@@bernardolhgc I'll save it, but I still want to get my metal can case with my G-shock.. They should at least decrease the price with this new packaging
It is worth pointing out this new resin is not more biodegradable then traditional PUR resin. This is biomass resin which means they use sources such as corn to create the long polymers in the plastic. This plastic is either slightly more stretchy due to even longer polymers or slightly more stiff depending on the mixture. This type of resin is mostly green washing for Casio at this point since it makes no difference to the environment at all. The bi products of oil and gas that was used for regular resin is still being produced since we are still using fossil fuels so nothing is saved by this, since those bi products are still being produced we might as well put it to use in plastics. I really like that the 6600 is back and I do understand why casio have to move away from EL panels since that is a technology going extinct due to AMOLED and LED displays in tech today so almost no one are manufacturing these panels any more. The disadvantage of EL panels is they degrade over time even when not used so if you find NOS 6600 somewhere and pop a new battery in most likely the panel have already lost 50% of it's brightness by today by just sitting on a shelf all these years. LED's do not suffer this problem and last a lot longer. Considering the original 1995 6600 was known for having the brightest backlight of any G-Shock and a nice rich blue colourway I wonder why casio are no longer having fun with LED's`? My old G-8900SC "Devastator" model have a very bright pink LED backlight called Super illuminator (that is the one found in my avatar here at RUclips). So why why are casio just giving this the standard boring white and weak backlight? I think it should have come with a nice rich blue coloured LED with the same brightness as my old Devastator.
It's a great watch. Was featured in a lot of 90s military and action movies including 'American Sniper'. I have the original DW-6600 and prefer the looks of the original to the new one.
Hi there, the original was not so durable what you think. I owned one back then in 95 ( and i still have it). The case material started to rotting away, it crumbles, about 10 years after i got it. Only the core of the watch left, wich is not functioning now. You can drop it, you can even stand on it, almost indistructable, it only can not stand the pass of the time....but i remember it as a really good watch.
What has rotted on your watch is the bezel, not the case, that part it's intended to be a consumable, so it's logical that it degrades over time. You can put the bezel of a DW-6900 which is the same as the 6600 and can be found for about 20 Euros.
I got mine today. I've 2 originals from the 90s. In the flesh it's a nice watch. The Lcd display is the new super clear type found on the GW5000U. Alarm is better with the date alarm feature. Strap I found more comfortable. Light is better than the 5000U but not quite as good as the old 6600 EL, trouble is Casio have abandoned EL, that's it. Calender on new one is a lot better (full upto 2099), old calender had to be reset each year as it isn't perpetual. Beeps and timers better on old. On balance a worthy continuation. 👍
It is a rival product to the Timex Ironman and it's Indiglo given Casio was competiting it's rights to EL Illuminator, which Indiglo came up something similar. I like the DW6600 for bullet shape timer for seconds is very useful read go up to 50 sec, easy alarm ⑉ 🔔. I bought this one after hearing it’s used by trades, it's proven heavy duty so would say more military and first responder gear it was official for Navy SEALs in the past, reliable for years. Future-proof design and the brightest backlight in G Shock. The numbers are clear. Nothing more to say its more based on function for an active person. It’s a simple G Shock.
There are two other differences with the new DW-6600 and the original. 1 - The time is not displayed in the stopwatch mode on the original , only in the alarm/timer mode. 2 - On the original each second would be displayed on the lower graph triangles and every 5 seconds would be displayed on the upper graph. On the new DW 6600 each second is displayed on the upper graph and every 5 seconds is displayed on the lower triangle graph.
It's a very appropriate reedition, I like that the layout of the LCD is the same as the original. I also like that they didn't make it solar or radio controlled as that would make it lose the essence of the original.
Now that you mention G-Super...its actually a homage to 6600 produced by Mamona...i remembered back in the mid 90's they sold it for a fraction of price of the original G-Shock...but the quality is not bad. My cousin had one and took it into a swimming pool...not a single drop of water went inside the watch. I also had that Mamona but a different model...it was a Buffalo...a homage to the Casio DW-340. Really works like the original Casio. 😆
I like the EL backlight because you can hold the button to keep the light on. Does the new LED let you keep the light on still? That's the deal breaker for me.
I have the DW-6600 in mint condition that I bought off of a good friend. Yesterday I got this the moment I found out about it. Glad there’s still care for this legendary watch!
I had my orginal "made in korea" 6600 that I always liked. Then last week on the goodwill auction site I scored my 6600B that's not only made in japan but it was a legit "Fox Fire" branded(instead of the illuminator branding we got in the US)with the "NHK Japanese TV network" logo instead of the "red G" that is visible with the backlight on my Korean made one. Which all means this thing was JDM. Once I got it home I broke it down to clean like I do with all my vintage shocks,to find this watch had NEVER been worn a single time. My guess was some american TV executive had business with the "NHK Television network" back in 1994 and on top of being very well compensated he was probably gifted a bunch of random things including a casio watch with it's brand new "El backlight" feature, that he then brought home and tossed into a drawer cuz he was a executive who wouldn't be caught dead with a digital watch. Prob passed away and the family donated his things to goodwill
Casio never dissapoint, most reliable brand proven, even with hard use. So many years of honorable service. I had that model (older version) for many years then switched to solar power with all metal construction. 🇮🇹
"...not the GW I'm currently wearing..." as I fondly look to the GW6900 on my own wrist. I like the muted look of the 6600 well enough (my son wears a DW6900MS-1 which carries a similar bezel), but I'm not yet sure how I feel about LED backlighting. I know a number of G-Shocks now use it, I know it's more power efficient, but there's something so much more aesthetic about that soft even EL glow.
Very cool watch. I really wish my 5610 had the auto repeat countdown timer. I never knew that function existed! And I agree, the old school backlight was way better.
Another excellent and detailed review. I almost pulled the trigger, but the new LED is a deal-breaker, for some strange reason Casio is moving away from using EL for there more recent releases. Another worry is that this "bio-friendly" materials will be more susceptible to Casio's infamous "resin rot". The search of NOS continues.
Nostalgia factor is high on this model, but I must resist the temptation and wait to see what comes in the future. Missing dual time which is helpful when traveling and that’s the only negative I have.
Had an original for decades... went with me on various ‘expeditions’. High sentimental value. Idiot destroyed while replacing the battery. The new one looks better than my old original. May have to look into it.
I'd love a non-anniversary 6600 As much as I want one, I'm so sick of Casio's obsession with blackout/single colors. The originals are way too expensive for such a recent one too
Hard agree. I was tempted to get this one but if I did I would have to change the bezel to a stock DW6900 bezel and the strap as well to the 6900. After a lot of consideration I decided to pass. The lack of colors on the dial and bezel are a deal breaker for me also the 40 when you press the back light
they should make it a screw-down case-back version. 🤔 Casio doesn't want to bring back more metal case watches for some reason. I think the last 35th-anniversary dw 5735 is a great watch and there should be something like a dw 6640 screw back
Nice watch, I just got mine! I emailed Casio regarding the durability and reliability of their new bio based resin. This was their answer: “Bio Based Resin is similar in mechanical properties to our Tough resins. Bio Based Resin offers the highest possible content of ingredients obtained from plant-based sources while still maintaining durability and reliability. The advantage of Bio Based Resins are that there are no harmful substances that tough resin does have.” - that said, it feels as though they dodged the question on longevity. Just a heads up.
I can confirm that the one on the new HR square started showing the "shiny" part after a week of wear. Something that usually takes a year to show on normal resin
@@WatchGeek Yes I am having a similar experience with another one of their products. I have a protrek that I recently got and after a couple months I to have a shiny part on my band made with the same bio resin.
I have to wonder if longevity is simply an unknown factor due to the newness of the material, not that it's any reason to give a political answer to a straight question!
Why do they have to have these 40th anniversary logos + LEDs in the light rather than the old school green even illumination with no white hot spots to the left? Its a great looking watch, but why is there always something like that off with g-shock. Thx for the great review tho
Looks like Buyee has a very Japanese sales-y vibe. They tend to offer a lot of discounts if you buy now, but that's only conditional on future purchase. It's easy to get carried away.
Citizen is what Seiko used to be! Incredible bang for buck, EVERYTHING LINES UP PERFECTLY, at least on every Citizen I had, and they are bullet proof! Incredible quality for the money and hugely underappreciated
I don't like monochromatic colour scheme on this. It is very bland. At least display is positive. Colours and fonts were always very important part of Casio look. Last thing: LED technology is better, more reliable and much more long lasting than electroluminescence.
Special edition in an egg carton.

