both Andrew Garfield and andrew scott were the voices that caught me like they were with you and Tom hardys voice is always noticeable so perfect choice
HOLY SMOKES. I finished the audiobook 10 minutes ago and im absolutely blown away by every aspect of it. The cast, the score, the adaptation! MY GOSH! This is how audiobooks are made!!! BRAVA! BRAVO!
isn't it amazing!? I couldn't believe it. Didn't think I could hear that story one more time and then I was hooked from the start. Couldn't stop listening.
Listening to this audio audiobook was my first ever time experiencing the story of 1984 and my first ever audiobook at all. It was INCREDIBLE! THE STORY AND THE ACTING AND EVERYTHING! SOOOO GOOOD!!!!
Couldn’t agree more!!! The sound was absolutely on point as well. I was walking while listening to the book over my headphones, and jumped or turned around several times thinking that someone was speaking right next to me, when it was the book. It sounded so real, my brain believed it. I was absolutely immersed in the story. BRAVO INDEED!
Tom Hardy as big brother is one of those things where he wouldn’t be my first choice but then as soon as I heard him I can’t think of anybody else doing that
An amateur aural story teller like me can only marvel at how well this whole production came together. Every piece fit so well; my ears couldn't believe what they were hearing. The sound engineering and design were a delight to my cochlea, the music moved the story through its twists and turns, the writing adaptation by Joe White is brilliant, and obviously the director and cast killed it. I've listened to it 3 times and every time I do, I hear something new and notice different facets of depth. The foley work is my fave part. I'll be thinking about how some of these sound effects were made for a while.
This is giving me goosebumps tbh. I love Orwell and his works with my soul. I am so glad zi get to live in a world where these wonderful actors and the team can bring the book to life as an audiobook❤
Impeccable production. I will point out just a handful of aspects I really liked that a to-be listener might not expect to be special: 1. The music. Terrific tunes in the spirit of 80’s dark wave, got me hooked all along. 2. The sound effects. Excellent sound effects that make the recording vivid and at an arm’s length. 3. Supporting performances. From the Parsons to the last street vendor, all the supporting performers have my applause. They make this piece of art breathe. Thank you for this inclusive production, another step down the right path, in my opinion. Audible, you got yourselves a new long-term subscriber.
I recently bought 1984 and something told me to wait for an audiobook because I just looked at the cover of the book and I knew that this would be a book that Andrew Garfield would read and sure enough he was doing an audiobook
I've wanted to read this book for such a long time (I heard about it from Matt Bellamy, because I'm a huge Muse fan!) and this made me want to start it TONIGHT. Amazing, I love this, and can't wait to listen to this as well!
This was a brilliant performance by all involved! I was blown away by the quality and creativity in bringing this story to life. Bravo! Hats off to the director.
Finished this during 2 and a bit dog walks 😂. Incredible. Everyone involved should be proud. Perfect cast and to top it off Muse is my favourite band so loved the score and the Muse songs tucked away as background sounds. Brilliant listen
Amazing performance by Andrew Garfield and all the voice actors! It unlocked the reality of political systems across the globe, a sentiment echoed across decades. I hope more younger listeners run across this Audible book.
Both of my favourite Andrews, one of them playing my favourite villain in my favourite book, AND one of my favourite musicians?! Audible I don’t know what I did to deserve this but thank you 😭🩷
I have read the book with the love story in mind this time around and it’s tragic! If love wouldn’t take the pain of a loved one but people do take the pain for whom?
That guy playing Parsons! Fang, he was GOOD. He remindede of a verse from the book of Job in the Bible; *"Skin for skin. All a man has he will give for his life"* when he tries bargaining for his own life, by being willing to surrender his wife and kids.
