I remember Chris Osgood did Yoga near the end of his career to help with flexibility. And then there was Hasek who, when asked how he was able to play at such a high level so long, responded with "I'm stretching before games now."
@AKsleepygirl the mental game is absolutely huge for goalies. Much of being a good goalie is knowing where to position oneself to face a shot, and even the most athletic goalie in the world will almost certainly have a losing record if a goal against distracts them from the game. This, I would wager, is a large part of why Jordan Binnington was so effective for the Blues last season. His mental toughness almost never cracked. Of course, a very high level of athleticism is still required to play at an NHL level.
Adding to Buffalo, remember, too, that the hand grasping their stick needs protection. Pucks are coming at their wrists at an incredible speed. Thus, the Blocker.
As an NHL commentator once said ‘You have to be tough and a little crazy to stop pucks travelling over one hundred miles an hour...’ ‘Two of the best of all time, known for the use of the pillows, Vernon and Roy square off’ 1997 - Red Wings, Avalanche. The ‘Blood Game’

Lawrence of arabia looks so great (aside from the obvious skill of david lean) because it was shot on film and the original film was still in good condition so it was remastered (a VHS version from the 80s would look bad too). 4:05 goalies have a catching glove in on hand and a blocker (pretty much just a typical glove with a blue king board on the back of the hand to block shots) in the other so they can hold their stick
Two things: 1- when it comes to goalies having hand eye coordination and them being robots and fake (i know thats just a reaction) its something called goalies intuition. Like a mothers intuition but for goalies. They just know whats gonna happen. 2- yes they have a glove on one hand and the pad on the other is called a blocker, or the slang term is waffle. Adam, you're hilarious and so entertaining. I'm glad you appreciate hockey. As an Alaskan that's been playing for 25 years its good to see a soccer fan liking hockey and seeing how crazy it can be.
I'm a little late to the party, but one thing many people say is "those goalies are lucky". Yes, some stops are pure luck, but when a goalie makes a save its because he set up an angle and knows what is open, and what you can shoot at. So when they slide in the splits, they know you have to go up with the shot, then they put their stick/heel in that area as you shoot. Follow a goalies eyes, if his head is turned towards the puck, its skill, and putting a pad in the only remaining areas you have. Now there are some players, where you can stand with 100% certainty they can't see the net, and they'll pick a hole you didn't even know existed.
Yesssssss glad you finally got to this. Goalies are a whole nother breed in hockey! FYI on goalie gear: Legs: Pads, on each leg. Left and right pad. Stick hand: Blocker. A glove to hold the stick, and a pad called the "blocker" on the back of the hand. Non-Stick hand: Glove Also goalies going down into that formation where their pads are like a fence on the ice, glove ready, blocker set, and probably precursor to hip problems in the future. That formation is called the Butterfly. Best way to try to increase your chances of saving it, but when you go down like that, you've essentially laid down your hand, because you can't slide on the ice with your pads like you could move if you had a skate blade on the ice, and you likely leave a side of the goal open when trying to save it, so if the puck goes across, you're gonna have to reach out with your pad, but in doing so, would open up your legs.
I love how what you are seeing is so mesmerizing, so incredible, you can't process it quickly enough to keep up with the commentaries. It's why fans don't cheer much during the play, it happens so fast you HAVE to concentrate on the game.

I’ve never asked for a reaction before but I’m going to start now. Can you please react to Alexander Ovechkin of the Washington Capitals. He’s easily the most exciting NHL player in the league. He can score, fight, Dangle, Hit and make amazing plays. You will not be disappointed.
MrSharkFIN for sure! Glove just feels a bit less specific & I try to be as precise and clear as possible in my use of language generally so I usually opt for trapper. Maybe it’s more of a local thing in my city though? Either way, glove totally works too!
5:37 I think this has to be the greatest save of all time. Puck hit the post, came back to play behind goalies back and somehow he got his glove to save the rebound.
