    i swear there's something wrong with gaming when people have to say "I have hundreds of hours in this pre pre pre pre pre alpha play test" to even be able to give an opinion without being lambasted the cultists that have formed in the Ashes community

    PVP flag should only fall off like 2 minutes AFTER leaving combat.
    I'm not sure they'll fix the TKK, steven loves archeage (i do too) but the combat in that was VERY 1shot based.
    I completely agree with you on the nodes, I think the nodes are an overplayed meme and they're not that interesting.

    I agree about the time to kill (TTK) and although you're right that lowering the numbers across the game would be a bigger venture than simply adjusting the PvP combat, I want to argue, propose, and request that they do that anyway. Something that really bothered me in MMOs like World of Warcraft is how, as the game progresses and the level cap increases, the numbers become unreasonable. I don't think it feels good to eventually have them cutting numbers from hundreds of thousands of damage and then in the next expansion, you're dealing thousands again.
    I don't understand why they can't just lower the numbers significantly. Why aren't we dealing between five and thirty-five damage at levels one through five, then 35 to 100 damage between levels 5 and 10, and then 100 to 300 damage between levels 10 and 25? Maybe those numbers are too low, but my point is there's a lot of room for them to lower these numbers.

    For me personally the biggest problem is the power scaling. The issue with power scaling of rare gear in Phase1 has been replaced by the issue of enchanted level 10 gear being far better than rare lvl 20 gear, to the point that if you stack your dmg stats high enough you 1-2 shot people. Great RPG system you got there Intrepid. You heard about math? Learn how to count at the design level.

      Things like this happen in MMORPGs and it is just an alpha. Hopefully they can create a "knob" specifically for PvP when this kind of thing happens again to where they can adjust player damage and healing values in PvP combat specifically.

      There's a few reasons for this currently.
      1. The nodes havnt progressed enough that we can upgrade the level 20 gear and if you could the 20 gear would be stronger
      2. The character level cap has made it so people are min maxing at that cap thus the 10 gear is the current meta
      Both these will be fixed and wouldn't be replicated when the artificial cap on node and character level is lifted so don't get too hung up on how things are currently.
      It's like how SOM wow classic phase 1 was only level 20 ppl min max the twink gear but its not a true reflection of what the game will be... does that make sense?

    A guildie was playing with a friendly guild running a carvan. Not attacking the caravan just a defender, caravan turned in and defender was IMMEDIATELY corrupted then killed... Dropped gear and a random 25 ran past grabbed his gear and took off 😮

    I think other nodes will matter more as higher tiers get introduced and nodes are more specialized in what they do, and there may be no other node where you can get a certain crafts done, or for example with the nodes that will allow airship travel and more trade benefits (at t6) will be very important to have nearby to your main node. As it is right now there is barely any significant node specialization outside of differing crafting benches but lets in the future your node doesnt have a high tier alchemy area but the node over does it would still be in your best interest that that node stays alive so you have easier access to those elixirs and mats. All this stuff is outlined in the wiki its just the nodes lack a lot of their potential power and specialization - also the things we can make are capped are very low so access to those items is not difficult.

    The flagging system was so aids when I tried it in phase 1. I stopped leveling and quit and decided this game wasn't for me. Thank you for highlighting how trash it is!

    12:09 you don't care because you havent realised that every node is a source of your gear, especially in the game world so small. Without that node you, and your guild or even your enemies cannot upgrade whatever gear type a burn down crafting station supports.

      Why do I care about everyone's gear being upgraded? Having "good" gear is relative. If everyone has good gear then nobody does. In fact with how insane the TTK is at high levels I wish NOBODY had good gear.

      Crafters are acutely aware of which node is building what and when it will be available. They even warehouse their materials in different nodes.

      That could possibly be a reality if crafting had even a speck of a chance of keeping up with combat leveling. As it currently stands, most of the servers are at lvl 25 combat, with the nodes all stuck below JM level, making crafted gear maxed at lvl 10.

    Have you considered that "not giving a care about the nodes" is a completely reasonable way for them to build the game? You live in a country, or in a town, or in a city, do you care about every city and everything that they're doing all around you? You only care if there's a reason for you to care. So in the game, why couldn't it just be that you have a node, you're a part of that node, and you participate in it, and there's plenty of other nodes doing their own thing, and you don't know, or need to know, about what they're doing. I don't understand why you have such a strong perspective about it when there are clearly other perspectives to take.
    Actually, on a personal level, I like that idea. I want to play an MMO where the world feels bigger than me, feels bigger than my character. I don't need to know everything that's happening in the world, and that's okay. It's actually fun to discover things that you didn't know, or to wonder about what's happening in the rest of the world. Or don't wonder, and just do whatever you're doing by yourself. But the point is, you have options. I mean, I just don't understand your take on why it's such a problem.

