I really love this series of interviews with various professionals and departments! Not everyone working in the industry is a director and it's a great reminder to anyone starting out that you can make an entire career out of film because there are literally hundreds and hundreds of positions possible to pursue!
Ryan, You have obviously prepared a lot for this interview, and I can appreciate the great questions you've asked of him, to be sure you're getting good answers for aspiring filmmakers---that's what Film Riot has always been about to me. I I love living vicariously through you guys. It's really incredible how far you have come in the time I've subbed, and can't wait until your feature.
I like this video and its discussion but I think it would be great if some Behind the Scenes footage or actual footage could be intercut with the discussion.
They're trying to keep it all simple so they can get it out and they probably don't have alot of BTS things they're referencing. But yeah I would too, at the same time I certainly can appreciate exactly what they provided too.
I love how you guys filmed this, it's clearly a 2 camera set up, but there's a beautiful contrast between your blue background and his orange background while simultaneously maintaining the same skin tones on both of you.
I started watching FILM RIOT videos long time ago (since their year 1 I guess) and still can't stop watching!! It's one of the few channels here on YT which are really GOLDEN! Now guys, go and... UPPERCUT THE BUTT!! :D
Whoo! Sam and Niko shoutout! I really like these interview episodes. I wish there were some bts visual illustrations to accompany what's being said, but since the thing isn't out yet, that's probably not possible.
Ryan of House Connolly, again lovely little interview. I do enjoy these niche area of specialty interviews and videos that focus on these people you tend not to see or know much about when it comes to film sets. Keep those up!
I loved this one it helped me a lot. I'm actually getting ready to do a short film that is going to need a few of these elements. The air soft option really helped
This is such a cool interview! I love that his mom was a stunt double! I think the world needs more female stunt doubles! Also, with the rise of American ninja warrior and shows that are similar, we are headed in the right direction
Thank you for all these interviews. I love them and really helps can you please do a basic tutorial on after effects on how to add basic things. Keep up the great videos
KorgelsoN Brother you will present a certificate before working at any organization or company. So prepare a resume of your work. And get a job according to your talent. This thing doesn't work in real life.
Just got my 60% discount through Triune on the complete set (Went looking for music and bought the shop) Thanks so much for doing such a massive sale! I've held off on starting my project because I didn't want to screech to a stop for lack of music Stupid excuse I know. *Psst* See if you can get Andrew to do a sale on Video Copilot. I'd love to get more of his awesome stuff to complement your awesome stuff!
Ryan, why have you a locked off camera for you and, what appears to be, a handheld or tracking camera for the subject? I know he moves around a bit so maybe you tracked in post?
These interviews are pure gold. Hopefully I can at some point get to a stage where I can utilize what I've learned from here as a director or a DoP and not just be the stunt guy myself :)
Give me this man's eyebrows! Also it would have been easier to understand if you would have explained what entails in being a stunt person and the stunt world with scenes from a movie or movies. Like the examples from John Wick etc.
Dear Ryan, Can you please tell me which camera you used for the interview? I want soft warm colors like that. Like the ones in pewdiepie's birdabo vlogs.
He likes to use the Ursa mini. Otherwise, perhaps the a7s ii? A lot of that image is made from the lighting though. You can have an image from an Alexa look like crap without proper lighting.
+Saurav Chaudhary it's all about how you shoot and grade it. Not the camera. This was shot with two different cameras. Ursa Mini and A7s II. First time I really used the Ursa in the field. Could get this same look with Pretty much any camera.
should I purchase a 4k camera so I have wiggle room when I edit or should I purchase a really good 1080p camera. I plan to put out videos on RUclips at 1080p
cjcwalker1 I would go with 1080. much easier to edit fast, which is what you need in order to be successful in RUclips. the only time I see using 4 k for action is if I don't have a camera person and have to put it on a tripod and add movement in post..plan your shots well
cjcwalker1 Well, 4K is always nice to have and downscaled 4k looks much better in terms of image quality over native 1080p... what is your budget/ what cameras were you thinking about?
Daniel Hill You can do muzzle flashes in any compositing software, if Filmora had a compositor then yes but other wise you could do it for free in hit film express. I'm going to do a tutorial on advanced muzzle flashes in a week or two
Hello, everyone. I was planning to make a scene with a police officer in it. is it legal in Michigan or Illinois to wear a police uniform in public and filming? please help.
Is it just me, or does this Josh look a bit like the Film Riot Josh? Especially that interview angle and beard. Thought he was interviewing his brother at first as a prank...
I really love this series of interviews with various professionals and departments! Not everyone working in the industry is a director and it's a great reminder to anyone starting out that you can make an entire career out of film because there are literally hundreds and hundreds of positions possible to pursue!
At the end of the interview, I was waiting for
"Thanks for the interview" [jumps through the window]
Hagen von Eitzen Lol that would have been awesome
*_*house explodes_**

Very informative. Been on some films with pro stunt people and coordinators. Amazing to watch them work. Talk about a well-oiled machine.
You should do a collab with Corridor Digital!
Bionic Lion Studios That would be amazing

This guy is so damn passionate, I love it!
This is such a cool interview! I love that his mom was a stunt double! I think the world needs more female stunt doubles! Also, with the rise of American ninja warrior and shows that are similar, we are headed in the right direction

