I have been following this video for about 4 hours now on a loop. I’ve about got it nailed. My fingers feel like blocks of wood. Thanks a ton for the great tutorial!
I believe it’s the hardest SRV lick to play not counting Raking licks in songs like Tin Pan Alley. On the record I can hear him bend on the first part of this Chop but in the live recordings he slides into it so..
That double upstroke is a key to this riff. Fought it for years until Tommy showed me the double upstroke. Made it flow much better once I got that move down! 😊
this is one that I cannot do. I have probably practiced this more than any other song and I cannot get this right. This made me want another guitar lesson. I feel like I owe you for this video. :)
WOW! Aside from the playing (spot on SRV) You are a very humble young man with whom anyone would call a friend and have a beer with. I'm 71 and all my life I never took much interest in focusing on SRV until just this year but when I heard your band do Pride and Joy I was blown away. Great job your dad would be proud I'm sure.
im not a blues player , but this song always felt to me like it doesn't fit , but it does fit at the same time , like he is cramming as many notes as possible , absolute legend SRV
G’day Tommy. You’ve more than likely nailed this better than anyone else on the net! I’ve watched your live sets and walked away forgetting it’s you and just thinking it was Stevie playing! You’ve got passion brother! Been listening to Stevie for a very long time mate! 👍🇦🇺
Comparing your hand movements to SRV live in Japan. WOW, have you gone to extraordinary detail to achieve that level perfection and sound recreation. They say Imitation is the greatest form of flattery, I think SRV would tilt his hat to your good work! It takes an enormous amount of talent to pull that off, and you have buckets of it.
Thanks man. Great lesson. Takes hours to accomplish stuff like that. One lick at a time we're putting in. I'll tell you hours. Hoping to get our licks into you sound great. Thanks man
This guy is genius. I have read though that if you watch Stevie closely, he may be using his finger to play the first high E note. This guy plays it beautifully with an upward pick motion, but when i watch the videos, I think he uses his finger!! Still a 10/10!!!
For many years I wanted to learn how to play this fragment. Learned thanks to the author of the channel! Thank you so much! Subscription and boundless respect!
wow never expected a lesson by the legend himself! very nice video! I wonder if you would ever make a tin palley jam tutorial with your jazzy licks. Thanks for this great video!
Thanks, man! I'm working on this for two days, and your video has helped a lot. Right hand technique especially. My speed is improving, but wow! I am still at about only half the speed you are playing. SRV was so incredibly gifted. It's an honor to try to get his riffs down pat. I'll keep at it, though.
Just seeing a tribute to Number One makes me tear up. We are coming up on the 34th anniversary of Stevie's cruel and unnecessary passing. Like Stevie, I hope his music helps all who are suffering in any way. By the way. You're doing really good Tommy. As smooth as water poured out of a bucket, nice feel.
Hey Tommy! Cool to see you givin lessons..my wife Maria and I catch your shows when we can around the metroplex! You are the best SRV channeler around! Keep the bluesy rockin!
Egy élmény hallgatni téged. Ezt is,meg a koncerteket is. Édesapáddal egyidőben indultam, ő Báró néven emlékszik talán rám. A Magas Fiúk dalárdájában a Kálmánnal sokat beszélgettünk,pécsi blues fesztiválon, stb. Ismeretlenül is ölellek blues testvérem!
Dear Tommy, I really hope you will come over to Belgium some day for a great show. In July 1988 I saw SRV perform here on the Belgium Rhythm and Blues Festival and it was just unforgettable ! See you soon, hopefully !
Many thanks Tommy, I guess you are making a lot of people happy by showing us Stevie's tricks. I've been practising this lick for some time but gave up. Now I know at least how to do it.
⭐⭐👍👍🎸🎸played my own version for a while now, cause i did not get the knack of it...listening to you made it crystal clear ! now gimme a couple of days and i`m onto ya, haha !!! thanx, mate ! ⭐⭐👍👍🎸🎸
This is an excellent lesson! Your playing and tone are dead-on! This is way above my level, unfortunately but the way you broke it down makes me feel like I can give it a go. Thanks for posting this! 🤘
Hey Tommy, I think that if you did a cover of Hendrix's 51st Anniversary in the style of Stevie, that could be something really special. I believe that the song really lends itself to Stevie's voice.
I learned this intro back in the day but with a bend instead of a slide and I could never quite get it as fast as it should be. getting the bend in and repositioned for the next note just took too long. Playing with the slide from 3 to 5 shaved time off of my playing it and finally sounds lightning fast as it should. Good to see you Tommy, hope to see you soon. (Broncos in Hurst Tx probably)
Köszönjük! I was looking for a lesson on this amazing song, and I am so glad that I came accross your channel and tutorials. Fantastic job done! Thanks again!
FANTASTIC! I love your playing and your entire bands aggressive vibe. I thank god that you guys are all here in the McKinney area and I try to go and see your shows as often as I can.

This is about the ONLY scuttle buttin guitar lesson ever.. someone who actually shows how it’s done.
yes! Because its to difficult to play not to mention explain! lol
I believe it’s the hardest SRV lick to play not counting Raking licks in songs like Tin Pan Alley. On the record I can hear him bend on the first part of this Chop but in the live recordings he slides into it so..
You are a mighty force for good. Use your powers wisely. Finally a most excellent Scuttle Buttin' tutorial! Many thanks!
Wowowow!!!!! Thank you 🙏 Tommy!!!! I wish I would’ve known SOONER that you had your own RUclips page!!! ❤❤❤🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏❤️❤️❤️❤️🙌🙌🙌🎸🎸🎸🎸👏👏
dude, don't be nervous. You are the man!!!!

your breakdown was easy to understand but hard to play at speed . you are a better teacher than alot of others on you tube . thank you........
Thank you for watching! Keep up the good work, it will pay off I promise.
Thank you. Easily the hardest riff to nail for me for 30+ years. This really helps.
Ditto
I’m glad I’m a drummer! Love you guys!!!
I've always said that Stevie's secret weapon was his right hand-this really proves it. Well done.
Great stuff, Tommy! Looking forward to seeing you guys at the Harbor in Rockwall on Thursday.
Thanks for coming to Stevie Ray Vaughan memorial in Oak Cliff Texas .we enjoyed your band very much please come back anytime soon