    If your not crafting then other nods will not matter as much to you. But if another nod has leveled what you need to craft or process your items you will want to protect that nod

    100 % Agree. Corruption system is really bad. the pvp flag coming off mid fight is ridiculous. This happened to me when I was 15 lvling in HH. My glint was stolen so I attacked and killed him and I was corrupt cause he lost the pvp flag. Lost my Fleshripper and 2 ashen haunt pieces.

    Lineage 2 had a pretty straight forward system about pvp flagging, I would suggest check out old school L2 pvp systems, its much more robust and straight forward deal

    Not often I run across a Vid by someone who has killed me a couple of times. The getting corrupted for killing a mount as it crossed from the lawless zone happened when you killed my GMs mount near Mira

      That must’ve not been me. The time I had a mount bleed as it crossed the border was on the desert side of the map not Miraleth. But I’m sure this exact situation had happened a ton of times to people.

    I feel like xp debt should only happen during PVP instances. Dying in PVE because someone is training mobs on you and getting xp debt is not a good mechanic at all. Especially when it happens multiple times.

    First the good:the core intent of harsh corruption works: aside from day 1 when nobody cared, I pretty much never get attacked as a non-combattant. Working as intended. Now the bad...
    There should be a toggle in options to NEVER go corrupt (no matter what, your abilities will never hurt a non-combattant). Going corrupt should be a deliberate choice, not the result of janky unintended mechanics and bugs. That should be prio IMO, as the amount of loss/grief that can occur to unintended corruption is unreal (loss of legendary gear). The random jank is so bad that i'm afraid to PVP outside of lawless zones at all (and now that you mention the mount bug, perhaps even in them).
    Another big problem is terminology. "Flagging" can mean two things: 1) "Flagging" to allow your attacks to hurt other players (ALT+F) 2) The "real" flag, IE going combattant/purple by attacking someone else or entering a lawless zone. One allows others to attack you (combattant/purple), one is simply your abilities being able to hurt other players. This causes a lot of confusion.
    Steven said there would be a "flashing cooldown" when the pvp flag is about to fade, which is an improvement, but not great. If you're involved in a fight, the combattant flag should stick until the fight is over (say 1 minute without any combat interaction between the involved parties).
    I'm not sure why they're reinventing the wheel here. Ultima Online solved flags 25 years ago and it still works great to this day.
    Blue = innocent/default.
    Grey = criminal (attacking or stealing from a blue, healing a grey/red, etc.), freely attackable by all for 2 minutes.
    Red = murderer (5 kill counts, perma-attackable by all, cannot enter towns).
    Lawless zones = everyone is permagrey within the borders.
    If there's a PVP fight, people involved stay "grey" to each other until 2 minutes pass without a combat interaction, even if they leave the zone (and are blue for everyone else since they're out of the lawless zone).
    If you attack a blue, you go grey for 2 minutes (freely attackable by all) and get a kill count if you kill the blue. In UO, a blue that gets attacked can fight back WITHOUT going grey since it was an unprovoked aggression. However, greys/reds that are attacked first can also defend themselves without getting a kill count (which isnt the case for corrupted players atm).
    IMO in AoC you should be able to flag perma-combattant/purple in the options, at will, without attacking someone. And you can turn that toggle off which would bring you back to non-combattant after 2 minutes. Basically announcing to others that if they want to attack and fight, they can, but you can then fight back.
    PS: Regarding nodes, it's all about stations/access to BIS gear. That's the one reason I personally care about nodes atm. Especially since with 8 nodes, we can only get 16 out of the 22 professions at Journeyman level assuming perfect coordination between mayors, so decisions will affect some types of BIS gear/consumes the server will never be able to access until more nodes are added. I know relics/node bonuses are coming too, something you'll want to steal from other nodes with sieges, etc. I'm sure a lot more will be added later on as well.
    One reason for you to care about this is that I believe TTK will go down at max enchanted level gear for exactly the reason you mentionned. A lvl 10 cloth chest legendary bluebell garb+8 atm has 17 int, 11 con and 88 magic resist. A level 20 cloth chest legendary cognoscente garb+8 has 22 con, 14 int and a whopping 145 magic resist. Granted, some pieces will add wisdom/other offensive stats, but I would wager that %-wise, the increase in stats won't be that much because of the flat +8, but the boost in base magic resist/armor will be significant (almost double more in this case). Can't wait to test it.
    I heard that Lyneth has their Tier 3 scribe station up and sadly the journeyman enchanting scrolls were NOT on the NPC. Hopefully that is an oversight, otherwise glass cannon lvl 10 gear+8 will be BIS forever and TTK will remain skyhigh.

