Agreed. He's an odd guy. I remember alot of my local Avs fans were confused when Roy declined to compete in the 2002 Olympics. His stated reason of "wanting to focus on the playoffs" doesn't come off as genuine, imo.
Now that I think about it, how many people on the Canadian 2002 roster had Roy gotten into a fight with in the past? Just a thought.

As a Colorado native and hockey fan, I can tell you, Patrick Roy was insane, a good kind of insane...but insane. He was/is the prototypical "quirky" goalie archetype.
I`ve never forgiven Mario Tremblay for making Patty leave Montréal. He was my idol growing up. He`s still my favorite player of all time.

8:27 onward is his son btw. It's a LHJMQ game (minor league from Québec) and his son who was also a goalie for the team Patrick Roy coached (can't remember if he coached him then or if he was a coach afterwards). We went to see the game with my elementary school and it was a slug fest from start to end with this old time rivalry that died out since between the 2 teams.

Hockey is probably the most frustrating sport of all sports. The banging of sticks and bodies in search for a small puck for 60 minutes will get your blood boiling if it's a serious game.
I don't know man I have seen a lot of people getting thier blood boiling during a soccer/football game..especially over a call by the ref. You have a lot more scoring opportunities than you do in soccer imo hockey's better to watch.

We are aloud to “push” a player that is in the crease (the blue paint) but the ref will let us punch there back as long as it’s not to obvious or overly aggressive

They tried to take the fights off tv a few years back but everyone was furious and they put them back on
How is this legal? Well, its not.
Yeah, most of these situations resulted in penalties or ejections from the game. Hockey does allow for fighting, but they actually have rules around when and how you can fight. It is supposed to be outside of play, both players need to have dropped their gloves (if one player starts it without the other it will likely be a minor penalty), and they are supposed to stop when if they knock the other player down. Allowing the players to fight it out between them is supposed to reduce the dangerous sneaky retaliations, and is entertaining. Most games will go without a fight, or have a one and done showdown over a hit or something they disagree with. Most common fights seem to be over crowding or pushing the goalies.

There's more concussions in the league now, when real enforcers are gone. You paid the price immediately if you took liberties with a star player.
@@11DNA11 there are more documented concussion cases, but this is largely thought to be due to the higher awareness to the point of having a healthcare provider watching every game for signs of concussions now.
@@JKHtheIII Yes. More concussions has nothing to do with enforcers being gone. Swedish league has never allowed fighting (automatic ejection if you drop your gloves even if you dont throw a punch) and they also have more concussions now. It's two main factors I think. 1: There are more documentation and awerness as you said, and 2: the game is much faster and the colissions are much harder. Even if you dont get hit in the head you can get a concussion of the sheer impact. When the game was slower I dont think this happened as much, however, all the headshots back in the day definetly contributed to a large number of concussions we never knew about. It's the same in the NFL. Less headshots, more concussions (because of faster play and more awerness of concussions).

Yea that's true in its own way, enforcers allows the non physical players to display their full potential but it doesn't really make them less great, you dont get to lead the all time scoring board with almost a thousand point unless you're friggin fantastic.
Gretzky at 2850 or so points followed by Jagr at 1920ish point.
But I agree, these type of guys rarely get the recognition they deserve.

As a goalie myself. I've done a few of these. Especially smacking them in the nuts when they wont move out of my crease. I'll always stand up for my teammates

Is this legal?” Is, most of the time it really isn’t legal. These gosling definitely got penalties for most of not all of these and for some the goalies got kicked out.
The McSorely attack on Brashear. Got charged with assault with a weapon for slashing Brashear's head.
Most of the time NHL hockey is fast-paced and hard-hitting. But as was said above, a lot of these clips, the goalies are justified in their anger. Some are dirty and playing the refs, much like in Euro football. But when you're facing pucks of frozen rubber flying at you at speeds of 90-100mph (60ish km/hr to non Imperialists), you tend to get pissy when some asshat with no front teeth runs into you intentionally just to rustle your jimmies.
As for skate blade injuries, they're fairly rare. I can only think of one serious injury in the 90's when a skate blade nicked the jugular of one goalie (name escapes me). Players on both teams saw it and immediately yelled at the refs to stop play. Officials and medical staff were incredibly quick to pinch it off and save his life. He's retired from the NHL and (if I remember correctly) is now a fireman in his hometown.

I can’t stop laughing at your reactions to NFL and NHL. These sports were a lot worse in the past cause of the shitty protection the players had. People go to NHL games to see fights. They even play music encouraging fights in the stadium.

There's an old joke (& I mean *old*, I first heard it 40+ years ago and it wasn't new then!) ... "There was a riot at the Sports Arena tonight, and then a hockey game broke out" 🤣
What you were watching was *not* legal, most of the people you saw had to leave the game. The refs weren't stepping in because:
1- all the players are bigger than the refs are, *and*
2- the refs don't have all the padding that the players have!
This doesn't even include the fact that a fair number of hockey players have reputations as "mean and hot-tempered, and having a *very* short fuse"! A lot of refs just figure they don't want to spend a week in the hospital!

Fighting has always been In hockey, that's why it's legal for NHLers. In fact, In the first hockey game, there was a fight.
Mr. Couser... i would like to challenge you to have a look at the Battle of Nations, a full contact armored fighting league where there are few rules beyond "fight to a knockdown".
It's not technically allowed some they either penalized or ejected but the refs sometimes just find it better to let them get it out of their system before jumping in. Because under that padding it's usually a really in shape guy. Your Alexa thing at the end activated my Amazon thing lol

as a goaltender a bunch of these are completely understandable, but i think one of the best recently was during last season Kasmir Kaskisuo was angry about a series of bad calls so he grabbed his water bottle off the net and sniped a ref at the blue line in the back of the head with it, i firmly believe that display of accuracy was fully worth a 2 game suspension
Fighting is legal in Canada, if two people agree to a fist fight without weapons and are not causing a disturbance. Not sure about about USA

When the game was in its early days, are used to have a bucket of water with a sponge in it. The bloodier the bucket at the end of the game the better the game. We have developed as a species since then

One of the BEST compilations of hockey goalies losing their cool and going ballistic. Loved it. I remember watching some of those very games going back to the 1980's. Great video. Keep up the great hockey videos. When I came to Canada in 1967 from Belfast, to Montreal, I fell in love with hockey. Great sport.