I love watching older games because I actually know who the goalkeeper is. I know some of them now but this is like a nostalgic video for me. Keep with the hockey videos. Love em. 10/10. I appreciate the hand full of thank yous

I only wish you got to see more of the goaltending legends for the early 2000s like kiprusoff and Hasek work their magic. Two legendary scramble style goaltenders.
Almost all of these are known as “desperation saves” so they’re a little hard to practice because every situation is different every time but when we do game like drills in practice that’s technically practicing it. Awesome video! I’m happy you’re getting into hockey!
Patrick Roi was a killer goalkeeper in the league for years. A comedian here said he was watching a hockey game and the announcer said, “Saved by waa!” (Clearly, born or descended from French Canada) The comedian joked, “I don’t know what game he’s watching, but Roy is kicking butt!”
The a lot of people think the NHL is a bunch of goons who fight & hit, but they also have great skill to be able to skate at the speed they do why controlling a small puck on ice is very difficult. Adam keep doing what you do, your great to watch & ❤ the accent.
The announcer at 2:05 name is Rick Jennerette, I probably butchered the spelling on that but if you could react to a compilation of his that would be great
I grew up with hockey, and I have to say it's pretty awesome to watch someone seeing all this for the first time. Its like having a large, bearded child
7:03 Martin Brodeur, all-time regular season leader in wins (691), losses (397), shutouts (125), games played (1,266), and goals scored (3). 7:26 Known as a great puck-handler behind the net (think of it as dealing with back passes from defenders as a goalkeeper), the trapezoids were added BECAUSE of him, so goaltenders have less space to roam behind the net.
Hey Adam buddy, I’m from small town in southern Ontario eh, just wanted to say I love your reaction videos hockey is huge in Canada and the way you react is halarious. Keep up the vids man and cheers from team canada
5:12 This was what looks like the 80's (notice the lack of the trapezoids behind the goal). Goaltenders then tend to be more upright, and they don't get down on both knees, maybe one. 5:28 Standing kick saves were more prominent. 5:29 That was Patrick Roy (Wah, French pronunciation), who later switched to the hybrid and butterfly (knee down) styles of today.
I hope you'll be okay with Lorenzo coming up toward Ireland. But I loved this video, the reactions were great. Braden Holtby made one hell of a save in the Stanley Cup finals of 2018 and it was called 'The Save' but should have won some kind of award, then again winning the Stanley Cup is one a pretty good award.
Goalie gloves consist of a "Trapper" on the non-stick hand for catching pucks. Glove Saves are a fan favorite highlight for sure! On the stick holding hand the goalie wears a "Blocker" or a "Waffle Board" if you're an old fart. Its for both protection of the back of the arm/hand as well as deflecting shots away from the net! Just in case no one has given you the run down bro! Awesome content by the way, im a new sub and I've been binging your reaction vids the last few days!! Much love from Canada brother!
The glove is called a "Trapper" which is used to catch and trap the puck or cover the puck to stop the play. The other hand has what is called a "Blocker" which is for blocking the puck and to protect the hand that is holding the stick.

I saw goalie in the title and thought it was 14 minutes of pissed of goalies and-😑
Hello._. what do u want Best goalie vid ever
Man you're awesome. Legit reaction and true appreciation of sport skill, no matter the sport and I love it. I am like that too and totally understand how you react! And you're super entertaining!! Keep the good stuff coming mate.
I’ve never asked for a reaction before but I’m going to start now. Can you please react to Alexander Ovechkin of the Washington Capitals. He’s easily the most exciting NHL player in the league. He can score, fight, Dangle, Hit and make amazing plays. You will not be disappointed.
James Hawley I’m sad the Holtby save from the finals wasn’t in this video
I'm recently been a new subscriber and already you are one of my favourite channels... you seem really chill and your hilarious buddy keep it up😂🔥💯🐐
The pad on their hand is called a blocker and the glove on the other is called a trapper!
We call it glove as well.
