Thank you chaps for this discussion.
Bless you.
This is not talked about enough in our industry. Thanks so much! You and Eric are so knowledgeable. Great to have access to some real valuable information.
Marchello Diaz thanks for watching! Eric’s got me beat hands down on the knowledge aspect
This is an excellent topic -- I am a DIY auto restorer and this video helped me. Thanks.
This is super important stuff!! Thank you Michael and Eric. You guys are doing great stuff for the industry.
Nicholas Painter thanks man!
Great video and I appreciate you bringing light to this subject and safety in general
Pete Rose thanks for tuning in man, me too. When I started out I had it in my head that I was invincible, the longer I do this the less I think that’s the case
You guys are awesome, I learned a lot thank you!
Joe Skok thanks for watching joe!
Thanks for opening up my eyes! Great job you two👍
Thanks for watching darrin!
Great video! 👍 I’d just like to emphasize to everyone to ALWAYS wear your PPE when working around chemicals, even if you don’t smell them. In 1982 I spray painted a battalion of military vehicles without using any PPE whatsoever. No ventilation or exhaust system either. The paint was called Chemical Agent Resistant Coating and it was a solvent-based aliphatic polyurethane paint. The pigments contained lead and hexavalent chromium. The paint also contained hexamethylene diisocyanate (HDI), toluene diisocyanate (TDI), xylene, crystalline silica, and a host of other VOCs. I would blow paint out from my nose daily, and the paint also stuck to my eyelashes and hair. A few months ago I had a chest CT for chronic cough, which revealed lung nodules and bibasilar acteletasis (collapsed lower lungs), CT sinus shows polyps and cysts, and I’ve been diagnosed with allergic conjunctivitis. I also have symptoms of Isocyanate sensitivity and am scheduled for allergen testing. Be safe everyone!
Great info guys. I currently use Hydro Edge from Lorchem. I inquired about their cross-linker, they have two, and was informed that their Polyfunctional Aziridine cross-linker should not be used unless the individual has a booth as well as air feed mask system. Because of this potential danger, Lorchem has a Non-Aziridine cross-linker. Work hard, play hard and live long. Thank You.
Switch This pretty awesome that they have a secondary option without the aziridine
Facial hair on point.
yeah my dad told me some waterbase products will kill you faster then solvents. and he was an old union painter that did paint inside those water towers. luckily hes 65 and cancer free
Planned to use a renner 2k poly. Below is my safety gear.
DuPont TY122S Disposable Elastic Wrist, Bootie & Hood White Tyvek Coverall Suit 1414, Large
3M Personal Protective Equipment Large Half Facepiece Reusable Respirator 7503/37083(AAD), Respiratory Protection, Large
3M Multi Gas/Vapor Cartridge/Filter 60926, P100 Respiratory Protection
SolidWork Safety Goggles with universal fit, Safety Glasses with coated lenses, Scratch resistant
I don't have a spray booth or air-fed respirator. What are your recommendations regarding upping the safety game? Maybe an air fed respirator?
I plan to spray in an open garage
Non-explosive air extraction is paramount on a refinishing situation. If you can remove the particles from the air, then the risk is less. With the advent of non-explosive on-site fan extractors at a nominal price that should increase the level of safety as well.
don't need explosion proof equipment with the waterborne stuff
exactly why we switched.
Great info guys. How about WB pre-cats like Kem Aqua or agualenta pre cat lacquer? Are they in the same toxic boat?
Different kind of toxic but toxic not good to breathe nonetheless. Respirator should be worn at all times when spraying as well as extraction/ventilation
i found a product that can reverse some of the damage that we have done to our lung . i was having all kinds of shit come up from my lungs . afterwards i couldn't handle the lacquer smell anymore.
Yea i'll stick to spraying the crosslinker that doesn't contain Iso's man, just not worth my health.
I am doing a 2k product. I wish proper PPE for this wasn’t so confusing. I have no idea what cartridge I need to buy or if provided air is 100% required. I’m really confused.
so is there a filter that blocks 1k poly or should i still invest in a full mask with fresh air feed. i already wear a full face mask and tyvek suit cause i have asthma but i feel fine when protected.
Rick Bailey sounds like you are protected man. And glad you are taking those precautions. I got full face respirators and suits for my team now too