I'm pretty sure they did. They have 2 non anniversary style?
DW-6600PC-5 is what you're looking for. I got this and it looks very good in person.

The best feature of this watch: positive display! Thank goodness!
It's a great watch. Was featured in a lot of 90s military and action movies including 'American Sniper'. I have the original DW-6600 and prefer the looks of the original to the new one.
The backlight totally killed this one for me, with a regular cyan illuminator it would have been a buy.

Hi, I believe they're using LED now because contrast isn't quite good with EL.
best review i've seen that actually goes through the differences old and new thanks 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
far out how do I get one! I neeed it! It's my 40th this year and a watch that's "since 1983" would be PERFECT.
It's a very appropriate reedition, I like that the layout of the LCD is the same as the original.
I also like that they didn't make it solar or radio controlled as that would make it lose the essence of the original.
But not so accurate, as in the original it counted the seconds with the arrows...
And was colored better
Why doesn't it fit around wrist? It looks like there is a ridge or strap doesn't fall straight down?
Great stuff- 4 stars on the keeper for 40 yrs (4 decades) as well.

Funny how the cheaper watches are still sent out in the cans and the expensive ones dont get the can strange
Any idea if the 6600PC is going to be available in the UK.
Real shame about them moving away from the EL back light. Understand that the LED is way more efficient on battery life but it's iconic.
Pretty cool 👍

if I were a Billionaire I would commission casio to make this in Atomic Purple.
no el backligth on an anniversary 6600..??
