Lucky for me, I didn't have to put in much trouble to fight that big guy. As soon as I went in, I went into the brutality mode and went right in for him. That instantly took him out.

If you mash all the buttons during the Test Your Might minigame you'll build up the meter faster.

Do you know you can do the Test Your Might with all four buttons? (Square, Triangle, X, and Circle) and you can charge it much faster.
