I think GSP was more of a technician and more cerebral fighter than a creative and artistic one. That's a not a knock on him. He obviously made it work. He's one of the greats. But I would say an early Jon Jones or Anderson Silva before the UFC and in some of his UFC fights were more creative and artistic fighters. They definitely did some things out of the box. GSP was well rounded with few weaknesses and he put them all together better than most to overwhelm his opponents.
MG was 15 years ahead of everybody else. Seatbelt, arm drag, bodylock passing, the step-back, good double leg takedown... there's still stuff he did that people dont/cant do.
@@The-Dom he didn’t create anything new . The body lock the arm drags and x guards was there already . He just used those techniques in a different way and speed.
Marcelo is an absolute revolutionary. Everything he did at ADCC was studied for years and years, then he would come back and do it all again. One of the most dominant competitors of any generation.
@@isaaccotto3236 no argument to that really. Only knock on Marcelo was that he never won the open class, that's what people always bring up. But he's amazing.
me and my son just did 2.5 hrs private with him a couple of weeks ago. he's so humble and a very nice person. changed my outlook about jiujitsu, and definitely gave me a new drive!
Yup lame in comparison as flo highlights videos are a joke. Most of the clips they put into the videos are people walking into the match and shaking hands. Plus they make them like 2-3 minutes long.
Marcelo is one of those on in a million guys who has great genetics to be naturally strong, fast and athletic. Most people should be following a proper strength strength program.

I'm writing about BJJ and wrestling. Could you let me know what the original source of this video is? I don't think the interview was taken recently, because he looks younger than theses days.
there is a stupid discussion regarding "who's the goat", obviously it s not just about number of wins, but also something very subjective like the way you inspire people. And to me Marcelo had a freaking impact. Rafael Mendes as well but later. Hope MArcelo gets better soon, we need him
Great vid. If no one’s seen it, please watch the footage of MG vs Hendricks on pure takedowns. I’m a bjj guy and wrestler, I love MG’s style and massive contribution, but this footage highlights difference in takedowns of pure wrestlers vs bjj guys. Obviously, you might say, but still great to watch!

Jacare was a BB in BJJ and judo and his takedowns are better then Marcello. Marcello's MMA career was lacking in wins because of his lack of knowledge with takedowns. Wrestling is easier to learn then judo but once u understand judo takedowns, they are a lot more smoother then wrestling. U see this with Islam Makechaev, Demian Mia using sasae tsurikomi ashi on Chael Sonnen and Fedor Emelienko
Marcelo also struggled in adapting his chokes with gloves on, which is why he couldn't finish his opponent. Jacare is also one of those hard-working talents that would've done week regardless of what sport he chose- almost like a Roy Jones Jr
Judo requires a lot of kuzushi (unbalancing) before the takedown & while that typically doesn't translate well without the gi, guys like Fedor/Khabib made it work very well for them, esp Fedor with his looping strikes to clinch entry/takedown setups
@@merkins87 ur wrong with the kazushi without the gi. Very wrong, wrestlers do it also but they call it a setup. It's really kazuzhi. U aren't very well versed in takedowns I assume
@@moefinesse9878 the kuzushi that is implemented in judo is vastly different to the takedown setups in wrestling, let alone clinch entrances in mma. Go watch a Japanese judoka set up his entrance, then see how well it translates to mma, vs. Fedor who albeit having a judo black belt, uses vastly different entrances for his takedowns. I take it you're not very well versed in martial arts, I assume.
@@merkins87 Fedor's entrances are MMA based entrances. He throws a volley of punches to strike and to have a 2nd option. This 2nd option is to attempt a takedown. the mechanics of his takedowns are judo/sambo based. It is very effective, and has been proven by Rhonda Rousey and Islam Macheachov.

@@LibertyOverDeath-27 You re absolutely right, Anderson Silva was far the most artistic of all. I completely forgot him sorry
GSP was an athlete. He wasn’t very impressive or nuanced from a technical standpoint.

Practicing wrestling is a waste of time. Work on guard work on escapes when someone has your back work on getting out leg locks. For stand up boxing.