    The complete unfinishness of the Corruption system has been a blight (pun intended) on the Alpha. The system that it was originally copied (and made better) from is very simple:
    1. You flag for pvp by hitting another uncorrupted player (no fucking toggles or anything of the sort).
    2. They can flag for pvp by hitting you back or by hitting another uncorrupted player.
    3. If you kill an unflagged player (kill here being "the death blow") - you become corrupted.
    4. The more PKs (corrupted kills) you have on your char's history - the higher the chance of losing gear on death
    AoC's system is supposed to be the same, but with the addition of PK-based stat dampening (helps with egregious PKers who just want to genocide people), but right now it's a whole fucking mess with several patchwork additions, just to make it work SOMEHOW to "test" it. I definitely hope they manage to bring it to its full design by P3, cause it'd be a damn shame if it's the main impression of the pvp system for most people.
    And the faults of the bad implementation are only worse due to the super short ttk, because it makes people think "oh, he already made the first hit on me, which took off 1/3-2/3 of my hp, so there's literally no point in fighting back now, so I might as well just fuck him over by not flagging up".
    At peak version of L2 (where this system was taken from) ttk was real slow, which let people believe that they could still turn things around, which in turn led to way more owpvp. It was damn glorious, which is probably the reason why Steven decided to copy that system. Intrepid simply need to implement it correctly and shift ttk higher than it is right now.

    Personally, i would like to see how gem socketing works before necessarily nerfing outright dmg in specifically pvp only. Then you end up wow retail wow territory. Archeage gear desparity was large and had low ttk if someone had better gear, but a way to overcome this and survive was the gem socketing for resilience and toughness, etc. Each piece (iirc higher rarity/grade = more sockets) had sockets you could use to socket for higher dmg or higher defense. AA had it locked depending on the pieces, i.e. wep can only socket offensive gems, chest/legs, few other pieces are lcoked to defensive gems. And the defensive gems gave much higher values than offensive gems

    I think games should either have full loot pvp or none at all. Itll be like crowfall where you get ganked and you lose all ur wood. But you kill your ganked and you get nothing because their gear doesn't drop

    just like in Black Desert where players would bait others into attacking them and then the attacker receiving penalties (losing Karma) for attacking/killing another player. It was called Karma Bombing.

      @ Most of the instances of people one shotting low level players are completely accidental. Typically someone accidentally flags for PvP or has it on from when they were in an open PvP zone then hits a button on their keyboard or tabs to the wrong target and boom...you're screwed...

    This is what i would do to fix corruption well make it better atleast
    1 - Can attack purple players and it will auto flag you when u use a skill basicly allows you to instantly respond if somone hit you (atleast have this as an option)
    2 - Taking dmg from a player refreshest your combatant timer on that player that did the dmg and received (includes healing purple players too will refresh the healer timer) it this stops people deflagging mid fight and getting killed to corrupt people.
    3 - I also think u should be able to kill 1 person without going corrupted but u get like 1 a day for accidents or that 1 asshole :P gear drop definetly shouldnt happen at phase 1 (even corruption 2 seems way to puninishing with how quickly corruption 1 and 2 occures) corruption though too
    they somewhat fixed the boarders to a degree since ur remain purple for a minute or something after leaving purple zone atleast.
    edit also lowkey having a random mount drop on death instead would be pretty amusing play the mount collecting game :P
    as for node i think when housing become a thing properly they may care more atleast the node there citizen off since if they loose node they loose their housing/freehold/guildhall or what not. but outside of crafting benches i couldnt care less about other nodes :p
    TTK is horrendous though and balance too but that expected atm mages defiently overtuned atm can snap there fingers and kill somone :D ive had one blink and fireball for 3.7k and then 1.3k dmg from the burn from it in like 5 seconds
    i think they have the ability to tweak overall dmg from classes they can just change the ratios from power rating per class if they wanted i reckon, like power rating to power is divided by 3 if mage dmg to high atm they could alter it to divide by 4 but would effect pve though
    i know each rating stat conversions are different for example addictive dmg is divided by 5 (seems like a little high for me since it only works on basic attacks would be fine if addicitive dmg applied to everything though but 5 is to much for just basic attacks it seems)
    Rangers are in rough shape interns of pvp too especialy shortbow which is built for consistent average dmg and takes like 3-5 seconds uninterupted to wind up to max dmg output by then fight over if you dont get the jump first