MrSharkFIN for sure! Glove just feels a bit less specific & I try to be as precise and clear as possible in my use of language generally so I usually opt for trapper. Maybe it’s more of a local thing in my city though? Either way, glove totally works too!
@@xNecroNvRDiesx I just call it glove. It just feels natural to me.
Keeper’s Trapper? As an 80’s kid I’m lmao right now 😂
5:37 I think this has to be the greatest save of all time. Puck hit the post, came back to play behind goalies back and somehow he got his glove to save the rebound.
Let’s go! I’m hyped for this one!
Hope you enjoy bro
Adam Couser definitely will! A lot of these saves are by my favorite teams goalies the Buffalo Sabres!
I’ve been dying to see this one!
Dude, love your hockey reactions. It's so funny to watch, thanks!
You should react to “nhl puck stuck in equipment”
It's so much fun watching how much you enjoy the NHL videos :D
You should react to "Weird NHL"
I was about to suggest this myself before I saw this comment
Recently started watching your video's, always a great laugh thanks man. Keep it up 🖒
React to the magic man aka Pavel Datsuyk
Don’t think I’ve seen your jaw drop this many times. 😂😂😁
Yo how do you feel about boxing and MMA
I love watching older games because I actually know who the goalkeeper is. I know some of them now but this is like a nostalgic video for me. Keep with the hockey videos. Love em. 10/10.
I appreciate the hand full of thank yous
You should react to nhl suspensions by canucksfan27
I like to see the sport of hockey being spread. Keep up the great content
Ready to Sidney Crosby highlights, the greatest player of our generation
The coordination it takes in hockey is unbelievable. I've watched 9 and 10 year olds play and it's crazy even that young!
You have to watch “best saves of the 80’s and 90’s” as well.
5:15 that was from late 80s to early 90s since it was Patrick Roy in net. Probably explains the quality for you.
Great vids man. I love your stuff. Keep up the great work!
I love all the questions you ask in every hockey video! I feel like I need to be your personal hockey correspondent lol 😂 I’m a hockey ref and player and love watching you discover our wonderful game
Hey Adam, my cousin is your doppelganger! We live in the college hockey capitol of the US, New England. Love your videos, you should react to Zdeno Chara of the Boston Bruins, he's the tallest NHL player and has played for 21 seasons.
What really adds to some of these is that they are in OT or the playoffs. The tension is incredible and it makes the saves all the more meaningful!
Keep doing NHL content and I'll keep watching
Goalies actually rarely practice diaving at all. And we rarely dive out laying down.
I only wish you got to see more of the goaltending legends for the early 2000s like kiprusoff and Hasek work their magic. Two legendary scramble style goaltenders.
Your hockey reactions are the best
absolutely loving thease. Greetings from Finland
Been a hockey goalie for 16 years (im 23) trust me theres no better feeling than robbing a game because you did an insane save!
You have track the puck all the time, never lose sight, always know where it's going ahaha
Hey Adam I'm a big nhl Fan nver watched your videos before but really enjoyed you checking this out.
I love your videos so much!!!! Keep making the great content!°
Hasek upending Gaborik at 8:29 made me so happy as a Wings fan! Yes, that was legal because he played the puck first.
Hey Adam buddy, I’m from small town in southern Ontario eh, just wanted to say I love your reaction videos hockey is huge in Canada and the way you react is halarious. Keep up the vids man and cheers from team canada
As a goalie from Canada these are the best of the best in saves. You should do a video watching goalie fights as they are very rare in the NHL.
Braden Holtby made one hell of a save in the Stanley Cup finals of 2018 and it was called 'The Save' but should have won some kind of award, then again winning the Stanley Cup is one a pretty good award.
there is cosom hockey too in montreal people play in the street during summer not has fast but still hockey.
I hope there is clip where Antti Niemi saves puck with bare hand without glove
Best catches in NFL history would be cool! Keep up the good work, love the vids👍🏼
I watched Holtby grow up in the WHL, playing for the Saskatoon Blades. He was a treat to watch.
