    This was such a fun weekend! We went camping, did a beautiful trail run, got in lots of hammock relaxation, and enjoyed some quality time with friends. It was so nice to be able to get off the grid for a bit and just chill. We camped in Cle Elum and hiked Davis Peak and West Davis Peak. Would highly recommend! #AllieOstrander #TrailRunning #NNormal #theathletespecial

    Allie I just wanted to say you are an awesome PERSON!!!! I am not an athletic person not sure how I came across you channel just wanted to say you are so fantastic.
    Had to look up what Steeplechase means lol!!!
    And I hope it’s ok to say that I see the person you are not the medals. It’s amazing you are a champion but your ability to communicate your vulnerability and your humanity is beautiful.
    It’s so fantastic that you share who you are, AS you are. God loves you as you are. You don’t need to be anything other than who you are with and without medals.
    I also see a future decades ahead when you are a communicator and a leader for young athletes and your insights and natural compassion and leadership will continue to inspire. Keep communicating that is also your gift!!!
    May you and your family and loved ones always be protected and live wonderful lives!!!

    Hey Allie! I just found your channel a couple days ago! In middle school I was hospitalized with an ED, and I’m now going to be a senior jn high school. I started my running journey in sophomore year, and I can’t stress enough how much running has given me a purpose to continue recovery, even if I’m not the fasted on my team. I will most likely be running in college( not a super fast one lol), and I’m so nervous about falling back into old destructive habits. Seeing you being honest about your struggles but also overcoming them while still running is such an encouragement to me, so thank you❤️

      Hello!! Sorry to randomly reply to your comment, but a group of high school runners and I are creating a project to showcase unique and powerful running stories. I relate so much to your experiences, running has given me the motivation to make my eating healthier and run in a sustainable way. Are you interested in possibly joining the project or just providing some insight? Totally fine if not. You are incredible and so brave!!

    Allie O...4000 ft. elevation gain in 5 miles with killer views....that's a really strong workout! I loved your words noting that "Its not a competition, but.....we did win!" You have such a great sense of humor!
    Regarding not feeling your best, perhaps you had a bit of lactic acid leftover from some other training?
    Watching your video is great motivation for my recovery. Had a bike crash about a week ago. Spent 5 days in the hospital with two pelvic fractures a sprained shoulder, torn adductor, and a hematoma that ran from just above my ankle....to about a foot above my waist...I was close to bleeding out internally, which came from apparently a driver failing to yield and glancing my back tire.
    I was knocked out for a minute, had no memory of the crash, just that I woke up on pavement, was hurting, bleeding everywhere, and concussed.
    That cheap $43 helmet that I bought in 2012 saved my life. I rode about 1/2 mile back home, and don't remember doing that. Walked upstairs, took a shower, called my bud to take me to ER, and had to crawl down the stairs, and crawl out the front door of my home. I should be 100% in 6-12 weeks, but for now have one walker upstairs and another downstairs.
    But, my times for getting up and down stairs have decreased in the last two days from 3 minutes, to about 40 seconds, and I am hoping for a new PR tomorrow!
    My ICU nurse is a great cyclist, and he told me he is thinking of quitting, as I was his 4th road bike patient that he took care of in ICU that week. Also, I had a good friend who was 39 years old, had just gotten her pro card for triathlon, and she and 4 other cyclists were killed on a 125 mile ride by a driver on meth about 18 months ago.
    Then, there is Shawn Bradley, a former NBA player, who is 7'6". He was riding his bike in St. George, Utah, and for goodness sakes, how can one not notice a 7'6" guy riding a bike? He was one block from his home, but he was hit by a car, and is now a quadriplegic.
    I share this with you, as I really feel for runners, a stationary bike and spin class is great. Getting on the road bike, there is a risk.
    So, seeing you run so effortlessly uphill (at least in appearance) motivates me to get back to running and get in the very best shape that I can. Hey after I get some gel injections in my knees, I am ready to go. Until then...I'll have to take the walker to the track and see what I can handle for 400 meter repeats!
    I really hope I am done being injured, as literally with two pelvic fractures.....this has been a real pain in the ass!! Hope you are laughing on that one!
    Allie O.....run well, be strong, and keep being the flat out wonderful person that you are!

    • @allyson--
      @allyson-- Год назад +1

      Gee, congrats on your stairs PR! What a story/comment. I think it says a lot about your character to be so hopeful & reflective on this very intense injury experience. I bet you could enjoy running down the line of recovery.

    • @randylazer2894
      @randylazer2894 Год назад +1

      @@allyson-- Thank you so much for your very kind words! They are greatly appreciated. Believe it or not, this wasn't the worst! I had a major heart attack many years ago, had double bypass surgery, and couldn't run for about 6 weeks, but ran a marathon 3 months and 3 days after surgery.
      The key thing I was sharing, is that as many runners ride the road bike, and I really enjoyed it, I think the risks of severe injury need to be considered. Thank you again, and I wish you the very best.

    • @allie_ostrander
      @allie_ostrander  Год назад +1

      Randy, I am so glad that you are okay and in recovery from your injuries now. I'll be thinking of you and sending healing vibes your way.
      Stories like this are exactly the reason I am always stationary biking instead of getting out on the roads. Cars are scary!

    • @randylazer2894
      @randylazer2894 Год назад

      @@allie_ostrander Thank you sooo much! You are very, very wise to ride the stationary bike, as far too many cyclists have been terribly injured....and worse. Cars are really scary, especially when they come from behind and you have no chance to avoid an accident.
      I will look forward to your videos of your natural and really great running, which will inspire me me to get back as soon as possible, and to run another marathon.
      Thank you Allie, you are the best!!! 💖