Still no new Monday Challenge?
Echo Productions hopefully they do one soon. I was out of town for the last one so I couldn't participate:(
Love the new setup
can I work for you? I'll do anything, get you coffee, make you food. I gotchu
KorgelsoN Brother you will present a certificate before working at any organization or company. So prepare a resume of your work. And get a job according to your talent. This thing doesn't work in real life.
C & M Studio What thing doesn't work out?
I'd say Ryan and his family are living well. I think it is working out great for them, and I think it'll only get better
Why work for them? Be your own boss, write, direct, and edit, your own films. Then you'll have others getting coffee and food for you!
Wolf Moon Pictures But why would someone bring YOU coffee when they can also be their own boss? 🤔🤔🤔 Asking real questions here lol
I LOVE THIS CHANNEL
Thank you for all that you do. I'm learning everywhere I can, and you are an awesome resource. Any suggestions are appreciated.
BrillionB2k I teach filmmaking as well... there is DSLR GUIDE and D4Darius
Just got my 60% discount through Triune on the complete set (Went looking for music and bought the shop) Thanks so much for doing such a massive sale! GREAT interview Ryan. Ive never done any on-camea stunt work yet, but it sounds fun af.
Dan Lord if you want to learn some physical tips, check out my series!
Is there an update on Intercept? Will it happen, or not? It's the uncertainty that's killing us!
thanks for the help
Great interview guys, verry helpfull!
Would love to see the lighting set up for this as well as a list of camera/lens used. Nice work.
Still waiting for Intercept
Just FYI for UK people: You do need permits for airlift guns and the police are more likely to issue them if you have an armourer.
Nice interview, as a stuntguy myself I agree with Josh. Keep it up guys. ;)
Ryan, why have you a locked off camera for you and, what appears to be, a handheld or tracking camera for the subject?
I know he moves around a bit so maybe you tracked in post?
Awesome interview! the stunt world! Can you go over some of the materials he's talking about with the explosion sparks and dust ball?
Stunts! Stunts!!! Yes!! Finally stunts!!!
Interesting fella. Thanks for the tips!
yess a stunt video!
Still waiting on that Monday challenge...
Ryan's a great interviewer
Fascinating video, most interesting one of late

These interviews are pure gold. Hopefully I can at some point get to a stage where I can utilize what I've learned from here as a director or a DoP and not just be the stunt guy myself :)
Mika Kuitunen if you want some more action film tips,I have a series of tutorials!
Watched a few, you sir have a new subscriber. Good quality and great tips.
Tessier is awesome.
Film Riot Tuesdays?
Great content and insight, as usual. Just curious why you situated the chairs at an angle that faces away from the cameras?
Whoever the stunt coordinator on The Raid films was deserves a cookie.
Manickaa I've heard so much about the raid recently! Is it worth checking out?
The Raid movies are fantastic. There are Indonesian so there are subtitles. It is very VERY violent so check it out if you have a strong stomach!
Manickaa Ok thanks! Will definitely check it out.
This just makes me want to watch John Wick Chapter 2 now.
Speaking of fight scenes, I have a friend of mine doing all the choreographing in my scifi film BANDS. He actually teaches Karate.
COLBY Films just make sure everyone is safe! martial arts need to be modified for film fighting
What camera set up did you use for this interview? looks super clean
Awesome
"And all the fun stuff"
He looks like a dark haired Ryan Reynolds...
Sounds like going to a pro wrestling school would really help with the skills you need to be a stunt man. Bumps, selling, ect
Hey Ryan, I was just wondering if the Triune stuff works on Mac?
That is an extraordinarily handsome man.
Fish in a Barrel The guest is good looking too.
Give me this man's eyebrows!
Also it would have been easier to understand if you would have explained what entails in being a stunt person and the stunt world with scenes from a movie or movies. Like the examples from John Wick etc.
Ryan: So how does someone become a stunt performer?
Josh: Nepotism!
-_-
Fith
More interviews!
Josh Tessier probably eats steaks that are bigger than me...
Dear Ryan,
Can you please tell me which camera you used for the interview? I want soft warm colors like that. Like the ones in pewdiepie's birdabo vlogs.
He likes to use the Ursa mini. Otherwise, perhaps the a7s ii? A lot of that image is made from the lighting though. You can have an image from an Alexa look like crap without proper lighting.

should I purchase a 4k camera so I have wiggle room when I edit or should I purchase a really good 1080p camera. I plan to put out videos on RUclips at 1080p

cjcwalker1 What do you plan to film and what is your budget?
I don't plan on a lot of action. I have plans for a detective shorts and sitcoms like how I met your mother
cjcwalker1 Well, 4K is always nice to have and downscaled 4k looks much better in terms of image quality over native 1080p... what is your budget/ what cameras were you thinking about?
Echo Productions my budget is about
It's tuesday
@Film Riot does the muzzle flash effects work also in filmora?
Daniel Hill You can do muzzle flashes in any compositing software, if Filmora had a compositor then yes but other wise you could do it for free in hit film express. I'm going to do a tutorial on advanced muzzle flashes in a week or two
Daniel Hill :D lol
Hello, everyone. I was planning to make a scene with a police officer in it. is it legal in Michigan or Illinois to wear a police uniform in public and filming? please help.
Bodrul Ahmed impersonating an officer is illegal. it's best to just call 411 or your non emergency number for your local police and ask them about it
Is Triune at NAB?
Hey Ryan, fire josh. I'll pay you to let me work for you...
we get it
lol, yeah
Is it just me, or does this Josh look a bit like the Film Riot Josh? Especially that interview angle and beard. Thought he was interviewing his brother at first as a prank...
