this is bs. there were tons of crashes, the servers crashed out overnight almost every night, 6 hours plus. acting like the riverlands is some feat when all they did was triple the server count for the riverlands. tank abilities still dont work half the time. theres bugs now u cant even get xp when killint mobs. the list goes on and on. the fact is were in alpha 2 with 4% of the game released to us and its still a giant buggy mess. Worse then it was in phase one, which was supposed to be the network test phase, which now thats what p2 is. Another reviewer wanna be streamer giving his opiniin 5 minutes after leaving the starting zone.
I'm a level 11 miner. I have gotten about 1500+ granite and basalt. Yet only 60 copper and zinc. Probably 50 ruby. If they expect metallurgy to be balanced with stonemasonry they need to change the spawn rates by alot.
im also a lv 11 miner and ive got metalworking to 10, you gotta figure out the spawns and set timers and create good routes mate, lets not forget taking advantage of daily maintainence node reset. the mining granite thing is mostly a myth
I was extremely hype.. Was fun in November when I first got in.. This second time around - server issues - I had a static group that i decided I wasnt going to commit to because theres a bunch of other good games out now... Leveling with the current iteration of players if you have no static is bad. The servers were fine... Ill come back to play Rogue, unfortunately - I wont be maining the game as I thought. Mostly because the class I want to play is not in game yet. But if I could have found leveling grps a little bit easier this time I wouldve stuck it out. All good - ill be back for the next fresh start servers. Going dark on this game for a few months - will check back in April and see if they have made any progress.
I just don't understand how they did nothing for 3 months. if let's say 10-20 people out of 198 employees were devs, I mean even just doing a 9-12, 3 hours of work a day would achieve something?
Keep in mind the RIverlands zone is only 1/20 of the entire game (1/40 if the oceans and seas are included). They are doing a lot. Also, Intrepid have done a lot of bug fixes when comparing Alpha 2 Phase 2 to Alpha 2 Phase 1. The quests mostly work. The maps show most of the quest areas. There are small jerks with lag, but the servers are mostly stable.
Maybe you've never actually played any mmo in your life or something but it would be super funny for you to come up with one that has turn around of new content in 3 months regardless of how many staff they have. For an example of one, Star Trek online takes 3 months just to make a single space ship, 4 months for a new map with new assets. And that game is a much smaller scale than Ashes. Not even ESO is capable of putting out new content every 3 months and they are probably the most regularly updated game in the industry for the past decade
You've never done large scale computing, have you? One time I needed to add a cable for a hard drive. $7 dollar cable, takes 5 minutes. Well, that was $7000 and 4 people working for a week to do. Large scale software is similar, and trying to find an error can take HOURS, and then you have to verify the fix doesn't meltdown the server. Or you need to rebuild the database schema, etc.
1:30 - you and I had very different experiences. For a over 2 days, I wasn't able to use my horse or movement skill because if I did, the server would lose track of where I was and a back and forth rubberbanding effect would happen until I stood still for 20 or so seconds. It was horrible. The decision to increase the number of player per server was a massive mistake.
I think something like this would be a great leveling system instead of 95% mob grinding. 45% mob grind 10% story arch 15% quests meaningful rewards 20% dungeon 10% artisan skills Would give a nice blend of all aspects of the game with out being just solo mmo quest grind
Regarding the questing versus grinding. I'd love to see more events in the game. I feel that's the best way for Ashes to push leveling. Just fix the issues with them (afk participation) and they could really pop.
i was really expecting the new areas to be just dropped into the game but it still seems under development? new aela is still pretty empty and has zero events, plus some goals missed from p1 has me skeptical, also thinking about this pace of content release vs the scale of the world is daunting, lets keep the healthy criticism alive! and let them cook, good video
A good, fair review. Though, there are two issues you left out. One is early level gearing. It still is not there. There other is end-game raids dungeons. The organizational structure required for leveling nodes means there are a lot of heavily organized guilds, this means there are too many people for raiding dungeons at one time. While Intrepid would like this to create a PVP war in the dungeons. Realistically those raiding do not want to also do PVP while worrying about the huge boss fights. Honestly, the raid dungeons needs to be instanced.
nodes level up in dessert and only thing that changed was mobs went from lvl 10 to lvl 20 anmd now cant be killed by the people leveling the desert nodes :P they probaly jump to 30 when it hits village lol quest imo in AOC outside of commisions should be longer task mainly for aquiring things like gear/recipes and things like that not realy for leveling, leave that for commisions Also steven made a big post saying desert gonna be major focus in january when there back i feel they didnt make the time for it due to Phase 1 fixes delayed it
@MrKevlarkent well as long as it isn't mainly mob grinding I am fine. Mob grinding was advertised to be just one of a few possible xp sources. The other ones should be just as viable, if aoc decides to pivot from this vision I would be disappointed
@G.Giorgio well I'm sure you will be able to get a lot of your living done by doing story quests, commissions and side quests on release. ATM there's no story quests and very few side quests
Combine the questing with the mob grinding, make it so that quests require you to kill certain mobs that are tough to do solo, and you will still get the same synergy with player to player communication but a lot more direction for a new player on what to do actually. It feels so weird and demotivating knowing there are no quests or any direction to go to. Look at WoW Classic perfect example of a good implementation of this.
I'm getting real tired of being lost on what to do & when other Players are Grinding these group Mobs you ask them if you can Join only to hear they are Full & your going what can I do.
How has nobody mentioned this? Your audio cuts out randomly. I've watched about 100 youtube episodes in the last 24 hours and this is the only one where it happens..
If you buy now you can play 24/7 until January 6th. After that it’s going to be up 5 days a week until May where it will be 24/7. If you buy now you have access until the game fully releases a year and a half to 2 years where it will become a monthly sub
please keep in mind that the game is clearly much longer than 2 years away from release. I would wait at least until phase 3 and check if they can introduce meaningful updates (which until now hasnt happened at all)

In before Steven gaslights us next dev stream again that copper is everywhere we just need to trade for it xD Agreed on the 65-35 grind/quest XP split. They definitely pushed P2 out the door. So much stuff is missing, namely Artisan talent trees, Lvl 4 nodes/vassalship/sieges, Rogue, Desert POIs etc. That being said, i'm still happy we got what we got for Phase 2 right now, on top of the wipe. Can't wait to see new stuff being added over the months.
i might try to play it again soon. i had to quit on day 2 because everything was camped to hell. hopefully some of the lower level areas are cleared out soon. my personal cope for gathering resources is that we dont have any of the subterranean stuff at all, and thats where id expect to see a lot of mineral spawns
I think it’s important to be specific about what we have now vs later in phase 2. I imagine Phase 2 will have significant updates they haven’t even announced yet.
You paid the money and signed up to test Ashes of Creation. So you know what you signed up for. You did NOT sign up to "Play" the game. Stop complaining that game-play does not live up to your expectations. The desert nodes are level 20-30. When you get to level 20, go to a desert node and start leveling it up. Watch it change.
Its so funny watching reddit do its thing, 4 days in Alpha during holidays, complaining about unfinished things that isnt the focus of this phase Like already we are in such a better place than Alpha1 but its not full release so i guess devs are bad? Screw off go play a game, Ashes is for testing and making something great together, name 1 game with an OPEN alpha where devs are communicating daily with community Ashes will be greater without these bad agents
I really hope they start communicating openly with us. they didnt loose a word about so many things like the state of lvl 4 nodes. I dont understand why they are so scared about actually telling us things.
