My mother is a narcissist and my dad a sociopath. I became my mother's confidante at age 3. I heard of sex games, key parties etc.My mother thought it was great that I could solve all her problems since I was little. My dad was violent- he tried to control my mother and her self destruction with his fists, and I was in the middle physically during their fights. I had to replace my sense of self with my parents sense of self in order to survive. I balanced the emotional energies of my parents to protect my siblings, and hide them when my parents fought. My sister and I were repeatedly molested by a babysitter from age 5-8.
I learned I had BPD a year ago and it was a weight lifted off me. It made great sense. I am not ashamed at all. I was a little girl who was very brave and resourceful and although I lived another 55 years using my 3 yo childhood tools I am proud of me.
I find myself now at 60 struggling to figure what is me and what is others. My dysregulation is like being in a tornado of pain and fear . The terror I partitioned away from me so that I could survive comes swirling in and I come undone. Thank you for the support and kindness you give those of us w BPD. I am an eager psych patient as I want to learn all the tools that are available to me. I still haven't figured out what I want to be when I grow up, unfortunately every morning I awaken and realize that my life has no direction and the only thing I can do is to reassure myself and lean in Heaven to protect and guide me.
I often awake in panic wondering where everyone is and if they are safe, then I realize I'm all grown up and I missed out on being present in my life. God help me.
The worst part is what I neglected to do for my own children. God forgive me.

The shit he says around the 27 minute mark about doctors prescribing meds for personality issues getting the patient hopeful then the patient getting worse is something I've dealt with my whole life, and is such an accurate and insightful observation. I can't even begin to explain how much that validates my feelings on mental health treatment.

There are probably a lot more horrific therapists out there than actual great ones. I have personally gone through a couple of horrible ones, but my daughter has gone through too many to count. I could put all of the horrible ones in one group, they might listen but they don’t hear and their implicit bias is plugged in, and they have little curiosity or respect for their clients.

Think of it as teachers, most teachers wont leave much of a mark on you, some will be remembered for how bad they were, and if you are lucky, you will have met one who profoundly inspired you... same with therapists...

I know of a friend with BPD who is on antidepressants and in therapy. It fascinates me. By the way I was diagnosed on the schizoid spectrum. There is very little understanding of this. Im on the same antidepressants as she is. Primarily very good for anxiety.

I hate being borderline ans love it . Great with work but bad for romantic relationships . I work around ppl but not the same everyday. I am old now and have chilled some. I remember a roommate sold me a TV later moved out ..I was 19 at the time 42 now . But he took the TV when he left . I went to his parents house with a can of gasoline . Told them what there son did and told them pay me the money right now or I will burn down this house with you in it ..my friends when I was young always said bro you are gangster as ahit and liked how I handled things . Being in my 4os and with mental help I don't do the same but know I could take it there if I let go . The bad part is the pain I would feel after a moment . Of hurting a friend or loved one I would cry in my room for days after thank you for the video

Likeable as an infant, my god. Is this strange analysis of human behaviour? So an infant has to be likeable or they deserve to be damaged. How about care providers care for all their children based on individual needs. We are not all alike and every child has a different personality with different levels of needs. Does this man work with people or is his research all in data.

    • @joshualong4690

Depending on where you live I would suggest calling the closest university and asking if they have a developmental psychology department. They will be the people with the most current understanding of how your daughter is doing. I'm having a similar problem with my daughters mother only letting me see her to comply with the order I had to get the court to declare so she'd not call the police when I tried to see my daughter for the first 6 months.
So I missed more than half her life so far and am having to figure out why people keep treating me like I'm the problem when I'm the one trying to make sure the baby can crawl and gets to the Dr.
I say that to kind of help you know that people will understand you're trying to help your kid if you find the right ones. So to be clear, from my understanding, at 4 years you're still within the time period many would say that treatment is most helpful for ensuring they understand how emotions work and being able to trust people. That's from my speaking with the University staff I'm lucky to have access to and they charge me based on my income so I'm able to get her checked out and still eat myself. Good luck with your girl.

The infant may have a certain temperament but the contradictory response is related to the hostile caretaker response. This is lecture is total none sense. Where did you get the example of “you can do it” might be interpreted the sparing way by the “borderline offspring”. What does borderline offspring mean anyway?
