28:43 Well said by Alex. And it's exciting to hear Justin say "our next release".
Yesssssssss, I heard that too
YASS!!!!!!
🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗
its around the 42:00 minute mark
Justin’s reaction is so cute and humble when Alex praises him 😂💕 my heroes, him and the Flea (RHCP)
Hopefully Alex gets each TOOL individual on his podcast. Cuz I’m sure that Danny one is gonna be a blast!
I doubt we'll see Adam, it's so hard to find him on camera
@@dietzombies yea he seems super shy. But a really nice guy
Danny version will be fully loaded with F bombs, in poly.
Sir Danny Carey is a goat.

Two of best living artists I've ever seen
Love both.

I got to see TOOL before the lockdown ,,,AMAZING AS ALWAYS
Oh boy how beautiful was that? I hadn't seen them in 13 years so I was on the verge of tears when they opened the show with Fear. It was so perfect. You felt like you were in another dimension. Flawless 😌
I got to see them in SLC. It was overwhelmingly beautiful.
Me too! I saw them in Spokane.
I tell my husband all the time... "At least we got to see Tool at the Aftershock Festival before we got locked down!".
Me too, for the first time! And almost ironically, my last concert of the decade thanks to COVID. I'm so hoping to see them again, hopefully sooner than later.
Alex Grey sounds like a Bill Hader impression.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
He does lol
😂
Oh that's painfully good, well played
Looks like Brad Dourif too
With every Tool release, the accompanying artwork has always been as central and important a part of the art as any of the songs have been. That’s why I’ve always kind of considered Alex as the unofficial fifth member of Tool. He is able to perfectly capture the concepts and themes of the music and display it visually. Add in Adam’s packaging designs and that’s why it’s such a visceral experience - a distinct concept expressed sonically, visually, lyrically and ergonomically.
👏 yes
@@snowyangel6248 Alex Grey is like the mascot with the artistic power to back it up.
@@Crabbadabba exactly!
Lateralus art is their most perfect album cover.
If not one of the best of all time.
Justin : "Do you know the song The Pot?"
Alex : YYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSS
That bassline that Justin talks about is so delicious!
@@Domn879 ya the opening line is amazing but it’s that second riff that makes the song!!!!
Time stamp
@@peterpawlak8122 0:39 into the song
@@Domn879 bought a bass just because of that song :D
Justin’s my favorite musical artist.
I can't think of another musician's melodies who move me as emotionally as his do. When his bassline comes in on Invincible, I swear I leave this reality.
@Corby Dinzen everybody feels music differently... wtf
UNDERRATED
To learn of the synergy between Alex/CoSM and the band Tool was a real privilege. I am a child of the 70s and grew up on Prog Rock bands like Yes, for example. I missed out on Tool and now, thanks to this video, I'm about to catch up! Peace and Love to CoSM, Alex, Allyson and members.
Prepare to be awestruck
@@charlesdrake3125 Yeah, it was only this year that I discovered that Prog Rock is alive and well in the younger generations of musicians with bands like Intervals and Tosin Abasi. This really was refreshing to find out. My taste in music moved into blues, jazz, and Samba/Bossa Nova for most of my adulthood. I think I just missed Tool because I wasn't on the wavelength, so to speak. I just today started listening to Fear Inoculum right before and after this podcast. Very powerful sounds and musicology. Unique, yeah. Moving, for sure.
@@DavidLasoff I've been a fan since the Undertow album and they have yet to disappoint. Their live shows are quite the experience too. I was planning to attend my seventh show last spring before the pandemic.
@@DavidLasoff Lateralus has been their magnum opus so far. enjoy!
@@drizzd1 Thanks!
My favorite bassist ever👽🙏🙏🙏
thanks to all that went in to making this happen 🙏 truly inspiring
Dream Theater and TOOL! Thank you Cosm for creating great content with my favorite bands.
Our pleasure, thanks for listening!
DT, TOOL and Opeth
Justin has such a beautifully profound way of explaining his art and connection to nature that just warms my heart. Highly recommend his interview with Ernie Ball as well.
He’s the best. I love Justin.
Got to say this is a brilliant interview, it gives us the full the insight to how a masterpiece was created. I always say its a freak of coincidence how these 4 came together to make music. The complexity of Tools music means it always stays interesting. This interview gives us a insight into how they make their creations.
@@DavyRo agree 100%. And to be alive at the same time to appreciate it, how’d we get so lucky ❤️
You are...stunningly beautiful too
I also watched that interview and sometimes I play it as a background music just to hear his beautiful bass notes, nice and clean, deep and so spiritual
Thanks Alex & Allyson as well as the CoSM Love Tribe for inspiring ALL of us Creatives...So Much LOVE!!!
Thank you for collaborating all these years!
