best Scuttle Buttlin lesson on RUclips, many many thanks for sharing with us!
You're very welcome! Thank you for watching!
@@tommykatona1984SUPER Talent AND Humility ??? Incredibly RARE; God Bless My Brother 🎶♥️🎶‼️
This is about the ONLY scuttle buttin guitar lesson ever.. someone who actually shows how it’s done.
yes! Because its to difficult to play not to mention explain! lol
I believe it’s the hardest SRV lick to play not counting Raking licks in songs like Tin Pan Alley. On the record I can hear him bend on the first part of this Chop but in the live recordings he slides into it so..
I have been following this video for about 4 hours now on a loop. I’ve about got it nailed. My fingers feel like blocks of wood. Thanks a ton for the great tutorial!
That double upstroke is a key to this riff. Fought it for years until Tommy showed me the double upstroke. Made it flow much better once I got that move down! 😊
Hmm...I'll check that out
@@puialusei6234Instead of your eyes, it's better to trust your ears. 😉
@@Mike_D_5150 It will really open it up for you when you get it. 👍👍 Good luck brother!
@@puialusei6234 He definitely did at times!
@@Mike_D_5150 it will definitely help!
You are a mighty force for good. Use your powers wisely. Finally a most excellent Scuttle Buttin' tutorial! Many thanks!
Great lesson! And - great show last night at the Suffolk Theater! Looking forward to the next one!
Awesome stuff! This is what we all need 🤠🎸
your breakdown was easy to understand but hard to play at speed . you are a better teacher than alot of others on you tube . thank you........
Thank you for watching! Keep up the good work, it will pay off I promise.
Thank you. Easily the hardest riff to nail for me for 30+ years. This really helps.
Ditto
Not sure if you have the time but if you did a weekly Stevie Ray lesson your channel would probably explode. You’re a super talent.
I agree
Thommy you are really awesome teacher too!!! thanks for givin' us this masterpiece...stevie stays "alive" in our hearts
Thanks for coming to Stevie Ray Vaughan memorial in Oak Cliff Texas .we enjoyed your band very much please come back anytime soon
this is one that I cannot do. I have probably practiced this more than any other song and I cannot get this right. This made me want another guitar lesson. I feel like I owe you for this video. :)
dude, don't be nervous. You are the man!!!!
Comparing your hand movements to SRV live in Japan. WOW, have you gone to extraordinary detail to achieve that level perfection and sound recreation. They say Imitation is the greatest form of flattery, I think SRV would tilt his hat to your good work! It takes an enormous amount of talent to pull that off, and you have buckets of it.
G’day Tommy. You’ve more than likely nailed this better than anyone else on the net! I’ve watched your live sets and walked away forgetting it’s you and just thinking it was Stevie playing! You’ve got passion brother! Been listening to Stevie for a very long time mate!
👍🇦🇺
I’m glad I’m a drummer! Love you guys!!!
WOW! Aside from the playing (spot on SRV) You are a very humble young man with whom anyone would call a friend and have a beer with. I'm 71 and all my life I never took much interest in focusing on SRV until just this year but when I heard your band do Pride and Joy I was blown away. Great job your dad would be proud I'm sure.
Hey Tommy, I think that if you did a cover of Hendrix's 51st Anniversary in the style of Stevie, that could be something really special. I believe that the song really lends itself to Stevie's voice.
im not a blues player , but this song always felt to me like it doesn't fit , but it does fit at the same time , like he is cramming as many notes as possible , absolute legend SRV
For many years I wanted to learn how to play this fragment. Learned thanks to the author of the channel! Thank you so much! Subscription and boundless respect!
I'm both a fan of Stevie Ray Vaughan and a fan of yours. Great, lesson video Thanks. I will do my best to play this song🎸💕💕
Thanks man. Great lesson. Takes hours to accomplish stuff like that. One lick at a time we're putting in. I'll tell you hours. Hoping to get our licks into you sound great. Thanks man
Oh man, after years I need to relearn this again 😮
Thanks Tommy! i was missing 1 note in there for years throwing off my rythm! havent spent a ton of time with it but now im in the box!
Egy élmény hallgatni téged. Ezt is,meg a koncerteket is. Édesapáddal egyidőben indultam, ő Báró néven emlékszik talán rám. A Magas Fiúk dalárdájában a Kálmánnal sokat beszélgettünk,pécsi blues fesztiválon, stb. Ismeretlenül is ölellek blues testvérem!
amazing man - please do more tutorials. you should have your own true fire course teaching stevie ray
I've always said that Stevie's secret weapon was his right hand-this really proves it. Well done.
Really a great tutorial from this iconic piece of music history.
Awesome! Great to see someone who actually plays like Stevie give these lessons. Next best thing. Would love to see pride and joy intro
Koszi Tommy, sose tudtam hogy mi a doge ennek a riffnek, hiaba probaltam. Hat a sok sok upstroke!!! Wow koszonjuk a mo-i gitarosok neveben😊
have had this riff on the 'get better' list for about a year, just realised my mistake. thanks dude. subscribed.
I think that is the best SB lesson on the web! Thank you very much!!You have a killer tone!! I’d love to know what you are playing through!!
Thanks, man! I'm working on this for two days, and your video has helped a lot. Right hand technique especially. My speed is improving, but wow! I am still at about only half the speed you are playing. SRV was so incredibly gifted. It's an honor to try to get his riffs down pat. I'll keep at it, though.
Best and accurate version, ever heard❤️💪❤️
Just seeing a tribute to Number One makes me tear up. We are coming up on the 34th anniversary of Stevie's cruel and unnecessary passing. Like Stevie, I hope his music helps all who are suffering in any way.
By the way. You're doing really good Tommy. As smooth as water poured out of a bucket, nice feel.