Julia sounds like Emma Stone, so it was Emma Stone in my head while listening to it Andrew Garfield is so phenomenal! Absolutely talented! And Andrew Scott, his voice was so soothing

[SPOILERS THROUGHOUT] I listened to the first part last night. The production, use of sound and voice acting is truly remarkable. It's the kind of thing I look forward to and hope for in an entire cast audio production. Not to be fancy, but the use of diegetic and non-diegetic sound very much grasps you, whisks you from place to place, and frankly scares the bejesus out of you when it needs to!! What gave me cause for concern, on the other hand, was the irony of Orwell's work being spliced down to a significant degree. I understand it is for the purposes of dramatisation; it needs to be snappier and to the point. And I presume Andrew Garfield and Tomas Hardy don't come cheap! The real problem came when I heard that one of the characters was being portrayed as a woman rather than a man. Insignificant, perhaps, but the REWRITING OF HISTORY is PRECISELY what the books warns about. Little by little, one seemingly insignificant detail by one seemingly insignificant detail., until one day, on looking back, what we thought we knew is completely unrecognisable. But what do I know? (I wonder what kind of reimagining the book will take by 2084? A feel-good musical perhaps?)... Furthermore, I'm sure this decision was made for reasons of punchiness, but actually going "behind" the telescreens and into the Ministry of Truth (?) and listening to the party members that are spying on Winston takes away one of the fundamental elements of the story; the Panopticon styled surveillance, where we ought not actually know if they *are* watching and listening to Winston! That was one of the main tensions throughout the whole book! Even though we know the tragic ending, it is the hope that perhaps Winston may get away in the end. This is one of the primary tragedies, and in this reimagining, that tension is completely removed. One final point I couldn't help but to feel uncomfortable about. Audible made this production. Audible is owned by Amazon. Amazon has a product called an Alexa (you may have heard about it). And Alexa [sarcasticly] definitely doesn't listen to private conversations! Wink wink! So I wondered why this production, why now, and why in this manner?! Perhaps I'm entirely off the deep end. (I don't deny it!). Still, the decision I mentioned earlier about how we get to go "behind" the telescreen and listen to the spying, I think that's a little reminder that the people who run the largest, most profitable and all-pervasive business in the world, that have Alexas and Ring cameras in many houses, want you to remember that, as Tomas Hardy so eloquently puts it, "Big Brother is always watching you"...
Did Big Brother actually speak in the book? I mean, I don’t remember there was a mention of recorded voice that was played. Syme should not have been gender swaped, it takes away the effect when Smith actually has female company. The actress playing Julia, has beaytiful voice, however, she sounds much more mature than a girl in her twenties.
I've listened to promotional excerpts of this production, and i'm sorry to say that the tone and inflection are all wrong. 'O'Brien' is not shouty, for example. "Reimagining" a classic text isn't always the right choice.
I’m sure the performances are great with talented voice actors, but irony that most probably think big brother is what MAGA would become left unchecked. They don’t see that the the woke progressive movement are the ones rewriting history and compel all to fall in line with group think
@@eringate Ironically, 'woke' means becoming aware of social injustice. The term has been hijacked by those who deny racism, the genocide of the indigenous peoples in North America, are anti-LGBTQA+, anti-vaccine because they feel threatened. Who is 'rewriting' history? 'The term 'woke' is a prime example of doublethink. How did it come about? Some people have lost the ability or the drive to use critical thinking. They want to be told what to think, how to act, who to hate.
You clearly don’t really understand 1984. It is a criticism of authoritarianism. Wanting all people to live equally and freely is not that. Also, orwell was a socialist. Let that sink in

Scott's O'Brien is so menacingly understated! well done. Also, Hardy sounding like Bane was the perfect big Brother.
I was blown away by Andrew as Winston man I would love an actual movie with this cast now absolutely phenomenal
Holy shit that film would slap
Listening to it now it’s amazing! Giving me war of the worlds energy, the audio always hits so hard. I hope this becomes a favourite listen.
This is a dream come true. 1984 is my favorite book of all time and Andrew Scott and Garfield my favorite actors.
