constructive criticisms” were a JOKE.

    • @angelingray

    • @Nocturnalux

      He was absolutely complicit. Absolutely.
And it gets even worse, that model who got sexually harassed, while he was right there? He made fun of her then and is still joking about it now.
He has no redeeming value. His book is not a tell-all, it's his way of grab a buck while he's still somewhat relevant.
Because as much as I hate Tyra for this show and many other reasons, her modeling career is a thing: Mr. Jay became famous because of Tyra and no one would know or care about him without her.
The way he acts as if "once they left, nobody wanted to watch the show anymore!" is just false. I doubt anyone was watching because of him. At least not enough people to make a difference.
No, the show was no longer popular- or as popular as it used to be- once he left.

I haven't watched this show since like...season 3, did they refuse to let her have contacts, or was she adverse to them or something? That literally made no sense whatsoever. I've got horrible vision (legally have to have glasses or contacts while driving) and things are blurry, especially lights, but florescent lights, in the dark, are nigh impossible to discern. The fact that she didn't fall was a stroke of luck for the show more than anything else.

I am not an expert on this disease, but Molly Burke also in RUclips also has this eye disease and she explains it if you want more info on this. This girl had to walk with a cane at night, so to me this episode it was like discrimination to someone with a disability. Not gonna lie, the models of Cycle 15 were really tough. It was the first season to be dubbed as the "High Fashion" cycle due to the prize changes (Vogue Italia & IMG Models) + super-credible photographers and guest judges, so they ridiculously tried to make everything extra difficult: from this runway, the conveyor belt, the roller coaster photo challenge, the painted mean words on the first shoot, the rollerblade commercial. However, despite the show's effort to break the girls, they all managed to pulled through at the end, no one quit or backed down from doing the challenges. The show is probably hoping for a break down or panic attack moment from the girls during those challenges, but they really got none (as far as I remember). Big applause to them!

You need to react to the most disturbing and disgusting episode in all ANTM and that is ANTM season 8 episode 4: "The girl who changes her attitude". In this episode the girls are supposed to be death. They glamorize suicide and murder. I remember watching that episode and being so angry about it.

This reminded me that before getting contacts I would just dance blind on stage as a belly dancer. I got contacts when I almost fell off one. Not everyone can wear contacts though. There's no reason why she couldn't have worn glasses on the runway. Her black glasses even went with the outfit. I think we need to normalise wearing glasses as women.

I swear every time they know one of the girls has acrophobia they set them up to fail by having something to do with heights

    • @Nocturnalux
      @Nocturnalux 3 года назад

They wouldn't even need to know that. Get any number of people together and I guarantee most are afraid of heights.
Human beings evolved to have this reaction to high places as a survival mechanism. Those of us, in the distant past, who didn't have it, were so much more likely to die out from falling to death, that the trait gets passed down and becomes borderline universal.
Not everyone is as keenly aware of it, of course, but those who are genuinely unfazed by heights are a very small minority.
Think of all the people you know, how many would be capable and willing to work doing maintenance at a bridge (assuming they had the training and the pay was good, so, all things being equal and the heights being the one defining issue) and how many of those are you pretty sure would never be able to do it?
I bet the first group is considerably bigger than the second.

A big blob of pink. I can't even imagine how horrible and terrifying that would be. Bad vision creates "ghost lighting" especially in the dark, so it just bounces all over the place instead of clearly processing it through your eyes, making things 10x worse than just a solid object.

It looks like the staircase is overlapping the run way by a few feet, my guess is that it is there as a counterweight to help keep that runway from accidentally Turing into a seesaw once the models got to the end.
A much bigger issue is that almost all the girls were in dresses on a plexiglass runway over head. Everyone/anyone could easily just look up their dresses

In cycle 3 there was Amanda who was literally legally blind and couldn't see in darkness, and they had a runway show that they wouldn't let her see beforehand (the runway was a weird shape, not straight up and down) so the contacts thing with Kaycee doesn't surprise me

So, while I usually 100% agree that they do everything they can to make it more difficult on the models, it seems that the stairs may be there because the setup is off the side of a balcony. You can see the guard rail on the right side, and it lines up with the stairs very well.
But also, I'd straight up need new pants if I did this.