Thanks for this! Great sound👍
Yeah the upstrokes thanks, difference between playing it and playing it right, I appreciate you detailing this out for me dude I’d never .
I hope you make more lessons. This is incredible.
Excellent lesson Tommy, great the way you broke it down 😊.
Aw man! You play great. You look great. You teach great. You are the business!!! Thanks.
Great deal, that slide from a to a# is it that makes the riff!!
Thanks a lot from Italy.
wow never expected a lesson by the legend himself! very nice video! I wonder if you would ever make a tin palley jam tutorial with your jazzy licks. Thanks for this great video!
Thanks bro I love your skill to explain this perfectly in everyday language
Excellent lesson! you cleared up a few problems I was having with the ending
Fantastic!! Thanks for breaking it down (I'll be watching this video for a while). Thanks Tommy.
Thanks so much! Great lesson, easy to follow. I really appreciate your patience. Love to hear you jam as well, cheers!!!
Hey Tommy! Cool to see you givin lessons..my wife Maria and I catch your shows when we can around the metroplex! You are the best SRV channeler around! Keep the bluesy rockin!
This is an excellent lesson! Your playing and tone are dead-on! This is way above my level, unfortunately but the way you broke it down makes me feel like I can give it a go. Thanks for posting this! 🤘
Many thanks Tommy, I guess you are making a lot of people happy by showing us Stevie's tricks. I've been practising this lick for some time but gave up. Now I know at least how to do it.
Thank you for your time doing that. Much appreciated!
I've always wanted to know how to play that the right way. Thanks my friend!
Köszönjük! I was looking for a lesson on this amazing song, and I am so glad that I came accross your channel and tutorials. Fantastic job done! Thanks again!

....i sure enjoy seeing y'all live....keep on keepin' on !!~~~
Great lesson. I have tried to play this before. Gonna give it another shot.
You play it amazingly clean!
Very nice lesson. Congratulations!!! 👏👏
Nagyon nagy vagy Tommy, szeretem a stìlusodat! Köszönöm!
This guy is awesome. 👍
Thanks
I learned this intro back in the day but with a bend instead of a slide and I could never quite get it as fast as it should be. getting the bend in and repositioned for the next note just took too long. Playing with the slide from 3 to 5 shaved time off of my playing it and finally sounds lightning fast as it should.
Good to see you Tommy, hope to see you soon. (Broncos in Hurst Tx probably)
thank you for breakin it down
Your an incredible guitarist!
Thanks for sharing your knowledge!!!
Tommy, your a awesome teacher
Love your playing and thanks for a great lesson on this monster :)
⭐⭐👍👍🎸🎸played my own version for a while now, cause i did not get the knack of it...listening to you made it crystal clear ! now gimme a couple of days and i`m onto ya, haha !!! thanx, mate ! ⭐⭐👍👍🎸🎸
I've been waiting so much for this Tommy! Many thanks you!!
This guy is a gentleman 👍🏻 Thanks 👍🏻
Unbelievable! I finally got it! Thanks bro 👊🏾

Excelente! Muchas gracias por compartir… Saludos desde la ciudad de México.
very good lesson, greetings from argentina!! world champions jeje
The only one I've seen who plays it exactly the way it is. Pro stuff !
Dear Tommy, I really hope you will come over to Belgium some day for a great show. In July 1988 I saw SRV perform here on the Belgium Rhythm and Blues Festival and it was just unforgettable ! See you soon, hopefully !
Great lesson, love you're guitarplaying you play with a lot of soul 👍👍
Thanks for this lesson!
God bless!
FANTASTIC! I love your playing and your entire bands aggressive vibe. I thank god that you guys are all here in the McKinney area and I try to go and see your shows as often as I can.
Awesome job, great breakdown of the process. Can’t wait to get stuck later, I may use a few bits for a blues jam I go to tonight 😬😬🤙🎸
You've got the guitar for it.
Cool Tommy Katona thank you greetz from Belgium 🎸🤠
Excellent lesson ... thank you!
Thank you so much Tommy.
Great job teaching!
Thank you for the great lesson please do more videos about the srv licks!
Love this video. And the tone is perfect. Especially during the rake when you hit the E. I can just hear Stevie. I was always under the impression that he bent the first note of the riff instead of sliding which was made easy due to his humongous hands. But the slide sounds equally as good.
Another teaching video says he bent it in the studio version but would slide it playing it live.
vai Riccà ! che sei fortissimo ! 👍💪
Great tone and teach. Thanks
Thanks for breaking that down, I much appreciate that....
I Subscribed after 1 minute of this video. Thanks for sharing bro ! You are great !
I do think that first first strike of the high E is plucked with the Middle finger. Guthrie Govan taught it as both the B and high E being plucked with the fingers, but I think that’s wrong…it’s just the first open high E being plucked with the Middle finger. Great catch on the Upward rake and the octaves on the open low E and the second fret of the D string…took me years to figure that out. When I first learned it decades ago I used to just hit the open low E for that part, but you are 100% correct on that part!
It's great! Are you planning to make more srv lessons? I'd like to see testify guitar lesson or licks from this song,
especially fast lick in the end, that i can't play by ear) Or, for example, live version mary had a little lamb with fast licks around 12 fret in the beginning. Generally, can you make lesson with Stevie's shred technics?
Very cool, Tommy. Excellent breakdown.
Now I have a decent strat again I'm going to give this a shot, wish me luck.
Brilliant! Thankyou for explaining it so well. Are you planning to do a Texas Flood tutorial? You're an amazing teacher
Best tutorial on it
Wow absolutely amazing!!!
Reminds me a lot of how he played Mary had a little lamb. Very similar setups, cool
