You absolutely can farm in the winter. Winter Seeds grow snow yam, winter root, crocus, and crystal fruit, which you can turn into more seeds when your Foraging skill is high enough to grow more, the only limits being the length of the season and how long they take to grow. Crystal fruit in particular is good to get ahold of as you can turn it into wine. I suggest investing in some kind of Speed-Gro to reduce the amount of time taken waiting for them to grow in, then putting as many crystal fruit as you can into however many kegs you have available before making more seeds. If doing that would use up all your crystal fruit, you do want to spend some of your days foraging and potentially switch up your Foraging perks at the shrine in the sewer to get the ones that give you a chance a getting double harvest of foraging goods and guaranteed Iridium quality harvests of foraging goods. It doesn't affect the quality of your wine last I knew unless you mod, that's a completely different rabbit hole I wouldn't recommend to anyone new to the game until they've experienced at least enough to get to Grandpa's evaluation, but it does improve your profit when you sell what's left after making your seeds.
I mean, once you unlock the Quality Sprinklers (6 lvl Farming), farming crops doesn't take much time anymore (depending on what crops you plant, you might tend to them just 2-3 days in a Season).
@@tobylake1367 You can farm, Winter Seeds to grow the four foraging items you need for the Community Center, snow yam, winter root, crocus, and crystal fruit. There's two ways to get them, either defeating blue slimes on the cold levels of the mines to get winter root sometimes, then put them into a seed maker, or wait until winter and with high enough Foraging, level 7 to be specific, gather those items and convert them into seeds. The more you grow, the more seeds you can make, and if you use the shrine in the sewer once you've unlocked it to switch up your professions, you can have a chance at double harvest and always get iridium quality then switch back to getting more wood and hardwood from every tree. It's foraging income, but it's still something to do in the season. And once you have kegs, you can turn your crystal fruit into wine before making more seeds when you have more crystal fruit than kegs. That does count as farming income as an artisan good. Not as profitable as Ancient Fruit or Starfruit Wines, but it is not luck based and is completely free to pursue.