I have always loved the energy of these two men separately, so its warm and exciting to see them together
"Life-choosing shadow moments" -very nicely said, a great expression of one of the album's most salient but (in)effable characteristics
Love Alex Grey, Love TooL! Just got the Theologue blanket for my birthday :) Met Alex and his wife at the Omega institute in 2013. My fiance did the 5 day art intensive. So glad she had the opportunity. We wish we could get up there more often but we have 4 kiddos and been anchored down. Much Love!
This was an amazing conversation between two amazing artists. I feel like I should have paid to hear this. Awesome stuff.
"Scared if it would be worthy". It is more than worthy, it is a beautiful work of art. Thank you for creating it, and sharing it.
the art in the background is so gorgeous
I feel like I won some competition of getting to watch this! Thanks Alex, Justin and RUclips, and my phone, and WiFi, internet, electricity, etc
I am very grateful for wholesome content like this, Thanks to everyone who made it happen!
Best interview with a member of tool I have ever heard. Thank you both.
It’s nice to see a side of Justin I haven’t seen before, sharing his spiritual views was interesting.
Bless this community!
i loved this so much. i was playing with a song i've been writing while watching this podcast and had a couple ahah! moments listening to Alex and Justin speak.. staring at those paintings in the background. thanks for putting this out here
Lovely interview, thank you. The prospect of Tool releasing material in an unconventional approach, now that they're not contractually obliged to any outside label, is particularly exciting.
What a wonderful interview! Two of my favorite people/artists/souls just having a conversation. Thanks, y'all, much love!
"they are like a medicine" love u guys! never stop doing art pls!
Love how Alex sounds like a supervillain :)
Real artists!!!! I looooooooooove you guys. Such inspiration. Never stop guys. Hi Alex! :)
I so enjoyed every second of listening to these two. I can relate so much to Justin, being connected with nature and finding inspiration from it (I'm also a bass player and also had religion forced when I was younger but not to my liking). Not long after the release of Fear Innoculum I walked to the beach near me and the skies were an incredible shade of purples and pinks and so unusual, nothing I've ever seen before. I was listening to Descending on my head phones and just having a completely connected experience with the music and waves. That's what Tool and their art does. It makes sense.
I was also at that same Tool show as Alex Grey exactly one year ago tomorrow. Grateful for the experience and energy of seeing them live before the world shut down.
Love Justin!! So humble, smart, and creative!!
YES!!!!!!
This is an amazing interview with my favorite bassist of my favorite band.

First concert was 2019 in the SD veijas arena. This guy is a mad man on stage
Loved listening in on this discussion between two great artists.
Maybe Adam Jones next time?
I hope so
I wish Adam had a chance to present himself more.
@@te9591 he was on that one podcast a year ago, which was good.
@@SterlingSimmons22 yeah, I caught a few interviews over the years. To me, he is the most interesting one.
Adam Jones doesn't talk? dont you know that..
Both of your creativity is so inspiring. Thank you for sharing your process and beautiful work to the world.
Happy birthday Justin! Co-incidentally discovering this awesome conversation on his birthday. Love and Respect for Tool!
Alex grey is such an amazing artist
Amazing conversation. Justin has been giving some very insightful commentary lately which is really appreciated. Absolutely love Justin and Alex, spiral out!
The video we all needed right now
Thanks, Alex! Your visual art goes so well with Tool’s music. My 2 favorite artists of all time. And they work together? Just amazing. Can’t wait to come see COSM one day
Thank you for this! Good conversation!
I really enjoy the Album. All Tool albums .
Best podcast ever
Great interview, Alex. Thank you for sharing with us. Thank you to Justin and the band. Fear Inoculum was definitely worth the wait. I’ve been on board since the beginning. Peace
The utility of acoustic panels can be heard in these 2 rooms.
How beautiful is that natural reverb of Alex’s voice? Haha.
Just what I needed today. Thanks Alex and Justin.
Happy 49th birthday to our man Justin Chancellor!🎉🎁🎈🎊🍾🍻
so happy this was posted! :) loved hearing more about the creative process behind fear inoculum! (i never knew about the actual waves recorded in descending or who thought of the whole idea so i found that very interesting and cool!) all in all what a great conversation between these two!! justin is such a talented bassist and super down to earth! i feel so lucky i got the chance to meet him back at the tool VIP show i attended with my boyfriend in 2017 :) i sat up front on the side he was playing and got to shake his hand and chat for a minute after the VIP group photo
A True Gem.
Love it-:) I am a musician and I can relate with some of the things Justin was talking about as far as cultivating ideas in a band. I appreciate the genuine, honest, and interesting conversation.
Good stuff-:)))

Facts. I listened to tool everyday while at work blasting that shit in my headphones grinding away and getting shit done. Thank you for the inspirational music Tool!
I read this comment at the exact time it was playing 😆 I see you universe ✨
Me and Justin said the word 'cyclical' at the same time on my first watch and it's the closest thing to a religious experience I've had all year
You're one of my heroes Alex, I got one of your beautiful blankets as a birthday gift ❤️ (hi to Justin my fellow Brit and favourite bassist 🇬🇧)
It's only a Union Jack if it's on a battleship.