    I would upvote this 1000 times if I could. Fully agree on the flagging system. Unintuitive and unfun. A solution could be to just adopt the system that almost every other game in the genre uses, but for some reason Intrepid wants to reinvent the wheel.

      then you will have WoW 2.0= a boring pve game that has some battlegrounds.I`m so sick of the WoW community that come to another mmo wants to turn it in another generic WoW clone you did it with guild wars 2, elder scrolls, new world and many more. The karma or corruption system was a standard in a lot of mmos back in the day many mmos did it so no they did not try to reinvent the wheel

      @@ANDY515051 ii was comparing it to archeage, black desert online, ineage2 and the flagging system in those games..not sure where u got wow from, is there even flagging in that game? but yes, intrepid's flagging system is very different from archeage, bdo, other kr pvp games...and intrepid's system IS reinventing the wheel as the the karma and corruption system is NOT the standard that you see in other games. any game like wow/gw2/eso is completely irrelevant.

      Let`s take lineage 2, ashes corruption system 95% is stolen from Lineage 2 the other 5% ashes added is the system that you are marked on the map which that was in Lineage 1 that`s the original system of karma Lineage 1. What reinventing the wheel are we talking about its a standard since 1998(or 1999 i don`t remember), bdo and archeage are similar to Lineage 2 but more forgiving also archeage has justice system which it was so easy to exploit and if you really played those games its pretty intuitive and similar system to transfer them to play ashes.
      And its really not irrelevant to bring the history of the WoW player community bouncing from mmos to mmos and telling devs to changing there games to make them more WoW-like AND if you want to make a pvp mmo you have to system to choose karmic system like Lineage or faction base like Warhammer Online(don`t give me the bs is not a pvp game its a social sandbox mmo bs that`s a marketing thing)
      If ashes its unfun to you most likely the other 3 games you mentioned its unfun(to you) aswell cause they have pretty much the same systems in pvp.Again no reinventing was really done by ashes cause they took L2 karma system but a little more punishing thats not "reinventing the wheel"

      @@ANDY515051 i never played l2, but i played bdo nonstop for years and aa nonstop for months. the flagging system in those games is VASTLY different. in bdo i was in one of the top two guilds in the game that controlled the best region and grind spots. i fought/flagged people all day everyday, i even won lacari's 3v3 tournament so i think i know the game pretty well. this video's criticism of the ashes flagging system is spot on, you can disagree with that though i dont really care

Sure the punishment it’s different in all 4 ashes being the most punishing one out of all and aa and bdo innovating on the system .I really believe none of them really try to reinvent the wheel that much ashes being the least out of them. I guess I don’t see that much of a evolution from 2003 until now to say that they tried something different

      He specifically explained that it's a lawless zone, that means that PVP for any reason is allowed in that area. Therefore the name color does not matter. It's a bug as he was nowhere near the border and he was in the lawless zone.

      @@Yianni-GR I’ve killed hundreds of people in this exact area. I can assure you he was in the open PvP area. This was a bug where somehow this player didn’t have the open world pvp flag.
      The corruption penalties cannot be this high because bugs like this are bound to happen.

    13:20 wow has the exact same system, all players take 20% less dmg in pvp.
    They had to up it to like 40% in sod because ppl killed eachother instantly.

    I think the biggest issue is leveling time. I got 20 hours on a tank and a mage each and they are still level 8. I cant ever use the market or pvp anyone.

      @zyfiridia if there is a group around, I try, but you get way less xp that way. and I've spent like 4ish hours doing lumberjacking and mining, so I guess that does skew it a little.

      @@saltyman5603 there are bad group for sure and there are good group to and this game reward well in those case and as for the lvl you reach. it is on the lower side but not bad that much. you could be around 11 if you had gone for it
      i feel like you had a lot of fun in a casual way where you were not try like mad to reach 25
      i have sink like 150 hours and i am still 15
      but i am having fun playing around so i am not committed to lvl 25 yet since i am still exploring

      @@zyfiridia i am only casual because i dont know how not to be if that makes sense. i get bored of leveling since it is so slow and just make a new character or do gathering. i only know 1 leveling spot and it always has like 10 people there who wont group. i really want to be max level or at least level 20 so i can do pvp and also use the cooler class abilities. hell, level 10 would be nice so i could use the market and make money.

    Steven has No Clue on what he is Attempting to create. Why not just make it a Level range for the PvP. And if you are a lil person coming up you don't get One Shotted by a mean bigger dude. And Only be able to take ONE Item, not all the gear, that's Just Stoopid....of course money, if your dumb enough to run around with all of your coin. Has the Idea of Nodes/Cities gone through the Seasonal changes or growth phases yet....then, if changed back to simple?? The game inner mechanism seem too complicated to function properly without crashing.

