In this video, I analyse their amazing performance, explain and demonstrate their vocal techniques and I'll tell you what I think made it so great. What an EPIC combination of vocal talent!

You said you would imagine them as Dimash'es parents. That would indeed be quite reasonable - Dimash'es dad is a contemporary singer and his mom is an opera singer (soprano), and although they are not world famous, they are known in their country. You knew that, didn't you?

Peter Freestone (Freddie's assistant) described the visit to the Royal Opera House on February 3rd, 1981, for the performance of Un Ballo in Maschera where he (Freddie) heard Montserrat Caballe for the first time. "It was a pure joy to see the wonderment on Freddie’s face after she had finished singing in the trio during Act I. Freddie just couldn’t believe what he had heard and said then he had just heard the greatest voice in the world."

She was also very funny and not full of herself - during a concert after some heavy rain, moths were all over the stage, attracted by the stage lights. She had to stop singing because she didn't want to swallow some (there were A LOT of 'em) and giggled all the time until the problem had been taken care of. Didn't throw a fit and gave some extra time on top.

If you want to hear Freddie being really operatic. Listen too "Exercises in free love". This is a recording Freddie made for Montserrat (Montsy) of the melody (no words) he'd written for her, put to piano after his death.
When he gave this recording to.her, Montserrat pretended she wasn't sure about it and asked if she could take it away to listen too. She actually loved it, got a friend to write lyrics and debuted it at Convent garden concert with an unknowing Freddie in the audience. The final song "Ensueno" is also on the Barcelona album. Yes, they did a whole album of duets and I'm sure you'd love most of them.
PS Barcelona isn't about Barcelona, it's about Freddie finally meeting Montsy in Barvelona and getting to sing with her. He adored her, said she was the most beautiful thing he had ever heard and that the World needed to.hear her, but thought she was too famous to.ever sing with him, despite him being the most famous singer on the planet at tje time. Listen to.the opening lines "I had this perfect dream, this dream was me and you. I want all.the World to.hear you. Miracle sensation, my pride and inspiration..."

Montsy said Freddie was interested in Phantom of the Opera. She recorded a section of it and sent it to Freddie. It makes me wonder if Freddie might have performed as the Phantom if he hadn’t been sick. Those two performing those songs would have been great. We lost so much creativity when he died! He not only dared to sing with the greatest soprano opera diva but Freddie and his friend Mike Moran co-wrote the whole Barcelona album. Every song is a masterpiece. I love everything he did. ❤

She didn't really think this would work, singing with a rock singer... But needless to say once she heard him sing, well, the rest is history. She fell in love instantly. Freddie had that effect on people. He was so charismatic and had a voice of a god. They have studied his voice and it has characteristics that a human should not be able to do... And you can hear it and feel it in your soul. Freddie and Montserrat made a masterpiece here! Awesome song!

Of course that was composed (mainly) by Freddie.
Freddie told in one interview that he wanted to work with Monserrat, Montserrat saw that interview and got in contact with Freddie.
When they finally meet, Monserrat expected all the song were already finish and she just had to record her part of the singing, not knowing that Freddie "writes" his songs in the studio, testing out this and that and that she had to become part of that process.

Mike Moran the co-writer and pianist is directing. Freddie wrote the lyrics.Brian is not wielding the light sabre; he wasn't even there . . .Roger and John did attend the event. Yes, she has marvelled about how 'free' this project made her feel/enable performance wise. I believe she says In Opera a strictness prevails.