30:05 its amazing how when the album came out it was the first time i heard the word "inoculum" and since then the word inoculate became more and more common in the world to now where we are obsessed with the one thing that may inoculate us
Spectacular!
Waah what a wonderful and inspirational interview! Very excited for the future and for creativity! 💚💚💚💚✨✨✨✨
When I heard the ocean at the beginning of Descending I thought, "Learn to swim!"
Justin's looking so much like Ringo Starr, yes?
Had to google and yes! XD prettier though
Whoa!!!that's uncanny.maybe related down the line?doubtful but still possible
I think Justin is more handsome!
My day has just been made. :)
That art behind him is just insanely good 😮
Love all the joy in this conversation.
Love to you both!!
it's videos like this that make me wish RUclips had a love button
Yes we love you freaks , and big mahalos to you both !!!
Thank you so much for this! I love Justin so much! He is amazing!
Omg *swoon*
I gifted the album and when i heard it I wanted it back. Lol
Oops
That was so beautiful ❤
This was so beautiful, thank you.
Two of my favorite beings on the Planet, right there. Peace, Love and Light!!!! xoxoxo
two most excellent artists ::
Very interesting conversation, nice to see that Alex sounds to be really part of the band. He's not just an amazing artist ;) That's a very nice and long partnership for both and for us too.
And Justin, you can play the bass like many others but this type of sound and rythm doesn't look like any other! You are a fuckin Tool...That was a real pleasure just(in;) to listen to you. Very simple, respectful of nature... thanks for that! Looking forward to see you all in France... and for the next European tour...
Lots of fun to listen and to watch.
Love your art guys ! Thank you so very much! 🌀
Over in South Texas , a perfect circle played concrete Street amph. in Corpus Christi and then tool played American Bank Center maybe 8 months after that I got to see them both it was good shows always worth every penny.
Great interview 🤘😎🤘
what a beautiful soul
Great conversation! Loved it!
When was this recorded? Before or after Adam's 'The Witness' video with the new Tool jam came out? Could be what Justin mentioned when he said "maybe a song AND and a video.."
I hope that's not what he was referring to...it's cool but it just feels like a teaser...
awe, i love Justin. He's great! The tool experience is personal to everyone. u cant try and pin them down too much in regards to what their music means to anyone, how we connect with their amazing music. And we shouldn't really try too much, to quantify their more esoteric side. I always say it, so much depth to this band! What an amazing album FEAR INOCULUM is.
It's amazing to me that Tool have made such a master class of work in 2020, I remember being amazed with their music in the 1990's and I can't think of any other band with such longstanding, high quality work that produced something special like this 30 years on. I want to thank each of them for the great music over the years and especially for what feels like a gift with fear innoculum, and look forward to what comes next.
Yes!!! Amazing! And straight from CoSM!
fascinating, thank you
the artist behind the mind melting artwork of TOOL. very nice
That Chapel is amazing!! Never heard of it before! Thank u, Alex Grey, indeed! Ur art is absolutely perfect for the vibe that Tool has had for decades!
Tool forever, love forever. Thank you for this interview and bring the rest of the gang if possible. Greatest band that ever was or will be
Huge fan tool SINCE 92
no wayy you're OGT?? From the first E.P??;)
So this is the famous Garry White :) I love his distinct voice!
Hey guys at CoSM, I don't want to be annoying but, the volume on this one is kinda low, I can hear it with my stereo's full volume, so, Maybe you could check that out for future videos!
Thanks for getting Justin to give some insight on one of the best albums ever!
Thank you for your feedback! We're always looking to improve.
I was getting the same thing but when I put headphones in, it all sounded great.
Watched/listened to/experienced this video shortly after it was posted. Loved it from the usual point of view, which is to say, I'm so very thankful for this union of minds, bodies, and souls. Usual thoughts! Today, It felt like a requirement, as I was falling deeper into that bad, blank space. AKA life's bottomless pit! Alex, Allyson, and Zena Grey don't simply belong inside the TOOL-Box, they are in fact carriers of some vital Tools, TOOL must use to construct the gifts of art we are fortunate enough to have received. I believe the same applies in the opposite direction. I don't believe they need each other! Although, through love, understanding, and true appreciation for one another, a unique juxtaposition of a shared life experience was formed, and has survived. My most heartfelt thanks, and appreciation for the medicine/answers this video provided tonight. Much love!
Justin - "you know the song the pot?"
Alex - "YASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS"
😂
Man I want to know what riffs he got from his dreams. I always joke about that with my friends, so I was happy to hear it’s a real thing, at least to Tool.
There’s a cool video of Justin performing with Author & Punisher, who opened for Tool on their last tour. For all my fellow lovers of BASS. Thanks for this, Alex!!!
I would love to see the visuals Alex is visualizing as Justin describes parts and songs to him, his head must be going insane with imagery and art