    The problem about the combat is that they are introducing too many variables to the game instead of focusing on the core aspects first. For example, with just gear you will have many stat options through gear enchanting, tempering, gems and sockets. What I wish they would do is make gear simpler like Guild Wars 2 and focus on the core combat first, and maybe start introducing those variables back when everything is working well. Sometimes less is more.
    As for the game being grindy I agree with you, I think gathering, crafting, pvp and events should be other leveling options as well. Btw I remember Steven saying that he hates grindy games 😂, I have the video saved somewhere in my history, will see if I find it later.

    Idk, my biggest issue is that there just isn’t much to do. You just grind 🤷🏼‍♂️ sure, you can craft- but why? There’s no real reason to.
    Questing is incomplete, no build diversity amongst the classes that are in, and PvP is a nightmare.
    I understand it’s alpha- I’m not complaining, I’m just sayin. Tested it for a good 2 weeks and dipped. Look forward to future builds

    AoC is turning into why i hated WoW & FFXIV towards end of lifespan, They stopped respecting the users time.
    When it Doesn't respect player time, You're gunna need to put unholy hours in to undo any losses & the droprates ain't lookin too great either. It's really resembling Star Citizen for me recently, I've been hyped for AoC for years now but the more i see of it the less i want to play it.

    "I don't care about the node system at all" - yeah, no shit. You're literally running around with out a SINGLE extra inventory bag. You care when you gather and craft - clearly, these are game systems you don't care about in the slightest.
    I'm not posting this as a critique to your playstyle, do your thing, but as a way to inform viewers who may not be familiar with the game. The overwhelming majority of players HIGHLY care about the nodes, which buildings are being built, the progression of the server(JM buildings, etc.), and how wars will affect all of that.

      Gear is relative. Good gear just means it’s better than the median. They need to somehow incentivize the individual to have people engage with the loop more.

Players want upgrades in an RPG regardless of the relative power it provides, I've min maxed my POE characters far past the point of 1 shotting bosses (not saying that is whats happening here but people like upgrading in RPG style games and especially in MMOs where its a flex).
      Also there could be situations in PVE where players are max level but cannot get gear strong enough to take on level 55 5star elites till they can craft things are grandmaster stations of a certain quality. I obviously don't know if thats how it will play out or not but its entirely possible. I do understand your perspective from a sole PVP vantage point where the strength of your gear really only matters relative to what others are using but there is a whole other section of players who consider the artisan system and RPG gear min maxing solely from a character progression standpoint more fulfilling - and to them it will be very important how the nodes are setup and progressed.

      @ That’s fair enough. I do like the loop of important cities being destroyed for the sake of politics and drama. However I do think there needs to be more of a carrot for players who aren’t as socially invested in the game.

    you argue mage 2 shot player and i am wondering if it apply both ways as i saw a mage not able to kill a cleric
    i like the idea that every class has a weakness to others so that there is no meta
    something like fighter is weak to mage whom is weak to tank -> cleric-> ranger->rogue and so on
    to me this sound like you are scared of mage for a real reason and contribute to exciting gameplay cuz you say danger and was fast enough to dodge it
    i see that as a possitive outcome
    if mage have no weakness that would be something wrong for the mage and not the fighter in my reguard

      It’s not really a case of rock paper scissors right now. Every class can do crazy damage if they have the gear. It’s just that the mage kit has the easiest time doing it with the least setup and risk.

    I've never flagged up because I literally can't figure out how. So far every system I've encountered in this test has been needlessly convoluted, time consuming busy work, coma inducing travel time, or doesn't actually work. So far you are the only person to fully discuss how the corruption system simply doesn't work as it's been pushed as working. TTK and skill expression is a big deal. The skills are seriously meh. You don't live long enough to learn anything. Boring.

      You only do that if you've killed someone who didn't fight back at all. It's the main deterrent against people who like to prey on the weak.
      Obviously any bug-related corruption gain is bad, but that's not an issue with the system itself.

    I've been having a blast on AoC ganking crafters in town and PvPing but the Corruption system is overtuned for sure, they say it's just for Alpha but Alpha will be going for a while.
    I don't see why red players should risk their gear when blue players don't. Their items tab would be a better tradeoff maybe. Or make the risk for reward better for red players. It should only be for extreme corruption levels like level 5. Also not to mention Blight is permanent like.. what? If you PVP for a while then you'll instantly just go level 5 every time. Being punished for trying to experience a part of the game is awful since part of the appeal was the PvP aspect.
