    TODAYS VIDEO⇲
    A new series where we look at learning the hardest guitar riffs from our favourite bands. This week we look at Scuttle Buttin by blues legend Stevie Ray Vaughan. Whether you are a beginner, intermediate or advanced player this video should be a lot of fun in learning how to play complex riffs!
    5 Steps To Success
    1. Learn the riff
    2. Play along with the backing track
    3. Once you hit a wall stop the backing track and practice the bpm you reached 10 bpm slower until you can play it perfect 10 times in a row
    4. Go back to the backing track and see how much further you get until stuck again.
    5. Repeat steps 3-5 until you can play the riff at the speed you wanted \m/
    Let me know what band you want me to look at next week and their hardest riff! \m/

    I think the original speed is at 156 bpm but I am not quite sure, so I almost made it with 145 bpm. Just a little bit more. Anyway thanks for this great series. You got yourself a new supporter on Patreon

    Honestly the hardest SRV riff for me is Rude Mood lol! But this one definitely takes patience indeed! Awesome work!

      Harder than SCUTTLEBUTTIN'? 😱 Guess I have to go listen to it. Rude Mood. I thought Scuttlebuttin' was rough and Texas Flood turn around opening too. Have a Rocking Good Day

    I am 67 years old and am a banjo player gone ROGUE I guess. Bought 1st ELECTRIC GUITAR EVER April 25th 2023 and it is like a Holiday! Enjoyed your lesson and appreciate the time it takes to do something well. Am at 75% speed with no errors after 10 days. I finger picked it with 3 fingers. Thanks again for the kind "You can do it too" vibes you come with.

    He actually bent the string instead of sliding!

    • @Karlgolden
      @Karlgolden  3 года назад +1

      Maybe on the record but if you watch him live in a few videos he does slide and it is much easier giving same effect 🤘

    Bro i got this to 156 bpm in like a 1/2 hour. Watching you forsure helped tho. Try 2:15+ of little wing. I think Its hard for me because my hands are so wide. my wrist tendons feel serated from just 2-3 Hours on frets 10-15 doing Whole step bend, after updown bend, after hammer on, after ring finger updown/hammer offs to pinky hammer on/off while barring three strings. Try playing a blues solo on frets 18-24 for 3 hours if you have wee hands.

    • @jamesmoore5403
      @jamesmoore5403 5 лет назад

      Just listened to the studio version and its 170+- bpm. Idk why i saw so many ppl say 156? SRV prolly played it a tad slower live, cuh that extra 15bpm sounds daunting to not fuck up. That & SRV never played the same song twice. Edit: Stoped watching 1rst time to use a 'nome, looked to see how well bro played if he went to 170... Lol, 15bpm isnt a huge difference from 130-155, but 155-170 is major.

    Scuttle Buttin is hard but when you compare it to Rude Mood, it is easy.

    Supposedly this riff was originally recorded with bends instead of slides but he always played it with slides live. I actually find playing the bends easier than the slides. I doesn't look as impressive that way though. I've been trying to play this seemingly forever now. I've managed to improve probably 1% during the span of said forever.

    • @Karlgolden
      @Karlgolden  5 лет назад +2

      Oh wow very interesting. God knows how he bends those high gauge strings of his! haha I find the slides a lot easier for me

    • @deathwarmedup73
      @deathwarmedup73 4 года назад +1

      yeah, he bends them on the album. i don't even attempt to do it that way. I read somewhere that it hurt his hands to perform with bends every gig so he slid

  • @richardjones2811
    @richardjones2811 Год назад

    Stevie used his middle finger for the slides most of the riff.

    ❤I use this riff a lot to keep my chops up when getting ready for a gig. And like your video I’m always tweaking it with different notes and also pick, thumbpick or no pick just thumb and fingers, hybrid I guess. It’s of course one of my favorite SRV licks and a fun tune to listen to and or play at a jam. Dig the channel 👍

    I just found this after deciding to learn this riff. I've seen lots of other videos on it, but this one with the accelerating backing track is by far the most useful. As a tip, I find that picking over the fretboard prevents my pick from getting snagged in the strings and greatly increases my speed on this riff. I don't want to play it that way, but getting the picking rhythm is half the battle of learning this riff and it's a great intermediate practice method for me. Great video, thanks!

    Pro Tip if you want to play along with Karl all the way then just speed the video up to 1.75 and then play along with the 90,95 and 100 bpm that way you can play along at full speed :D

    Hey buddy, love watching your stuff. But I need some advice for a complete novice.... But it goes further... And darker, in a way.
    I'm a massive SRV fan, basically grew up loving the man, no regrets. I'm 38 he is still my guitar hero along with satch.
    Here comes the "he bud, advice mate"
    I promised my old man 20 years ago I would play a SRV song before he died, unfortunately hard livingand boxing got in the way..
    Basically, what kinda guitar and type of lessons would you recommend? My main issue with guitar is that I have hands like Andre the giant. So regardless of the heart..... I sound shit. I need advice.
    You are the cooleat guy on this you tube. It refreshing. So many annoying ass hats. Lol
